Just looking to see what the interest level is for this.

I'm thinking of a system where we have a collection of Skins avatars to choose from, and once you reach a certain post level, for a donation you can choose your own avatar.

In a way, you're right. Too much is made of the avatars here.

However, since you have never had anything good to say about anything, to my knowledge, I stand firmly in the avatar camp.

I say no...
I kinda like having the tiered system based on post #s. Maybe having a couple at each level to choose from but that's it. I think everyone makes too much of the avatar situation.
Now if this is a ploy to raise money for continued support of the site I do think it is a good way to go.

I say for each group (i.e. special teams, 1st round pick, etc.) we have a sitewide vote to determine the Avatars...

thats not a bad idea, but i like how the avatars are nice and clean cut, nice and organized so the site looks appealing and neat. but whatever ppl want thats cool.

Though it would be great revenue for the site I don't feel it would benefit the site. People getting special icons for special things (SkinsNCanes for fantasy) I think is a great idea. Incentive avatars. Otherwise I like it the way it is! Won't blame you if you do start selling em!

if anything, just maybe have two or three different players to choose from when you reach a certain level.

I thought the idea was to have posts that actually had some meaning...instead of a post about nothing. If this is all I have to care about I might as well be a c....fan oh hell I can't even type it....

It's like a custom license plate. Some people don't care, others really think it's important and personal. From the later group, the site would be able to bring in a little extra dough. Probably a good idea.

I personally wouldn't tie the avatars to the number of posts you've ever made. A lot of the time people just put one-line posts and that racks up their post total, but they're not adding any real quality or thought by doing that.

I would make different avatars available. If you don't donate anything, you get stuck with a choice of like 3 crappy ones. Then if you donate a certain amount, that opens up more choices for you. Then if you donate even more, that opens up more choices for you.

yea, thats a great idea, penalize some fellow skins fans just because they can't afford to make donations. :frusty:

Matty the system you've been using forever is great. think it's a big reason for WP's success and cleaniness. just keep it current, and everyone will be happy.

In the end, it's just an avatar, so whatever you want to do with them, I don't think people are going to think it's a big deal one way or another. I think what makes this site great is the insight posted on the message boards. Seems like people here care more about content than the appearance of the site (including avatars).

Actually I did watch a little of the Admerals/Fire game. Gibran Hamden looked good playin. I didnt understand why they rotate guys in though. (Ie. Kurt Kittner played for Hamden in the second half).

I said yes as long as a few things happened, I remember it was discussed at one time that some people wanted the choice of a group of different player avatars for each (ie 3 different players for special teams to chose from, etc.)
I don't want to see a whole bunch a crap avatars that people made. Not having that option is what makes this forum diffrent from all the others. The simplicity of the site is awesome.
I just wanna see more choice, I'll donate for the ability to have something different than morton. I do like the idea of giving the avatars as a reward for contest like with Skins n Canes Avatar. but for me personally I would only choose between the avatars avialable to me, not make my own. I don't think noone wants all that video crap and jacked up pictures that u see on other sites.

Agree.... Also I agree with the Idea of having avatar's as rewards, as we did this past year with fantasy football....

how about just letting us post our own avatars?it could'nt be crude or vulgar,it would have to be decent.we are all man enough to keep our word i would hope,afterall,we are redskin fans.

THey have that, bigredskin. It's called every other website. It destracts from the content, slows everything down, and the administrators don't have to constantly babysit people with vulgar avatars.

Actually, if the admin sets a size limit on the avatar (such as the sizes now) and specifies no animated gifs, then it really wouldn't slow the site down. I'm a moderator on another forum board, and we never have had a problem with vulgar avatars.

I'd like for the avatars to stay the same too, but I am also the originator (in a round about way) of the idea proposed here. I think there is a way of being little more flexible with the avatars and also improving the warpath.

I like the ranking system. Yea, now I have my own avatar but I still love the way the rankings are setup. Plus, the avatars are going to get changed everyyear anyways to keep the site fresh. Because everyyear we are going to have new scrubs in blue hats, a new first round draft pick, and hopefully a new probowler!

Plus, we should all be donating to the warpath anyways! Mabye this is a little hint that with the new server and everything, we should be helping matty out a little more with the financial burdon...

The distraction on other sites keeps bringing me back here! It seems like the streets are cleaner, the birds are singing, and all is Perfect in the Land of TheWarpath.net!

Sorry to all the aspiring photoshop artists, but one thing that I can guarantee will never happen is people posting their own avatars, pics in the signatures, etc.
