who we gonna get?
Who we gonna draft? i see that we have a lot of opinions in a lot of places and i would just like a centered place of thought.
|
Re: who we gonna get?
I think we should draft a CB. Williams or Edwards probly wont be available and eventhough CBs might not usually perform great in their rookie seasons, in 2 yrs or so we should have a very solid backfield. A guy like Pacman will definitely eat up any receivers thrown at him in the future and with springs aging a bit, a CB would be a good way to go. LB Derrick Johnson is also a great option but he might not be around by the time we get to pick. If these two are not there for us, trading down would be our best option since we could pick up two solid guys such as Williamson, Matt Jones, or even TE Heath Miller.

Re: who we gonna get?
We are going to draft a defensive end. you heard it here first and I am rarely wrong. Once I win Matty will crown me...remember you took that bet.
|
Re: who we gonna get?
Given our cap situation this year the logical call would be to start dealing down, I am very happy not to know what direction we are going, I said it many times allowing teams to get a read on who and what your drafting makes you very weak as far as picking up draft picks. Teams are more likly to stay put if they figure your drafting a certain player or position, if they don't know you have a chance of grabbing more draft picks and still getting your man. hopefully they can continue to keep their big mouths shut.
With that said I don't know who they will pick but my draft strategy would be to deal down to the middle of the 1st obtaining an early second and draft the best CB available, then in the second I would draft V. Jackson then I would go after a center/guard to backup and groom as a future starter. I really do enjoy the draft! :headbange |

Re: who we gonna get?
I am not sure what the Redskins will do in the draft, I would like to see us trade down pick up a second round pick, take the best CB or DE with our pick and pick up V. Jackson also. I agree with offiss, V. Jackson looks really good, he has alot of upside, I believe that he will be a very good NFL WR.

Re: who we gonna get?
Think they'lltake Williams at nine, but if he's gone, they'll deal down maybe using Gardner as part of the trade.

Why? You dont' end up paying too much for your rookies the first year. A #9 pick will hardly be a burden on our cap. There are other more appropriate reasons to trade down though. Especially if an impact player isn't available at #9. |

true none of us know what is gonna happen but it is fun to speculate. i just thought that i would see they said about vincent on ESPN INSIDER- (6'4", 241, 4.51) 39 inch leap They said that he is from a small school and has GREAT top end speed and exeptional size. He has been productive, and can jump and has long arms to snag the ball, he is stronger than most DBs and will outmuscle them.Reliable hands and does a good job catching the ball even if it is not thrown very well, gives effort at blocker but has the size and strength to be dominant if his skill is taken advantage of. Very bad acceleration, no burst or sharp cuts, he isn't good at running routes, he slows down when he puts the moves on and needs to keep his speed better (CP will teach him that!), Good PR in college but not good enough for nfl w/o elusiveness (SM aka small man will teach him that) "He had 66 receptions for 1,462 yards and 21 touchdowns as a junior in 2003 and 80 receptions for 1,382 yards and 11 TD's as a senior in 2004" 17.3yards/avg and 22.2y/avg in 2003 NOT BAD!! Overall rank 71points and position rank of 15 the rank edwards first then, mike williams, williamson, clayton, then roddy white at 5th, reggie brown, parrish, chris henry, jerome mathis(fast mo fo),fred gibson, terrance murphey, matt jones, and courtney roby, and then mark bradley then our main man VJ which may mean he could be around a while possible 3rd rounder, over looked? |
Re: who we gonna get?
Does anyone line Williamson besides me for the 9th pick?
From ESPN: Williamson has rare athletic ability, adequate-to-good height, excellent speed and loads of playmaking potential. He's an absolute threat as a vertical route runner and he shows the upside to develop into a premier No. 1 wide receiver in the NFL. |

"Must learn to gamble less while still remaining aggressive. Mental capacity a concern; scored a 13 on Wonderlic Test." i hope he isn't retarded

Take the guy early if we really like his ability also hope that SF isn't trading with SD |

I guess we are all geniouses, well heres the test! http://espn.go.com/page2/s/closer/020228test.html i scored 15/15 ( i went over by 10 seconds) while Pac Man uptop scored 13/50? makes you wonder--?? but i prolly run like a 6.9 so it evens out yet i'll be poor when i grow up! and he'll be pushin millions Here i think u can scedule a real test http://www.wonderlic.com/ and here is the explaination of the test http://www.tblog.com/templates/index.php?bid=dmyers&static=158872 |
Re: who we gonna get?
I think if we can't get Mike Williams at 9, we make a big push to move down in the draft and try to get the flavor of the month Matt Jones. 9th pick is sticky territory because any player there is a gamble. Why would the skins let go of solid ass player like smoot to just replace him with a college prospect that wasn't a sure 100% thing.
I know people are making a big deal about Matt Jones switching positions but an NFL team has a guy on their roster who never played college football and hadn't played any football since highschool....does ANTONIO GATES ring a bell! |
Re: who we gonna get?
Maybe Pac-Man isn't eating enough strawberries, pretzels and bananas to get his score high enough? ;)

