Something new to bitch about
All the talk about problem Skins has me thinking that we're not heaping enough abuse on the guy that really deserves it. I just took another look at Brunell's contract. I hated this deal when it happened, and I hate it even more now.
Contract: Current Contract: 7 years, $43.36 million, $8.6 million signing bonus. Base Salaries: 2004: $760K; 2005: $1.5 million; 2006: $4 million; 2007: $5.2 million; 2008: $6.4 million; 2009: $7.6 million; 2010: $8.8 million. Contract Notes: Roster bonus of $500K in 2005 I can't think of a better example of front office bungling resulting in such gross overpayment to an undeserving bum since the Deion deal. What in the world are we going to do with this guy? We can't trade him, and if we cut him we're going to be in even more cap hell. Anybody have any thoughts? Re: Something new to bitch about
I have no idea; we have to pray for an uncapped year in 2007. Although if the cap goes away...it aint ever comin back; which I dont know if it would be good for the game. I think thats somthing we should kick around; but year this deal sucks.

Re: Something new to bitch about
Damn, talk about backloading a contract!
|
Re: Something new to bitch about
Yes but if you take a look at the salary cap spreadsheet on this very site, you will see that we can release Brunell after June 1, 2006 for a minimal cap hit. Which I can only assume we will do, because that contract defines the word exorbitant.
|
Re: Something new to bitch about
Brunnell will be out the door so fast on June 1, 2006 that it will be almost funny, if his being here until then weren't so damn painful.
We should probaly mark that day on the calendar and have some kind of party... |
Re: Something new to bitch about
I do not understand the salery cap stuff. Can someone tell me what would be the consequences if we let him go in 06 or he retired in 06?
|
Re: Something new to bitch about
Sorry - but since when has bitching about Brunnell (either his play or his contract) qualified as "new stuff"? I thought we had flayed that horse into puppy chow already.
|
Re: Something new to bitch about
Is that his restructured contract? Or his original?
|

Looks like if he was cut or retired after June 1 2006 he would count 1,433,000 against our 06 cap and 4,300,000 aganist our 07 cap. |

Totally agree. Let's talk about something more relevant...like, was it really Spurrier's fault? |
Re: Something new to bitch about
i just dont like it when players like smoot are laughed at for asking for 3 million more that hurt team unity. you want playes to have team unity but you cant pay smoot because of brunnell? that makes arrington say i want my money they paying this bum but cant pay me? that makes sean taylor say man i got screwed its reasonlable to ask for an adjustment look at brunnell? that makes moss say man, i dont know if i can trust these guys so its all business first then i play your team man part. i can understand that. brunnell is a cancer to the team.
|
Re: Something new to bitch about
Is it at all feasible to ask Brunnell to take a pay cut him being a good morality guy and all take a paycut he can still be the highest paid backup QB in the league but take a paycut for the team. take one for the team prove you are a team guy you know in your heart you dont deserve your contract what would billy graham do?
|
Re: Something new to bitch about
I don't think he can do any more than he has becasue he cannot restructure a signing bonus .
The only thing that will benifit from a capless year are the money teams, like us, Dallas and NE etc. In one way it could bring back the great clashes of the dynasty teams and meen there will be less flawed teams getting to the playoffs . But it could meen the end of poorer teams like the Colts ... |

This is just one of the ramifications of all the money that Danny Boy spent for any player he wanted even if they did not deserve the contract they received. Now all of our players expect larger contracts. To bring in an older QB without seeing him do some drills was plan stupid. Then to give him that kind of money makes the situation even worse. Now we have 99% of our players making substantially less money than him and are now better players. If he had been on the team as his skills deminished that would be one thing but he was hired and payed big bucks with litttle to offer. These things will work themselves out but it will take few years and we have to show restrant in our future dealings as we have done this offseason.

Re: Something new to bitch about
The sad part is showing restraint we lose a smoot and a pierce and i aht to say it an arrington in the process

hahah, yea, lets chalk this up as one of Spurriers bad moves |

I say get rid of the salary cap....I suppose we would still have free agency, but if a team is willing to pay the bucks (without restrictions) to keep their players, let it happen. Just hope it happens after we get a really good team together! |
Re: Something new to bitch about
What burns me up is the draft pick the deal cost us also!! What was it? A second or third round? That really makes us look like asses.
As much as I would love to blame this on Vinny C. (we haven't got rid of that bum yet?) Marky B was definitly Gibb's doing. I think he was just excited to be back and didn't think clearly on that one. |

Don't count on it. And has anyone started to think about how hard it is going to be to resign Ramsey next year because of this? |

Oh come one, are you serious? Have you noticed how baseball sucks and football is awesome? Yeah, that's the salary cap. I know it would help the Skins, but you would have 15 teams that could never compete. Say goodbye to the Packers, Colts, Chiefs, Vikings, etc. |
Re: Something new to bitch about
MB aint going anywhere because Gibbs loves him. Also PR likes him and thinks he's a great mentor. My bet is MB stays.
Marky B ........
Brilliant! I had not seen his name put quite that way before. I felt all year, HOF Coach Gibbs fell in love with Marky B................. (brilliant name by the way!) because he saved HOF Coach Gibbs life the night they met! |

Wow. More common sense--a thoughtful post instead of the idiotic normal banter that is so prevalent on this site. Listen tards, Mark Brunell has us by the cahones. He isn't going anywhere due to his cap numbers. I hate it as well but I accept it unlike you Pollyannas. Brunell will play again this upcoming season-as said so by your GOD Joe Gibbs-- so get used to it while you go hug your Patrick Ramsey dolls. |

Only if Ramsey has a great year which he has shown no evidence so far to think he will. And if he doesn't we will be drafting QB next year---Hopefully Leinart. |

But, I think you hit it on the nail with "pendejo". Perfect definition of Skins Domin8. |
Re: Something new to bitch about
SKINZ DOMIN8... it is completely unequivocal that not only are you ignorant when it comes to football, but you are not even a Redskins fan. You have the mental capacity of an eight year old. Makes me wanna pinch you on the cheek and tell you that youre cute.

It's OK. I normally don't say anything. I just sit back and laugh because it's ONE thing to make up a BS name and come on here and post crap, but he makes a POINT to say at least 2-3 mentally challenged posts a day.
He's getting his own punishment. :) :Smoker: |
Re: Something new to bitch about
I may get blasted for saying what I'm going to say but I really don't care let me have it LOL. I have not heard anyone lately say anything positive about Brunell mainly because of his pitiful play last season coupled with the size of his contract. However for those of us who really know and understand the game of football realize that all the blame for the ugly beginning last season does not rest squarely at the feet of Brunell. There were a combination of reasons why we did not do well in the games Brunell started, though I undrestand we as fans always look for a scape goat, and one thing or person we can lay the blame on when things go bad.
For as much as many of us do not like the guy, he's still a Redskin and the back-up QB on our team one bad play from being under center. Anything happen to Ramsey and we all know who Gibbs is going to put in the game and there's no question about it, and that's providing Ramsey plays well enough to hold on to his precarious position I'm a true Redskin fan and I want to see us win games I don't care who plays, so whether we like Brunell, hate Brunell or whatever our opinion is it is certainly not out of the question he could play for the team again despite based on what I read from most of us who wish he were gone. |

Did you actually watch him play? He could barely complete a pass over 10 yards, threw the ball away when he had time to pass to an open man. He was a MAJOR cause for our poor season. Granted he wasn't the sole reason, but he was the major contributing factor. Or maybe I just don't understand football. |
Re: Something new to bitch about
Yeah, I don't think that anyone said he was solely the cause. I think we all concurred that he was a MAJOR problem though.
