Practice Squad eligibility and who the Skins added

Good article on the new rules for practice squad eligibilityNFL Practice squad rules and eligibility - Bucs Nation

Also can list the Skins players that sign here or somewhere else if you hear them

CRedskinsRule 08-31-2014 12:26 PM

@rich_tandlercsn Surprising to some, not to me. RT @NBCdianna: The Redskins did not claim any players per sources.

Re: Practice Squad eligibility and who the Skins added

Crawford not asked to be on PS. TE Bolser at Redskin park to sign contract. All notes are from various tweets. Mostly Keim or Tandler

I really hope that Seastrunk is signed to the practice squad. I would hate to see Philly sign him, and watch him become Darren Sproles's heir apparent.

Re: Practice Squad eligibility and who the Skins added

Still really shocked they didn't keep him. Kept hearing throughout preseason you can't coach speed but we let the speed go. Just seemed odd

OK, in two hours Richard Crawford went from being told not in plans even on PS to ... just signed to the practice squad...confirms via text

Chris Thompson on the PS, according to Keim.

Keim: Another one on the PS list per @ZacBoyer: Phillip Thomas.

Re: Practice Squad eligibility and who the Skins added

According to Boyer, Minnifield is back.

https://twitter.com/ZacBoyer/status/506154135268626432

And Tevita Stevens, according to Brian McNally.

https://twitter.com/bmcnally14/status/506149870672297984

That makes 8:

T. Stevens
C. Minnifield
P. Thomas
R. Crawford
N. Williams
A. Davis
T. Bolser
C. Thompson

Two spots left.

Makes you wonder if Seastrunk makes it.

Looks like Akeem Davis being back isn't yet official, as per Redskins Twitter handle.

https://twitter.com/Redskins/status/506169307424776192

Robert Thomas IS on the list though, hadn't seen that report yet. So, if Akeem Davis does clear waivers and is on the PS, that leaves one spot. Still no word on Seastrunk.

Cannot believe the grief over Lache. I mean yeah, he's fast. However, every report said he was raw, couldn't block, and was not a pass catcher. Please folks. He was a 6th round pick for a reason. Not like his speed was a secret before the draft.

I saw that the browns claimed one RB but haven't heard who, wouldn't be surprised to see Royster or Seastrunk.

I think it was his big play potential and Jamaal Charles cutting ability that had everyone having internet orgasms but I agree with you, while I wanted to see him stick around, as of now we havent lost anything with him not being here. Silas is the better RB.

Agreed. He also seemed to have a great attitude. I think people see the great HR potential In a guy like that.

That one screen pass in pre-season sent them over the edge.

Agreed, and I am happy that we have Silas. But he is not electric. It would be helpful to have a Sproles-like explosive player in the backfield on offense.

Yes, Lache is raw and incompetent as a blocker. But I think he is a keep-and-develop guy. I hope we get him back.

Neither.

The #Browns did end up finding another RB. I'm told they claimed Glenn Winston, who played for #49ers and Michigan St

It'd be awesome to see Seastrunk get through waivers and get claimed by us.

And yay Nick Williams is still a Redskin! All is right in DRave world.

There is a difference between fast and explosive. Chris Thompson is fast but not explosive. In fact, Chris Thompson doesn't impress me at all.

Seastrunk is explosive. I know it when I see it and it is rare. I certainly hope we sign him to the PS and try to develop him.

JoeRedskin 08-31-2014 08:18 PM

Re: Practice Squad eligibility and who the Skins added

Sorry, I have become more and more convinced Seastrunk is a one-trick pony. A liability in 3rd and long unless the draw or screen goes his way. When he is in, ball either goes to him or he is a non-factor. That's the kind of player that, at best, gets taken out of games and, at worst, gets exploited, by the defenses in the regular season.

Yes, he has rare jets ... but that's it folks. There ain't no more. Tydus Winans anyone?

