if trotter leaves.......
if trorrter does leave us in a trade we would most likely get a 2nd or 3rd round pick so does anyone think we could get a top linebacker.... maybe dansby or thomas from auburn and if they are gone maybe taking a d-lineman and getting a steal at middle linebacker in the 5th round.....rod davis from southern mississippi? Hopefully he won't leave and we won't take the cap hit, he was still overcoming an injury last year and deserves a chance to show he is still a monster.....and barrow is still a free agent hmmmm
p.s. TAYLOR at the 5th overall.....anyone with doubts read the chat from espn :party-smi |
I think Trotter's worth a 2nd or 3rd rounder ... but unfortunately there probably isn't a GM in the NFL that agrees with me. I don't see us getting much if anything for Trotter ... maybe a 5th rounder. Remember that the original asking price for Terrell Owens was a 2nd rounder and he's one of the top WRs in the NFL. Trotter doesn't have the same credentials and teams just aren't trading away their picks like they used to (except for the Skins).
|
I say we'd be lucky to get a third rounder, a 4th or 5th is probably more realistic.
A high priced MLB coming off two mediocre seasons isn't exactly going to burn up the trade wire. |
We won't get anything for Trotter. He will be cut after June 1st. His knees are as bad as another bust Dave Fiore. Another reason no team will trade for him is his high salary. Whatever team trades for him will have to absorb the $3M this year and $5M next year. Maybe if we can find a crack smoking GM. Ditka unfortunately is gone.
|
I agree, Defense. No way anyone trades for him. We're clearly going to cut him anyway. Why would anyone give a draftpick?
|
I agree, Defense. No way anyone trades for him. We're clearly going to cut him anyway. Why would anyone give a draftpick?
pretty much the same reason why several teams were willing to give up a pick to trade for Brunnel, to avoid the uncertainty of a bidding war. Doesn't anyone else think that if he is traded, his contract will be reworked? every trade made this season, from my knowledge has resulted in a reworked contract. Trotter is still pretty young and could be an impact player if, unlike the past two years, he is used properly. And it's not like he's a problem in the lockerroom or a big ego, which was another reason TO's trade value was lower than it normally would have been for a top teir WR(also the fact that the 49ers were just trying to get what they could for a player they didn't want.) so the comparisions in trade value aren't nearly the same but the highest I see us probably getting is a 3rd rounder or a 4th & 5th. I honestly don't agree that Mitchell is on the same level of talent as Trotter and this is going to wind up being a huge cap hit in dead money for us to be saving what, 1.5 million in cap space? I mean I haven't even heard about them trying to restructure his contract before it came to this, did anyone else? |
Every team has dead money these days ... a fact of life in the NFL, something each team has to manage. Trotter will cost $4.6 million against the 2005 cap if he's cut after June 1. That's significant but not a backbreaker if the cap is managed properly. People worry about the cap too much around here ... Gibbs is committed to keeping a core group of Redskins players and I'm sure that's exactly what he'll do. The Jeremiah Trotters will come and go ... it's too bad these deals don't always work out, but when they don't, you release the guy, sign a cheaper player, take the hit and move on. It all comes off the books the following year and it's forgotten.
|
The trade could go through if he renegotiates with the new team.
|
But why would he do that? If he waits till June then he gets to chose where he lives and cash in for 4.5 Mill next season from us. Any trade talk is wishfull thinking.
|
Trotter has been pinned with having medicore seasons yet lead the team in tackles over the last two years. He doesnt have the sack numbers because he hasnt been used in the way he got his nick name "the train." He is overpaid but there should be interest in him. If the Skins could get a pick for him and then pick up Warrick Holdman they would have a fast and top rate LB core.
|
Jeremiah Trotter is vastly overpaid for his ability. But the Skins had - and still have - room for him under their cap. However, he was asked not to attend minicamp and given permission to seek a trade.
Does anyone have even a teeny-tiny feeling that the Redskins just don't want him around anymore? Why "disinvite" him to the minicamp? If you recall the events that led to him leaving Philly and coming to Washington, Trotter was their franchise player who kept saying that the team did not respect him and that he was angry with the coach. Then he "wondered aloud" something to the effect that perhaps other players were bad-mouthing him to the coaching staff privately and that was hindering the negotiations. About 48 hours later, he was no longer the franchise player and was told that the team would not negotiate with him any further. [Translation: Don't let the door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya!] Danny Boy signed him in a flash. I wonder - and it is ONLY wondering - if Trotter has worn out his welcome here for reasons that include his burdensome contract AND some other more "personal issues"? Let's see what kind of offers his agent can scare up in a trade scenario and see what kind of contract he can command... |
I believe there may be a chance trotter may stay on the team maybe they want to see what they can get for him before draft day if no team bites on him maybe the skins would renegotiate his contract and keep him for a while. but that definately won't happen if we want you his money on holdman which i hope we are trying to do and not trying to go after one of those shitty Giants LBs
|
Gibbs and staff have seen game film and do not feel his level of play justifies his large salary. He had many blown assignments last year that lead to big plays fot the other team. It was mentioned in one Washington Newspaper that one blown assignment late in a game cost the Redskins a game.
He was a another terrible aquistion by Snyder. We overpaid for him and now we will have something like $3.5M-$4M in dead cap money tied up next year because of Trotter. |

