w/o of next year

wut do u guys think? u all think next year is going to be taylor jacobs nd darnerian mcCants break out season.....i really like both of them.....jacobs has exceptional speed nd great hands i really dont see why he cant be at least a number 3 guy.....i also really liek mcCants......he is the big target that gibbs wanted......nd he has pretty good hands....the downside with him is that he doesnt have a good work ethic.........what do u guys think?

Re: w/o of next year

I think Gibbs has a bunch of recievers, one or two of whom will step up and have a good year. I think Jacobs probably has a better chance, because he will be active game days since he plays special teams. McCants' lack of playing time is frustrating because he has the size and the hands be a big part of the offense, especially in the redzone.

Re: w/o of next year

I had a dream a few weeks ago that DMac started wearing 81 and became 81 on the field. Dreams aside, I think McCants biggest downside is his inability or unwillingness to play special teams. I like Jacobs and think he can be a very good WR.

Re: w/o of next year

We haven't seen much from Jacobs and McCants and Gibbs hasn't given me much of a reason to think we will see that much more next year. I think Patten was underrated with the Pats and is going to have a good year with a larger role. Moss has proven he can get into the end zone... something we didn't see from Coles. Thrash is steady but unexciting.

Daseal 04-04-2005 08:58 PM

Re: w/o of next year

I don't know, Gibbs gave Jacobs a good amount of playing time in the last game. He talks highly of him.

Jacobs is my pick for a surprise/breakout player for 2005

funny stuff man. . . .

We can't just dismiss the fact that Mccants seem to be in the doghouse the entire year? whats the deal? Why was he benched for so much of the year? I think Jacobs has potential, he has had bad luck with injury, I think he will contribute this year...but I really think Moss and Patten are going to productive...

i agree with tafkas and matty, but just a side note...

this topic has been posted before many times...for future reference for the new people to the board, please search back through old threads to see if you might happen to be repeating what has already been said. i feel like we're beating a dead horse here...just my two cents.

Re: w/o of next year

I think that Ramsey's development will help our receivers look better next season. We have the speed to get open and enough talent to wreck havoc is Gibbs will open up the game.
Jacobs is my pick for a surprise/breakout player for 2005
I agree that he has the potential, but I dont see him getting the opportunity. He will be spot played most of the year I think. The WR competition is going to be intense this preseason. Basically every slot is up for grabs

Daseal 04-05-2005 01:17 AM

Re: w/o of next year

I disagree, Skins. I see Jacobs becoming our #2. He's fast as hell, and has great hands. Gibbs has had nothing but praise for the guy, I really want to see what he can do, I doubt I'm alone. Right now we don't have any standout receivers to take his place.

Dead Horse Walking! I also agree with Tafkas & Matty.

Re: w/o of next year

I defnitely think Jacobs has promise. He's definitely not a bruiser, but he IS fast as hell as Daseal said.

Re: w/o of next year

I like Jacobs for a big year. WRs frequently break out in their third year, and I like what I've seen/heard about him so far. I see McCants as a decent red zone threat, but probably not much else. Patten can stretch the field well. I guess my biggest issue with our WRs is I don't see a reliable 3rd down, go-to, possession receiver. Outside of McCants, we don't have anyone over 6 foot, 200 lbs.

TheMalcolmConnection 04-05-2005 09:42 AM

Re: w/o of next year

I think it's odd that Gibbs hasn't (at least I don't think) mentioned having McCants in the game plan for next year.

Red Robert 04-05-2005 09:42 AM

Re: w/o of next year

I personally love to beat dead horses. I think the real decision will be made by Ramsey. Who will he have the best on field and off raport with. I like Jacobs chances based on last season, I would love to see both McCants and Jacobs out there.

TheMalcolmConnection 04-05-2005 09:47 AM

Re: w/o of next year

I like Jacobs' chances too, but I also remember days when Ramsey and McCants hooking up often.

dirtbag2112 04-05-2005 09:55 AM

Re: w/o of next year

Jacobs!!! And remember it all starts with the running game. I think we'll have better production all around. Hopefully Portis can get up near that 5.5 avg again and everything else will take care of itself.

TheMalcolmConnection 04-05-2005 10:04 AM

Re: w/o of next year

Exactly. And with that kind of production, we can have mediocre receivers look like Pro Bowlers.

Red Robert 04-05-2005 10:47 AM

Re: w/o of next year

You guys are correct. It is all about Portis and getting better than 4 yards per carry. I think Cooley could be a bigger breakout guy than McCants or Jacobs to be quite honest.

TheMalcolmConnection 04-05-2005 11:56 AM

Re: w/o of next year

I don't know how Cooley can break out any more than he did this year. I just hope he stays consistent. All I ask is he catches the balls and works on his blocking.

MTK 04-05-2005 12:01 PM

Re: w/o of next year

I thought Cooley already had a breakout season of sorts.

I can see him moving into the 50 catch range this year, and remaining a big redzone target with 7-10 TDs.

firstdown 04-05-2005 12:01 PM

Re: w/o of next year

I think we have some average to a little above average WR but who are very fast. If we can spread the field some and get Portis moving we could become the double threat that defences hate to contend with. Our entire offence could be the surprise of the NFL in 2005.

TheMalcolmConnection 04-05-2005 12:03 PM

Re: w/o of next year

I would say in general, all the players at our skill positions except for Ramsey are EXTREMELY fast and I have trust in Gibbs that he will use that to our full advantage.

Daseal 04-05-2005 12:20 PM

Re: w/o of next year

I hope so, because with our 5'5 130lb receivers, the WR screen won't get much upfield blocking =p

TheMalcolmConnection 04-05-2005 02:04 PM

Re: w/o of next year

Haha! I hope that we phase that play out unless Jacobs has some moves we haven't seen yet. If Coles couldn't get it done, I really have doubts about Jacobs and even Moss.

TheMalcolmConnection 04-05-2005 02:05 PM

Re: w/o of next year

Things that are very promising are the fact Ramsey has a VERY strong arm and our receivers have VERY fast legs. I think combining the two will most definitely help out our "big play" average.

Red Robert 04-05-2005 02:31 PM

Re: w/o of next year

Gotta ride with Malcolm on this one (strong arm + fast legs = BIG plays). Reference Cooley again, Last year you saw flashes of potential. I think this year he will be one of the top T.E/ H-backs in the NFC or the league. Who do you guys think is the top five are in the league right now?

TheMalcolmConnection 04-05-2005 02:44 PM

Re: w/o of next year

Gonzalez, Crumpler, Heap, (I hate to say it) but Whitten and Gates.

Forgot Shockey.

TheMalcolmConnection 04-05-2005 02:47 PM

Re: w/o of next year

I definitely think Cooley can be an above average to great player. Not to be pessimistic, but in staying with a typical school of thought, we didn't expect a lot so anything that he could contribute was WELL above average.

To his full credit though, he caught almost EVERYTHING that came his way. He wasn't afraid to take big hits and he runs fairly well after the catch.

Yeah, and we'll get Shuler to provide depth.

LOL I almost forgot. But hey, why not? We'd have a lefty and a righty (I think.)

Re: w/o of next year

Jacobs will get some freak injury during training camp like always does.....something like....he will rupture his spleen when dives for an overthrown ball and lands on someones foot. Or he will pull his hammy and miss two weeks of training camp.
The guy does have talent.