Re: who we gonna get?
Are we going to keep creating new threads with the same question over & over...? This is starting to get ridiculous now!
Please everybody, look at the threads & read & chime into the those prev threads with your comments, yes I look through prev threads to see if anyone has added a comment, you don't have to create a new thread just to be heard. Thanks for listening to my bitching!!! |
Re: who we gonna get?
It's OK. Just watch Pacman and all will be well...

Re: who we gonna get?
There are still a lot of ways to go in this years draft. As far as our first pick I like three scenarios:
BMW at the #9 pick. I think he has big questions marks as a receivers. His weight has always been a problem. Hopefully a strong coach like Gibbs can keep his ass in check. His redzone ability is something our offense desperatly needs. If he's gone - we're going DB. I rank them Pac-Man - Rogers - Rolle. I don't feel comfortable with Rolle like everyone else. I think Pac-Man and Rogers give us our best chance for success. If Pac-Man is available, see if the phone rings. If it does try to do a deal down that leaves you in a positiion to get Rogers (about 1/2 way down should be good) you can probably pick up a 3rd or 4th for that, then package that with Gardner and move up to the 2nd if someone we like drops. Third - trade away our first pick all together. Trade it for a 1st next year, and whatever they'll give us this year (normally a 2nd or 3rd if I remember correctly.) This draft just doesn't really excite me. Nothing wrong with stockpiling picks! |

No joke Matty, but I've been less interested in viewing this site because it's the same threads over & over. Maybe you or someone can make 1 thread a sticky & leave it at the top so everyone can chime in & not keep creating new threads just cuz they want to be heard. I could easily post a weekly thread that would be about other important Skins issues besides who we draft'n? |
Re: who we gonna get?
I agree a sticky for this topic would be good...It gets tiresome reading the same thing over and over again...and there seem to be some people on this board who respond to themselves more than anyone else does just to be heard or to keep a thread going for no reason.

Re: who we gonna get?
WOW...that sample wonderlic test was extremely easy.

Re: who we gonna get?
Problem is we have little else to talk about and the draft is coming up soon! Dont worry, all these discussions will die. April 23rd is the draft!

Re: who we gonna get?
Thank God. Finally some real news. I've been looking at the NFL EUROPE SCHEDULE just to find some kind of football to watch.

I think both Jackson and William's will. but in taking Jackson we get a very similar player and a CB it's a 2 for 1 situation I say we go for both rather than Williams. let me add a foot note, Jackson looked very aggressive at the combine I like a guy who is fighting for all he's worth on every play they almost always find a way to succeed. |
Re: who we gonna get?
i read one guy say that willams is like keyshawn in dallas, and i agree. look at his career not worth a number 9 pick in my book and even if he's going to be better in the long run it's going to take him at least a year to get going. he's been out a year and the competition is drastically better. he was done wrong by the ncaa no doubt. drop to the middle of first round for a 1st and additional 2nd or good player and a 2nd or 3rd and get cb carlos from auburn and a gurad reciever in later rounds. i really would like to get elton brand 6"6 346 and can move. here comes portis. maybe even a big grind it back in later rounds. it would also help inside the five:soapbox: :grouphug: :dallas:

Thanks for listening to my bitching!!!
Theres no reason to lash out at BigSkin for making this thread. If you actually read his first post, you would see that he clearly stated that this thread was meant to center everyones thoughts on the draft and everyones opinions on individual players could be organized into a meaningful discussion. This thread was definitely not created so he could "be heard". Maybe you made this post so you could start a conflict and you could gain attention. It was a good idea to put all the threads together but there was no need to make a "personal attack". Half of the posts on most threads are completely meaningless without any thoughtful insight and your post falls into this category. I dont post that much, I mainly read what people have to say. It seems like on every thread, there is at least one person who tries to start a conflict with another member (like in the Bailey thread, someone said that since we are all Redskins fans, there is no need to ignite conflicts). You ended your post by thanking us for listening to your bitching. I mean this in the kindest way and I dont want to cause another fight, but bitching is for bitches so dont bitch. In other words, no meaningful discussions can take place if people always try to insult rather than give insight. This post was directed at everyone not just ChounsMan. |
