RFK's Halll Of Stars TO Be Removed
Today the Virginia Pilot was saying that the wall of stars is going to be remove from RFK. Its removal is to make room for advertisments to be displayed for the Nationals (I think a baseball team). One of the names mentioned to be removed was Sony Jurgensen and I would have to believe others to be included would be Theisman, Clark, Riggens, just to mention a few. Does anyone know if this Hall Of Stars was recontructed when the new Fedx feild was built and does any body remember this wall? Its a shame to hear this because it must include all of our bigtime players of past memories. Sorry I could not find a link to this story.

Who cares about the Nationals!
Who cares about the Nationals(Expos)?
Not I! The present home to the Redskins is Fedex Field. |
Re: RFK's Halll Of Stars TO Be Removed
It's actually called the Ring of Fame in RFK. And they have somewhat started it in FedEx Field.
I think they'll eventually probably add all those names you mentioned. |

Because it's baseball? That and the fact baseball has failed multiple times in DC, don't see anything different this time around!

Well I know we've had this same discussion before, but I'll just repost what I had a couple of months ago. DC today is not the same DC of 30 years ago. For one thing, it's more affluent. There are a lot more big businesses here which means more money and clients for luxury boxes, the most important aspect of any pro stadium. Public transportation wasn't the same 30 years ago either. Now with the Metro train system it's much easier to get around and especially around downtown DC and this has created a broader region because the suburbs (Northern Virginia, Montgomery Co.) can now be considered practically a part of DC itself. And as it was the population has grown significantly anyway. When the MCI Center was built in DC's Chinatown seven years ago that area was a total dump, but thanks to that stadium a lot of businesses set up shop there and completely revitalized the area and raised its property value. A baseball stadium could do the same for the Waterfront, which has the potential to be beautiful. Several companies have committed to building stores, offices, condos/apartments in that area over the next couple of years with the understanding that people will start coming there to attend baseball games and shop, eat, and even live there. As it is now, anyone who goes there is really just going to one of the clubs there late at night and that's it. |

Re: RFK's Halll Of Stars TO Be Removed
I bet in there first 8 home games they will win more than the skins did at there house. All they need is 3.

Re: RFK's Halll Of Stars TO Be Removed
I bet they have more robberies outside than they have wins.

Shoot, why wouldn't I be?[/QUOTE] Redskins P! That's OK! You live in D.C! I live in Norfolk! But I never suspected for one minute the Expos would come here to Norfolk anyway! My favorite BB Team is the Braves, as in "The Land of the Free, and the home of the Braves!" And by the way, is the team you guys will be looking up at in the standings all year long! And most Warpathers probably already have a favorite BB team. I can see the Braves at least 1-2 nights per week for free, even when traveling because of WTBS being nearly worldwide. Ted, the owner, has his own series of networks! I fall asleep way too easily in front of the screen, however, and then I go to bed! BB is way, way too boring. But Nationals fans deserve their own talk forum! Just not in here! The Nats don't even have an owner! MLB still owns them! BB discussions also do not belong in TheWarpath.net, imho, nor should they have a dedicated thread! |

And don't count on you guys being at the top of the standings. The Mets are going to be way better than you guys. Yes, most Warpathers do have a favorite BB team. But don't forget that most warpathers are in the DC area, and for the people who live here, they can appreciate that we have a team of our own. My favorite team is the NY Yankees, but now I have a team in the National league too! Also, we have an "off-topic" (you know, like not football or redskins?) forum and everyone here is open to discussing anything they want on it. It can be Baseball, Basketball, Hockey....whatever. |
Re: RFK's Halll Of Stars TO Be Removed
I believe the Redskins Ring of Fame was moved to FedEx Field when it first opened (actually JKC Stadium at the time)....they were probably actually new signs (or whatever you would call them) made, but you get the picture. If that is the case, it would made sense that the old ones may still be at RFK, but it's not like it matters since the Redskins don't play there anymore.
As for baseball in DC, I'm thrilled about it! Living in between DC and Baltimore, I always rooted for the Orioles, but never really considered myself an O's fan. Then over the past couple years the obnoxious Raven fans have really turned me off to Baltimore in general, so I will be very happy to support the Nat's. Not to mention Angelos is an asshole... |
Re: RFK's Halll Of Stars TO Be Removed
Redskins P: It meant the new stadium area is a dump and crime is out the roof. Regardless of what TAFKAS (still weird calling him that) says I doubt it will be cleaned up that quickly.

If that is the case bring it over to FedEx

Actually DC would not allow this since they got left a the altar by the Squire. But at least he pinched the mayors ass before he left. The ring of fame at RFK is different then the ring of fame at FEDEX. Many great past washington names are missing. FEDEX only has football related ones. No basketball (Wesley Unsled, Abe Pollin) , baseball (Frank Howard, Ted Williams) boxing (Sugar Ray Lenorad) or hockey(Did we have any on the Ring of Fame?) Would love to purchase a sign or two if Mr. Cope from the NAtionals makes them available. |
Re: RFK's Halll Of Stars TO Be Removed
They probably had to remove the Hall of Stars because they were probably remodeling to add a Steroid Pharmacy..........
Baseball is a cure for insomnia........ Have any of you actually stayed awake for an ENTIRE baseball game.....too boring! |

Oh Ok. I really didn't understand what you were saying. No doubt the area isn't the prettiest in the city, but you would have to think that there will be plenty of police and security around there. Then again, its DC police and that's not saying much. |

I understand that other sport figures would not be moved to FedEx, only Redskins ones......but how come "indoor" stars were on there? Don't they have something for them at the MCI Center? (moved from the Capital Centre of course) |
Re: RFK's Halll Of Stars TO Be Removed
Actually this is how we honored all of our stars in the area. How would and could we honor the great Sugar Ray? I believe there was even Elvin Hayes up.
