Philip Daniels Article

I hope you werent hoping to get Courtney Brown in the DE rotation. It is ominous when the official Redskins website comes out with a story about our starting de who was banged up last year.

It sounds like we are supposed to think that Daniels can do the job, because the Redskins feel that they arent going to secure Brown. What do you think?

either that...or maybe daniels knows there will be some competition with brown so daniels has to step it up this year.

Who wants an overpaid perennial underachiever anyway? That is Dan and Vinny style of thinking which is why we now don't have the salary cap room to sign players that we drafted who actually perform (i.e. Smoot and Pierce)

regardless of getting or not getting brown, it will be nice to get daniels back.

Daniels played real nice when he was heathy. Hopefully we get Brown and they can rotate and both stay healthy!!!!

Re: Philip Daniels Article

I certainly don't want Brown as a full-time starter. Look at his track record in Cleveland! Backup at best!

Re: Philip Daniels Article

Brown was a beast before his injuries, but injured veteran top dollar players = less money for your younger hungrier talented players, so you cant spend too much money on a guy like that. Some of his former coaches are in Jacksonville and they have something like 13M in cap space and need a pass rush specialist.

Daniels is a better-than avg. end, but i think our money lies in Ron Warner. He caught my eye in the preseason and i tried to pay close attention to him and every time he was in a position to make a play it seemed he did. I understand that he was not lining up against the left tackle, but it just seemed that he had his head in the game and made plays when he was in. Am i the only person on the Ron Warner band wagon?

I'm glad someone mentioned that. I was very suprised/impressed by Ron Warner last season. Now, I dont think he is a top of the line defensive end in this league; but I think he is an exellent role player who does his job. He reminds me of Renaldo Wynn. A guy who isnt incredicble or blow your socks off; but a guy who does his job and comes up with a couple big plays. I dont think he is the awnser to our pass rushing end problems, but I defintley am glad to have him on board.

Daseal 03-21-2005 07:51 PM

Re: Philip Daniels Article

Ron Warner is solid, and as long as he comes cheap should stay on our team as long as we can keep him. I'd like to see Brown join, but I don't want to rest our hopes at defensive end on him. I think Daniels, who doesn't have the injury history Brown has, can fill that role well enough for a few years.

I agree. I bet that Brown would want to go somewhere that he would start, even though he has a past history with a lot of Redskins.

I started this thread because i thought the timing with the Brown visit was suspicious. Does anyone atleast admit that?

Hmm... I dunno. I don't think that redskins.com gets "leaks" so that the fans can read more into things. I would think that they would just put up a story saying, "With no word on Brown, Skins look forward to Daniels return"

Re: Philip Daniels Article

Brown is apparently not pleased with the incentive filled contract offers he's getting, so if someone is dumb enough to give him a decent deal watch him sign real quick. I read he was visiting with the Jags.

EternalEnigma21 03-21-2005 11:14 PM

Re: Philip Daniels Article

Well the jags have been chasing a pass rush specialist for a few years now, hoping to get one when they signed hugh douglas a couple of years ago (who was released by them) and they have like 13mil in cap room, so I would see them taking a chance on him with at least a decent short term deal. Plus two of his former coaches have moved to Jax.

I say pull the offer. We now know what kind of guy he is and what modivates him.

I did pr work for a team before, it probrally some interns article on a player to keep the website fresh, it usually not that calculated.

As for brown it would be smarter to sign with us beacuse I don't think the other teams could possibly rejuvenate his career like us

The Jags defense and Denvers defense were both pretty nasty last year, plus their offenses produced.

Granted Daniels has been a bit of an underachiever, but he can get it done. Hopefully now he will be 100% healthy and self-motivated for what ever reason.

Yeah, Start, and make the Cash that only the Jags and Seahawks can afford!

It looks like we got our guy last year, and he had an off year with injuries, according to the previously posted Redskins.com article.

You know, you sound more and more like Curmudgeon each passing day.

You're far too young to be so cynical. Have some optimism. Drink a beer (or three), see the Skin's through rose colored glasses.

Jeeeez, think some good thoughts for a change!! :laughing2

Yeah, he said on Friday that he was going to cancel his trips to the Jags and Seattle and pick between the Skins and Denver over the weekend.

He has now gone to the Jags and is meeting with Seattle today. Guess he didn't get any offers he couldn't refuse.

actually he had meetings with tampa and seattle, but tampa only has like 1mill under the cap right now... he's obviously looking for the highest bidder.

JoeRedskin: I think it's silly for us to think that every FA wants to come to Washington. We're perenial losers, and though everyone here thinks Joe Gibbs is the best coach in the NFL, not many other people agree. What C. Brown saw was a great defense that couldn't get any wins because the offense was so bad they couldn't even get two TDs a game! Meanwhile, Denver, Seattle, and the Jags made or came close to the playoffs and all three have very talented defenses along with good offensive production. Plus, he's more likely to get those icnentives if he's a starter, which no one has given him here.

I love the skins, but I can't fool myself and think that we're the Patriots.

Re: Philip Daniels Article

Money talks, simple as that. It doesn't matter if you're the Cardinals or the Patriots, if a team is dishing out the dough, players will listen.

If we offered Brown a deal that he wanted, he would have signed the day he was here. He's looking for the best deal right now, things like playing time, coaches, teammates, etc., are all secondary.

Daseal 03-22-2005 12:18 PM

Re: Philip Daniels Article

those secondary values can make you more money, so they are certainly factored in!

Did Daseal just say he loves the skins? OMG. That's got to be a first.

So Daseal, how do you know what C.Brown saw? Did you speak to him personally?

Stop fooling myself? Ok Daseal, you're right.

Redskins suck.

Joe Gibbs sucks.

Bring back Spurrier.

Happy now?
