John Keim @john_keim 3m
Geathers is a depth guy. Skins will be his 6th team since 2010.... 6-8, 340. last season was his 1st playing all 16 games (or more than 8) |

Is he really related to Jumpy? I met Geathers back in 1993. Perhaps the largest human being I've ever seen. |
Re: Redskins have signed DE Clifton Geathers
hey, depth is depth, he's only 26 and has pretty damn impressive size... so ... I'm alright with it...
tell us about that eagles defensive playbook son! |

Sure is, Jumpy was one strong MF. I remember seeing lift Guy McIntyre during a game and throw him to the side. |
Re: Redskins have signed DE Clifton Geathers
Check his Wiki.....half his dang family is in the NFL...LOL
His brother, Robert Geathers Jr., is a defensive end for the Cincinnati Bengals. His uncle, James Jumpy Geathers, played defensive end in the NFL. Clifton's father, Robert Geathers Sr., was a third-round pick in the 1981 NFL Draft, but an injury ended his career. His younger brother, Kwame Geathers, played college football at The University of Georgia and is currently a nose tackle for the San Diego Chargers. His cousin Clayton Geathers plays defensive back for the University of Central Florida. |
Re: Redskins have signed DE Clifton Geathers
He doesn't solve our need for a pass rushing lineman but he sure is a young, space-eating blob.
|
Re: Redskins have signed DE Clifton Geathers
Redskins Park must look like the unemployment office right about now.
Somebody please tell me what the what the f*ck is going on |
Re: Redskins have signed DE Clifton Geathers
Here's to hoping we can coach him up.
|
Re: Redskins have signed DE Clifton Geathers
My first thought was to wonder if he's related to "Jumpy" Geathers too.
This kid is 6'8" and 340! |

If he makes the team will they give him the same # a BIG if I know but.
|
Re: Redskins have signed DE Clifton Geathers
Between Geathers and Worthington there will be many batted balls.

That would be nice. |
Re: Redskins have signed DE Clifton Geathers
Ahh, if only we could get Clifton to need a toothpick:
Jumpy was a big D-lineman that no one seemed to be able to motivate, control or get much out of, so they'd resorted to screaming and hollering at him. That might have worked, if Jumpy was, say, another guy. But Jumpy's early childhood trauma had been a father figure screaming at him. He went into a shell if you did that. Blew you off. And Joe Gibbs instinctively realized this. I can still see and hear him now on the sidelines, when the physically-gifted Jumpy ran out on the field for the playoff games that led to one of those three Super Bowl wins. "Way to go, Jump-pay!" hollered Joe Gibbs. And Jumpy looks over at him, smiles, and proceeds to eat the offensive line alive, then comes off the field and asks Joe if he has a toothpick on him.
ESPN.com - Page2 - Killer coaches and playoff hunches |
Re: Redskins have signed DE Clifton Geathers
I loved this signing. Obviously its not a headline by any stretch, but the kid is a massive human being at 6'8 340lbs. He just turned 26 in december, he is young and large. Adds much needed depth to our older Dline and if anything can stick his hands up and bat a ball if he gets in there. Just more young depth, which is always good.

Re: Redskins have signed DE Clifton Geathers
A lot of people getting hyped about his size, but it won't matter if he's Fatal Bert 2.0 on the field. Idk if he even makes it out of preseason. Given his size, I'd love it if this is the year things come together for him, but I'm in wait-and-see mode on this one.

Id rather have Jumpy Geathers

Who wouldn't? If the coaches can light a fire on this kid, he could be devastating. I would love to see that, Jumpy "the forklift" II. |
Re: Redskins have signed DE Clifton Geathers
YES. WOnderful signing. If im not mistaken, didn't the seahawks lead the league in batted balls? Im pretty sure they did. And they signed the highest amount of players that have been on over 6 teams in under 4 years.
Slowly, we are building a winner. Fucking Geathers and Bruce fucking Campbell? God fucking damn it, I was gonna wait before I got worried, but fuck the rosy outlook, what is this guy doing? |

Re: Redskins have signed DE Clifton Geathers
Guys like this, Campbell , and even S Moss will have to prove they can even make the 53 man squad. This guys seems a lot like Merling last year, but won't make the 53 like he did due to suspensions.

Re: Redskins have signed DE Clifton Geathers
Why are we going so ridiculously heavy at DLine? I know it all starts up front, and that a good pass rush helps out the secondary, yadda yadda yadda, but we need a frikkin safety, period. Anyone remember the beginning of last year? On pace to allow the most yards through the air and passing TD's for a while? Is that now not a concern because a little time has passed?
|
Re: Redskins have signed DE Clifton Geathers
You already said it....it all starts up front
So lets start. |
Re: Redskins have signed DE Clifton Geathers
If he makes the team, Geathers might even block a FG or an XP for us.

If we had a better pass rush last year, especially from the d-line, some of those issues in the secondary would have been covered up. The Green Bay game always comes to my mind, we couldn't get any rush up the gut and they went to a quick hitting passing game and Rodgers picked us apart all day long. |

Safety is still a major concern. We had a lot of holes to fill in FA and Allen has filled many of them. Of course, what's left to do is with safety. We likely won't acquire a quality starts-this-year safety outside of a draft or FA miracle, so it appears that we are stuck with another year of average-at-best safety play. But we can acquire roughly average safeties as late as training camp. So there is reason to be sad about safety but no reason to panic. |

Gruden is much more likely to keep an eye on the wavier wire for players who can help. |

If that is true, then we will need to keep some cap space to sign released players. I still see holes at RT, Safety, and yes Kicker. |

That is one of the spots where there is no hole. |

I would say that is one of the reasons kick off coverage last year was so poor, Forbath struggled mightily to get the ball to the 10 - 5 yard line. Hauschka would be a tremendous upgrade. |
Re: Redskins have signed DE Clifton Geathers
I know it's way to early but I'm bored predict how man DL's make the squad and there names.
