Ravens release Ray Rice
This should've happened a couple of months ago, but at least it happened.

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
I don't think the Ravens really had a choice. How do you keep the guy after the public has seen that video?

Beat me to it. That video is just wow. |

This. Public outcry can play a huge part if the outcry is large enough. |
Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
He lost the support of his teammates too.
|
Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
The cynical side of me is sure someone will have him on a roster next year. Ravens will have to eat 9-10 million dollars of Cap space next year.
|
Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
They should have did this back when they saw the video months ago. They are only doing it due to the public backlash of seeing it. His wife's story didn't jive with that she instigated it.
|
Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
Greg Aiello @gregaiello
Roger Goodell has announced that based on new video evidence that became available today he has indefinitely suspended Ray Rice. |
Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
Fox is a piece of shit, but how in the fuck could they have the audacity to say this.

Shhhhhhhhh. Don't tell Stephen A. Smith Stephen A Smith to Women: ‘Don’t Do Anything to Provoke’ Men Into Beating You It's still a very melancholy feeling though. Being able to say I told you so to so many people who played the 'you weren't there, you didn't see what happened' card seems like it should be more satisfying. Instead I feel rather disgusted after seeing that video. I do believe the NFL's claim that they hadn't seen the video until recently though. Article from February: Source: Police have video of alleged assault involving Ray Rice - NFL - SI.com Still it was pretty obvious based on the original evidence that this offense was much worse than a 2 game ban. |

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
Before the Ray Rice saga began, who knew that we'd all be criticizing Goodell for being too lenient?
|
Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
I can not believe Espn just went to a Fantasy Football guru to talk about the impact of Rice's release.
|
Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
To me, the outrage over the video is somewhat naïve. I mean really, do you know the force it takes to knock someone unconscious? Even for few moments? For someone, anyone, to be turned into a sack of potatoes like the fiancé was, that takes some serious, brutal force. To me, the video is what I thought had happened. (In my younger days, I knocked guys out once or twice and each time my fist hurt like hell).

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
Andrew Brandt @adbrandt 21m
Ray Rice is NOT entitled to 2014 salary as a vested veteran. Must be on 53-man roster at season start; he was on the suspended list. |

don't you mean they slipped and fell into your fists? |

I bet those ravens fans who gave him a standing ovation at training camp and during their preseason games are feeling a little guilty right now.

When the story was first told it sounded more like he pushed her and she hit her head. That was the story Rice and his wife were saying. You can in the video see her hitting her head. Plus there wasn't a picture of her face with damage. Because the prosecutor went so light on him, the NFL sent so light on him, and that was both of their stories I really didn't expect a punch like that. |

I don't know why coming across stuff like this surprises me anymore:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
RayZ fox 31 minutes ago She clearly came at him 0:33. He was backed into a corner. Reply · 18 Likes

MeqaMayne10 minutes ago Lol she deserved it too be honest. She knew he was an athlete and that he was physically stronger, yet she still had the audacity to strike him not once but three times?? Even if Ray could've restrained her him hitting her was warranted cause she hit him. The woman should've figured what could've happened.

Fredrick biggers 6 minutes ago Thatd what she gets, all that she is just a women bullshit is trash, maybe some of your mothers were abused or something but the fact of the matter is a lady should know her lane, she should know when to shut the fuck up. He pays the bills so she should shut up and if she cant stand it just leave. She had it coming. Wanna act like a man you gunna get treated like a man. Reply ·
---------------------------------------------------
I bet those ravens fans who gave him a standing ovation at training camp and during their preseason games are feeling a little guilty right now.
I'm willing to bet that those fans are using the exact same backwards rationalization methods as the geniuses in the quoted post I got from YouTube. |
Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
Hopefully his career is over. His play was already trending down and he's nearing 30. Now with all this drama who would want him?

You've lived in Baltimore, right? I've said it before - there is a significant part of the Ravens' fan population that are simply Eagle fan wannabees. |

Someone Is Lying About Whether The NFL Saw The Ray Rice Tape
Here's SI's Peter King, back in July: There is one other thing I did not write or refer to, and that is the other videotape the NFL and some Ravens officials have seen, from the security camera inside the elevator at the time of the physical altercation between Rice and his fiancée. And here's ESPN's Chris Mortensen, also from July. We saw the TMZ video of what happened outside—when he was dragging her out unconscious—but inside, I'm told from those who have seen the video, it wasn't pretty. In fact, she attacks him—we don't know the reason why—and he strikes her, strikes her hard. And her head—according to the sources I've spoken to—struck the rail inside the elevator and she was unconscious. |

Ravens fans (not all, obviously, but a vocal portion of them) will support anything their players do but will jump all over the slightest perceived slight against them.
I was just shocked that my coworker, the biggest ravens ball licker ever, actually agreed with them releasing him. But sure enough, the fact that rice didn't play particularly well in '13 played into his opinion. I know we all give passes to our guys to a certain extent, but this is the same fan base that worships ray lewis, a guy who very likely had a hand in the murder of two men. |

per Greg Aiello, Goodell has now imposed an indefinite ban based on "new evidence". The "new evidence" being the outrage expressed by the public after viewing what the NFL had already seen. Goodell: "Ohhhhh. Man, I guess I didn't think it was all that wrong. I mean, the abuse victim said it was her fault. Who knew? My bad." |
Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
Him and the Ravens organization.
Based on how non-Raven players are reacting I'm guessing that there's more than a few players on the Ravens who have been outright embarrassed at how the team defended Ray Rice long before this latest video was released. Ray Rice video: NFL players, alums express anger toward Ravens RB - CBSSports.com Oh by the by, our very own London Fletcher hit the nail right on the head.
London Fletcher ✔ @LFletcher59 @nflcommish to say you got that wrong is an understatement. Very disappointed in you. Wow...unbelievable. 8:11 AM - 8 Sep 2014
|

Question I posed to SS today is do you really think this incident was the first time he's hit her? His demeanor in all of it seems like it's natural to him. (during and after) |
Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
I'd bet the house it's not the first time he hit her, or someone else. Hitting someone so brutally like that typically isn't a one time deal.

This is something I was wondering too. From all accounts it seemed like Ray Rice was a positive role model before this incident, does anybody know if this is uncharacteristic of him or is this one of those "nobody knows the guy behind the scenes" deals? Either way, with a hit like that, he deserves all the scorn thrown his way. |
Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
This may have already been posted if so oops. WTF did the league think happened, what did they think a guy knocking out his wif/gf was gonna look like. fn weirdos abound.
