XBOX 360 to be unveiled on MTV

[indent]Microsoft will give the world its first real taste of the next-generation Xbox system on MTV next month, as both companies today announced a marketing alliance and celebrity-studded television special in support of the console.


On Thursday, May 12, MTV will air “MTV Presents: The Next Generation Xbox Revealed,” hosted by Lord of the Rings star and confessed gaming fanatic Elijah Wood. Microsoft promises to reveal not only details on the next Xbox’s connectivity, personalization, and high-definition output, but actual footage from next-generation games.

Las Vegas band The Killers will also play. Uh, did we mention game footage?

The MTV premiere is exciting in itself, but it also supports the notion that the next Xbox will be a big part of Microsoft’s E3 showing this year. We expect to see plenty related to the new console at next month’s expo, and of course, we’ll be passing the good stuff on to you as quickly as possible.

Look for the MTV special to air May 12 at 9:30 PM Eastern, and on May 13 elsewhere in the world.

i can't see it not being backwards compatible. if anything can be learned from Nintendo it was watching people be able to play the Tetris game that came with the original Game Boy on the GBA SP...

and if there is no internal hd (which was ingenius, and because of it, i didn't mind shelling out the 30 bucks for the DVD kit), they are really pushing the line of insanity...

unless the new XBox blows the old one out of the water, I'll be content with my old box for now. i mean, how much further can they really take it now...

That's what I'm saying. Like are the graphics going to be like REAL people?! Until they come out with a new format of media that holds more than 9.4 GB, then I'm not sold on any new XBOXs or PS2s.

I've seen some early screenshots of Madden for the new systems and I'm tellin you it looks incredible!

I've heard that the new XBox will, in fact have an internal hard drive. I believe I read that in an article on IGN not more than a month ago, and that info was from someone involved with the development of the new system. I'll see if I can dig up the article.

It was an issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly a few issues back. It was just one picture, with a caption something along the lines of "Yes, Madden will look this good on the next generation systems".

The picture looked pretty damn real.

I don't think it was an actual screenshot, just a rendering of what it may look like, but it was still damn impressive.

Just think of the jump from the first Playstation and Nintendo 64 to what there is now with the PS2, GameCube and XBOX. It will probably be a similar jump in quality.

There goes another 300-400 bucks out of my pocket to have the newest technology. :P

I saw some screenshots (maybe renderings) of this Fable-like game and it definitely looked VERY real.

there's a story on gamespot.com about a high ranking analyst from Forbes magazine believing it will actually be in the 250-300 price range which wouldn't be so bad especially if it is back wards compitable cuz then I could trade in my x-box towards the x-box 360 or whatever it's gonna be called. plus as a rpg fan, finding out that the director of the last few Final Fantasy games (as well as the FF composer) have signed a deal with microsoft for 2 rpgs for the next x-box I'm so pysched cuz the ps2 completely kicks the ass of the x-box in terms of role playing games.

that would be hellasweet...however, my living room isn't that big. hopefully it is scaled depending on the size of the room you're in ;)

Just game on your computers guys. Toss the 500 bucks you'll spend on the system and games on Ram and a nice video card and you have a great gaming system. The games are always expanding and growing, and are light years ahead of consoles. Not to mention, many more control features, etc.

Granted some games (racing mainly) and sometimes sports I prefer on a console, but everything else I prefer on the computer. Bungie is rumored to be making a new game somewhat similar to myth ([url]www.playmyth.net[/url])[myth's free if you want to try it let me know, when they were bought out by MS they gave it to the community], that will probably be ruined by going to Xbox because they can't match the complexity of a keyboard and mouse.

I agree with that. The only reason I have consoles is because the games seem to come out first for them and later for PC.

Graphics on a good PC tear up a console any day.

i mainly only play sports games, and to me they are much better on console, so i don't mind spending the money on a console.

besides, i spend 8+ hours a day on the computer here at work. the last thing i want to do when i get home is sit down at the computer to play video games.

I can't wait to have kids and play PS2 with them. I think a single tear will roll down my cheek when my sons get pissed that their Madden Redskins team is losing to MY Madden Redskins team.

How much was the XBOX when it first came out, I should remember since I was working in an electronics store at the time, LOL.

All I remember was it being quite expensive, hopefully it will be a bit more reasonable this time around.

it was 300...because i remember ponying up like 400 something to get the extra controller, the dvd setup kit and a game or 2...

and now they're like 120...

Yup. Now you can get an original Xbox for $150 and then have enough money for both Halos, wireless controllers AND DVD kit, without even breaking $300.

JEEZ! Those specs are CRAZY. Leave it to Microsoft to basically make your console a PC. It looks pretty sweet too.
