Year in Review 2013

Thoughts on overall 2013 Season for Washington Redskins. Anything to individual players, overall talent, team performance, coaching, management or anything that had to do with the season as a whole.

Record: 3-13

Point Differential: -144

Ended Season on 8 game losing streak.

LT Trent Williams named to Pro Bowl

WR Pierre Garcon broke franchise record for receptions.

Here's my year end review (also apologies for starting this thread on a negative note):

Just so I'm not totally negative, congrats to Pierre "not a true #1" Garcon on setting the franchise record for receptions in a season, and for also becoming the second player in NFL history to catch at least 5 passes in every game in a season, but at the same time I'd trade that record in a heartbeat for a better season. Nobody's going to remember it over the 3-13 record or the 8 game losing streak to end the year.

Re: Year in Review 2013

I really like what I saw from Amerson this year, think we found a solid starter in the secondary.

My biggest disappointments was

1) Ive never witnessed Special team so bad, coverage wise a debacle. Never found a KR/PR
2) Oline took a major step back
3) Never could establish a #2 WR
4) RG3 injury, he wasnt ready to start the season, should have sat til the bye.
5) Kerrigen didnt take that next step I expected with Rak on the other side

I expected the secondary to struggle, It did. I expected London to regress, he did. So my expectations were met, cant really be disappointed in those 2 cases.

Griff was the MVP last yr because he obviously carried the team

On hindsight predictable regression in the face of predictably retarded expectations after a overachieving fluke playoff run.

Ill say this, yes really bad year, but I still have hope with some young talent in key area on the team, clear cap space, and the organization is not really in any horrible contracts.

I have hope now. After the last Zorn year, I had no hope. The position of the organization was much worse.

Re: Year in Review 2013

Sadly, for me it was more of the same we've seen even since Gibbs came back.

1) Boring games due to getting stopped a ton on third down and constantly giving up third down (we HAD to have the best 1st and 2nd down defense in the league)

2) Making someone famous. Who was that Giant's WR again today?

3) Breaking streaks for the worse (with the exception of Garcon's which was awesome). If anyone hadn't caught a touchdown, hadn't done ________, we were the sure-fire cure.

I REALLY, REALLY don't want to think that last year was a fluke, and I don't believe it is, but damn, this was the worst team I think I've seen us field in my years as a Skins fan. Worst part is: it was essentially the same team that won the NFCE last year.

The silver lining is that we'll have plenty of money to spend, HOPEFULLY a new legit staff, and RG3 healthy during the offseason. I think the defense can at least be respectable by extending Orakpo and by picking up a few pieces in FA and the draft. I do still maintain we have some great building blocks, but we need a few more pieces and someone to not force those square pegs into round holes.

CRedskinsRule 12-29-2013 06:20 PM

Re: Year in Review 2013

Terrible season, and good riddance to all the staff. Special Teams deserves to be thrown under the short bus many times over. Can't believe how many pathetic punt plays, and returns we witnessed. Forbaith did seem to recover, but we really just need to bite the bullet and go with two kickers if he is our FG kicker.

Defense, as has been the story forever, even when we had "top ranked" defenses, can't hold leads, and as the year went on they made fewer big plays, maybe because the offense couldn't capitalize very often.

Offense, again, more of the same. They would show something, but I don't think this team ever put 1 whole game together, this entire season. Which brings us back to...

Goodbye coaching staff. Go your merry ways, and please don't look back.

Meks 12-29-2013 06:30 PM

Re: Year in Review 2013

Rebuild the coaching staff. Switch back to the 4-3 defense. Draft o linemen. Re-sign D Hall. Have a full off season with your #1 qb.

Re: Year in Review 2013

I hate it, but I've already came to terms with that. Give the coach one more year like he asked for, but as far as the other coaches, someone has to be held accountable. I want to see what this team looks like after the cap numbers are back, and RG has a complete offseason. We need talent at all positions, because we have depth. We have started our "depth" all year long.

Arguably the worst coaching staff pro footballs seen in decades. None of these guys deserve a dime for the season and obviously don't deserve the remainder of their contract, but this is a situation where you pay them to just go away.

When you look at the other teams at the bottom of the nfl, there's no talent on the roster. We've got talent and yet vied for the worst team in pro football. I don't think any of these guys deserve to work in pro football. But they will, and that's just sad.

I think the Texans have plenty of talent they just need a coach and a QB.

I wasn't thinking the Texans, but you're right the record is terrible. Was thinking of Jax and Cleveland. Texans are more limited offensive talent than most think. Just as Atlanta is more limited on defense than most think.

When you consider we've got talent at QB, elite talent at RB, studs at TE, LT, FB and pass rushers on defense with a very stout defensive line, it settles in these guys have been coached down as far as possible.

You can't be serious, this team lacks talent at three crucial units, wr, db, and st.

We have talent at QB that played poorly. The TE could not stay on the field so a big slow lumberjack filled in. The pass rushers are completely overrated. FB has little impact on the game. D-line is solid against the run but can't cave in the pocket. Are you watching the same team I am?

Just an interesting fact for those that do not know...
Washington is the only team in the NFL that did not win a divisional game.

Dallas as of right now is undefeated in division play.

Also I think the most attractive head coaching vacancy is the Houston texans. I think the skins however, are right behind. Cleveland browns are next in my opinion just because of their roster.

I disagree.
Both were in their first years trying to figure out what they had, This is a fourth year team that is coming off a playoff appearance with virtually the same players.

Pretty much the Hogs and the Posse retired before Petibon took over and Norv had to rebuild from scratch.

We had virtually the same team as last year and they tanked. Either a healthy RG3 carried that team on his back and couldnt do it this year or the coaching staff phoned it in.

Well Ritchie's first game was a dominant win over the SB champion Cowboys. And then it was all downhill after that.

I am thankful that this horrid, putrid (like the entrails of a dead animal), pile of stinking manure, overturned porta-potty, dumpster fire of a season is over. Hopefully tomorrow AM we get reports of Shanarats firing, it will be the only worthwhile thing, since this mess is clearly on him after four years, and full control of football operations.

Horrible turnover differential and maybe the worst overall special teams ever. Literally every aspect of special teams was bad.

Props to Morris for getting as much yards while the team was normally down early.

Hate to see a Monk record get broken but Garcon was ballin this year.

I guess as a Giant's fan you'd love for Shannahan to stick around and further screw up this franchise. I remember fondly the glory days of Gibbs vs. Parcells in the 80's some of the best football I ever watched. Today was pure garbage and an insult to that previously great history. Honestly, if the Redskins don't find/name a GM and Danny boy is running the show, I'll be done. Danny boys is close enough in age to me that I won't out live him, the Cowboy fans will eventually get a reprieve once Jerrah passes on.