Not because of his talent or physical gifts. All he had to do is stand there and RBs were going to run into him. He's way overpaid. I love the Holdman idea.

MLB's typically lead the team in tackles, it's sort of a misleading stat for the position.
Perhaps Trotter has worn out his welcome as Sports said. Arrington sure didn't sound to broken up by the thought of him leaving, he basically said that Mitchell should have been starting all along. |

It's one thing for the coach to say the player is allowed to seek a trade but its quite another when a teammate says the player shouldn't have even been in the starting lineup. |
i stated in my post how bout a trade trotter for gilden just a thought
|
diehardskin2982:
Gildon was a major disappointment last year - and to some extent for the last year and a half in Pitts. Gibbs likes vets - but not ones that seem to be on the downside of their career. Trotter is not the kind of player that Cowher tends to want at LB. Steelers' LBs have to be able to cover receivers and that is what Trotter has never been able to do well. I see this as a very unlikely trade. |
I'm confused, MattyK72.
I put up a post about a month or so ago asking if people thought as I did, that Trotter was going to be gone soon since we were looking at so many linebackers. Your answer to why we were doing that was "quite simply, depth." I knew that was not the case and was surprised by your curt, short, smart ass answer. I also thought that was one of the stupidest answers I had ever heard. Now you seem to be down on Trotter, calling him a high priced LB coming off two mediocre seasons... What gives? You seem to change positions on things more than your underwear, and you come off as some authority who knows everything just because you are one of the moderators of this site. Well, allow me to say- I TOLD YOU SO! |
them there sound's like fight'in word's to me. :smashfrea
|
Trotter lead the team in tackles for the same reason Iffy was second... The D-line sucked and he would tackle them, or they would out run him and Iffy would get the tackle. Getting Warrick from the bears would be a huge upgrade and we would have a young and fast linebacker core that will make Williams lick his chops and send blitzs left and right the way teams did to us. If we added Taylor in teh draft our D will have fun messing up QBs rythem

don't know much about warrick, what are his credential's? |
A lot of peopel beleive that Urlacher is only as good as he is because he plays next to him... Now I dont knwo how much I beleive that becuase ive seen plenty of highlight reals from Urlacher and hes definitly a gifted player. But ive read a lot about peopel in Chicago wishing Warrick had the big contract. If hes one of those players that makes things happen that show up on other peoples stats then Lavar would have a field day playing with him as well.

Raleigh:
If you had been on this board for any amount of time, you'd realize that we all can be called for similar inconsistencies. People's opinions do change. It's a fact of the world. I don't take offense to you pointing out what you did, but I do take offense to your public censure of matty. Funny how the offseason makes people testy. |
Everyones opinion changes, just think, there was a time when Spurrier was new and exciting news that was going to build our franchise into a dynasty... lol

It could still happen! Lol. I have a mini helmet autographed by SS, its basically worthless, AND its to small to wear! Hmmm, I wonder if my dog would mind... |
Ive got a Heath Shuler jersey...
|
Besides most people here were basing trotter's lack of peformance on the fact that we had no coordinater, trotter can still be an all pro but he has to be put into an attack style schme were he is alway's shooting a gap and blowing up a backfield, william's although a very attack style coordinater need's to have LB's who can jump out and pick up a reciever while a corner or saftey blitzes, and trotter can't do that, as well he has no instinct as a conventional LB, just because he's out of here is not neccesarily an indictment that he can't play, but a lot of thing's where said not knowing who would be our coordinater, and how he will approach a defensive scheme.

I have a Gus Frerotte cardboard cutout... (but it was free) |
I wonder if at a Planet Hollywood they have the pad that Ferrotte knocked himself out on...