I agree but at the same time you don't have to have that explosive guy. It's nice but not needed. Helu is fast and we have seen moments of his explosiveness. To be fair how many carries would Seastrunk and Thompson have gotten with 1,300 yard rusher Morris and Helu in front of them?

To whomever said Thompson wasn't impressive, I partially agree, I don't agree that he isn't explosive though.

Lotus 08-31-2014 08:43 PM

Re: Practice Squad eligibility and who the Skins added

Sproles had trouble blocking when he entered the NFL, too. He learned and became more complete.

Joe is right that the defense, right now, could key on Lache. But if we snuck him in just one or two plays a game, he might catch defenders napping and hit a home run.

Put this differently: backs tend to burn out quickly, even when on committees. You can't have enough young, fresh legs.

Chico23231 08-31-2014 08:50 PM

Re: Practice Squad eligibility and who the Skins added

Lache is a home run hitter; tough to find those types.

Seriously? How can you possibly know this after 3 preseason games?

The Flash is a rare prospect because of his speed, and by extension, his big play ability. If Seastrunk is foolishly denied a chance here, which won't happen, another team will sign him and give him a chance. He may be raw right now, but then again, he was a 6th rounder. No reason for him to play right away.

Aldrick Robinson is a great example. He was nothing but speed at first, but given time, he's developed into a solid all-around depth receiver.

CRedskinsRule 08-31-2014 10:30 PM

Probably knows it the same way others know he has that flash/explosion after running an 80yd screen in the 4th quarter of the final preseason game against the Buccaneers grocery bagging crew.

No one is sure of anything really but the coaches saw a whole lot more of him then any of us did and they went with an undrafted rookie.
One thing is for sure Lachesis Seastrunk won this year's camp hero award hands down (sorry DRave, NWilliams was a distant 2nd)

SirLK26 08-31-2014 10:39 PM

Re: Practice Squad eligibility and who the Skins added

I'm just saying it's way too early to be saying that Seastrunk can't develop into anything. That's ridiculous.

Re: Practice Squad eligibility and who the Skins added

I can't know it. I saw his speed though. If he had anything other than that, he would probably be on the roster. Did you see him every day in practice? [Sorry, if AR is the comparison, not a particularly convincing case. Three years in and he is still trying to show he can be a consistent receiver.]

Given his explosion, I have to believe the other areas of his game are so deficient that the coaches felt he was simply too far removed from being a pro that he just wasn't worth the effort. Maybe we will regret it, but I seriously doubt it.

Quite frankly, I think this is simply Brandon Banks redux. Too small and too raw. He makes everyone's preseason all-star team only to disappear from view during the season.

Re: Practice Squad eligibility and who the Skins added

Lache is not Banks. But speaking of Banks, my biggest knock on Lache is that he has not found a way to return kicks. Probably his hands. He could be Hester-deadly in the return game.

JoeRedskin 08-31-2014 10:53 PM

Re: Practice Squad eligibility and who the Skins added

Brandon had lots of great preseason plays where he outran everyone. Folks defended him saying he was a playmaker and a home run hitter ... same things they are saying about Seastrunk now. Brandon then disappeared in the regular season.

His speed is undeniable but it takes a lot more than that to be a pro. Would he develop, maybe. Was he outplayed by another young guy (Redd) apparently so. If he can play, someone will pick him up. Barring an injury, I would not be surprised if he is not on a roster (including PS) come opening day.

I assume there is a bit of a bidding/appeal war for him right now. Would have thought we would hear something. Got 9 slots filled one left. I am sure we all would love to have the next Darren Sproles.

You are arguing against talent. He has talent, talent has to be developed. The more the talent the higher the ceiling.

I heard he's received offers from the Redskins, Saints, and Texans. Who knows if that's accurate though, because I also read that the team wasn't planning on adding him to the squad

Reminds me of Marko Mitchell from years ago that got cut and people swore we would regret it. Dude couldn't even make it on a CFL team and probably flipping burgers right now.
