Wonder why the actual knockout punch was never shown to the public? You just see the aftermath. I gotta feeling things would be a little different if it was released.

Jacksonville traded up to draft Blaine Gabbert in 2011 and traded up to draft Blackmon in 2012. Never thought a team could make Vinny look good but Jacksonville is really trying hard.

As for Blackmon himself, he has ruined his career and cost himself millions of dollars. I really dont get it. He is a very good WR, he just needs to clean himself up.

Is there something about this Ray Rice deal that I'm missing? Such as, his girlfriend actually beat the crap out of him and he just got one lucky swing in on the way down? Because getting suspended 2 games for knocking his GF out when other players get suspended 4 games for smoking weed once and indefinite suspensions for being a "repeat offender" is just mind-numbingly stupid. WTF is the NFL trying to say? "For all you kids at home, we believe that punching women is a better form of entertainment than smoking weed?" I don't get it.

LOL! I actually had a Ravens fan argue with me one day that Vinny Cerrato had nothing to do with the Redskins woes, that he was actually a really good GM who had an eye for talent. Pointed to what he did with the 49ers. :saywhat:

Just to point out, if you get caught smoking weed once by the NFL, its not even reported. Anyone getting a suspension for weed has been caught twice.

Also, I understand the NFL suspending players for off field issues. But the courts need to be front and center when it comes to spousal abuse. When we are relying on the NFL (or any other professional sports league) to police America, we have lost our priorities. If the state of NJ sent ray Rice to jail for a year, would anyone be complaining about a 2 game suspension? The courts have got to do more when it comes to these things.

Editing to add: The NFL still has to follow the CBA when it comes to punishment. Can the NFL actually suspend Ray Rice for a year? I could be wrong, but I dont think they could even if they wanted to. The players union has a role in this as well.

Fair enough. Still man, it's weed.

I really hadn't thought about that side of it, but if the NFLPA wouldn't agree to year-long or indefinite suspensions for a player like Rice who copped out of aggravated assault charges, why would they turn around and allow those long suspensions for something minor like smoking weed? I don't know... I think the NFL could have done more.

Because that's what they negotiated in the CBA. There is a set policy for drugs and PEDs, not so much one of behavior off the field. (assaults/DUIs/etc) That's why they can argue for a year long suspension for a player beating his girl, but they don't argue for a player caught 4 times smoking weed.

Im not trying to disagree with you. Im in the legalize but regulate/tax it camp. Although I do believe it has to be age regulated as well, meaning a minimum of 21 to buy it just like alcohol.

As for the union, most of them have always said that the courts need to be the main body punishing for these things. And I cant say that I disagree with them. If Ray Rice shouldnt be playing football in game 3 this season, it absolutely does mean that the courts failed. If professional athletes are in jail for these offenses, then they arent playing professional sports.

Having said that, it would be awesome if the Cowboys hired him. How jacked to you think RGIII (among others) would be to beat the snot out of a Shannahan coached team?

Interesting statement about coming back for "the right ownership." I guess that means we have the "wrong" ownership. Given that Snyder gave Shanny everything he wanted, not sure what would make for the "right" ownership.

When he says "for the right ownership", he means another owner like Dan Snyder who would be willing to give him full control over the team and personnel. Mike didn't have an issue with Dan because Dan gave him everything he wanted, which is what Mike wants. That said, any owner that gives Mike full control again deserves his franchise ran into the ground. I'd let him coach, but no way would I let him have full control over the team.

edit: Add in the fact he'd be looking for "salary cap space" to compete in free agency would be a resounding FUCK NO on the Shanahan option. He'd blow it all and leave you fucked for years after it falls apart.

Getting mixed signals here -- are you saying it's a good idea to give him a blank check? (Ha.) I agree with this assessment. Candidly, I don't think he was terribly effective as a coach either. The 2012 run we made came after he said that we were probably out of the playoffs, and the players took it upon themselves to step up. While folks speculated that maybe Shanny was giving them motivation, I thought it was more a moment of candor. So the best of the Redskins was arguably inspired by his over-sharing.

Anyway, moving on....

I am excited to see what Gruden can do.

I don't think he's taking a shot at Snyder. I've heard several ex coaches say the same thing. He should do some TV and enjoy his millions. At this point not sure why he'd want to coach anymore.