As far as being a stupid answer why is depth such a stupid answer? When Trotter leaves and we sign someone like Holdman for example, we'll still have nice depth at LB so I really don't understand where you're going with trying to shoot down my reasoning of depth. As for being down on Trotter now, I have never been that high on him to begin with. I have always said the last two seasons he was disappointing and didn't live up to his big contract. And what I really don't understand nor appreciate is you calling me out saying that I come off as some know it all just because I'm a moderator on this site. Actually I am a bit more than just the moderator. Lord only knows the countless hours and $$ out of my own pocket I've dumped into this site over the last few years. But I wouldn't expect you to know that so I won't hold that comment against you. To each his own I guess, if I offended you I apologize. And if it makes you happy then fine, you're right and I'm wrong. You called Trotter getting the boot and I didn't. Sorry but my crystal ball was a little cloudy that day. |
I dont know you Matty but its been a pleasure reading and posting the last two days. For whatever youve done to this site I appreciate it and am glad to have found it. If you need any help I have a lot of computer knowledge and may be able to help you. Dont hesitate to ask.

"Quite Simply, Depth" is not a smart ass answer by any means. Furthermore, as Matty said he's more than just a moderator on the site. I'm just a moderator but to say that I'm any more important to this site than the Cpayne's, Daseal's, etc. of this site is missing the bigger picture. What Matty has done, through his time and money, is provide a forum for intelligent debate about our beloved Redskins. To dismiss Matty as some power hungry ignoramus is essentially biting the hand that feeds you here.
But everyone's contribution is what really makes it work. Take SkinsnCanes for example, just two days he's been on the warpath and already his are posts I always look forward to reading. Anyone incapable of accepting other's opinions, even when it doesn't agree with their own or who feels the need to spit out "I Told You So's" apparently doesn't understand the true purpose of the warpath. Sometimes you'll be right, sometimes you'll be wrong. And opinions do change. I'd like to think that I've helped shape some other fans' opinions through some of my posts, as I know other people have helped shape mine |
Great replies, matty & smootsmack. A good show of professionalism in the face of idiocy is quite a feat.

here here :food-smil I know I share the same feelings as the others on this site in that it was so awesome to find a site of fellow skins fans to talk to about our team. I must echo the praises for the hard work(and money) you, Mattyk72, and everyone else who puts forth the effort into providing this site for us. While we may all have slighty different or even opposing views on some topics discussed, I think pretty much every member appreciates this site and those who have made it possible. Thank you for your hard work and :httr: . |
The great thing about this site is the difference of opinion. I'm probably the only person within a 100 mile radius of DC that would still like to see Spurrier involved in the Redskin's orginization. I like Gibbs, but I really think Spurrier has potential. Now, on most forums people would be closed minded and blast me from here to the moon, but not on this forum! People will take little shots, which is more than fine because I put my share in and it's all in fun.
I've learned so much in the few months I've been on this site it's amazing. Everything from the mods such as Matty, JoeCrisp, and SmootSmack with their great analysis of moves and strategy that I was previously unaware of, to the number crunching that CrazyCanuck does. I'm also put into awe everytime I see how well Sports, Offiss, and most every other poster puts into their replys. I for one am glad there is a messageboard on the internet with an intelligent user-base that can answer nearly any Redskin question you have within 20 minutes. Everyone is friendly and more than willing to give you a hand. On one hand I want this board to get the recognition it deserves, on the other I want it to stay just like it is so it isn't littered with people wasting space with profanity about the Cowboys. As much as I hate the Cowboys, it simply isn't productive. Matty and the rest of the admin's here at the Warpath have really put a lot of time and effort into this site. They have my thanks, and I'm sure most everyone here will agree with me on this. Raleigh, I hope you think about this and issue Matty the apology he deserves. He's entitled to any decesion change he wants, we've all made them especially during the typical Redskin's offseason. Trotter is a great linebacker, if used correctly, which he hasn't been. I think Williams understands this and wasn't planning on using him how he's always played. PS - SPURRIER RULES :laughing- |
I actually wouldn't be too against the notion of spurrier remaining on the redskins staff myself, Daseal. maybe as an offensive coordinater or something to that extent.
|
Daseal, I think you and I are a perfect example of two people that can have totally differing opinions yet we can always keep our discussions civil. LOL
Seems like we're always battling about Spurrier, but I do understand and respect your opinions as I'm sure you do mine. Truth is we're all going to have differing opinions from time to time, after all that's what discussions are for and why we're here, how boring would it be if we all agreed? Discussions may get heated once in a while and that's to be expected, but it's never personal, and I think most of us are mature enough to realize that. |
Right on, Matty!
|
Spurrier might make an OK cordinator somewhere, he'll go down as a great college coach. but to say he did anythign right when it came to running an organization is a huge understatement. I always got frusterated when someone would do something wrong and his responce would be to say that were all professionals and knwo what we did wrong and will work to correct it without him doing anything.
As a side note, I was very excited to read that Gibbs brough officials to the first minicamp practice. Although I dont want our players to be hurt it was a great opportunity for our backup online to learn to work together. I read they had a lot of false starts but its only march and theres plenty of time to start correcting the problem. As opposed to waiting until November... |
