Skins Re-sign the Rock
I'm glad to see we have re-signed Rock. He might not be the high profile signing but is a steady contributer to both special teams and offense.

Re: Skins Re-sign the Rock
I was hoping we would. I've always liked Rock. And the fact that he was a 6th round pick in '02 makes it even better.

Re: Skins Re-sign the Rock
I like him, but in a "Little Engine that Could" kind of way. :)
|
Re: Skins Re-sign the Rock
And when I say Little Engine, I mean the type of Little Engine that would run each and every one of us over like we were nothing. ;)
|
Re: Skins Re-sign the Rock
Great! He's a good special teamer and he provides us with nice depth at RB.
|
Re: Skins Re-sign the Rock
He always seems like the first person down there on kickoff. I don't know if we've talked about this, but Thrash was so damn good on special teams last year. He made a lot of plays pinning people deep.
|
Re: Skins Re-sign the Rock
I agree Malcolm.... Thrash is evil on teams!
|
Re: Skins Re-sign the Rock
And Sellers, even though he was drawing penalties he was driving people away from him.
|
Re: Skins Re-sign the Rock
I like Sellers. He just has to stop with the penalties. I know he's "balls to the wall" but tone it down just a touch. A few of those hurt us pretty bad.

Re: Skins Re-sign the Rock
how could you not want a guy named "rock" on your team
|
Re: Skins Re-sign the Rock
More overhyped deadweight. We can resign marginal players but when it comes to giving Smoot a decent contract we couldn't pull the trigger. How logical.

Re: Skins Re-sign the Rock
You know the more I look at the off season, special teams has quietly become a real strength on our team heading into next season. Good signings so far and if Pac man comes on board he can compete with Morton on returns. Is Hall healthy? Not sure but I like what I see on special teams overall. Any thoughts?

Re: Skins Re-sign the Rock
SKINZ DOMIN8...Obviously you don't understand the improtance of DEPTH on a roster.

We offered Smoot a "decent contract". We offered him a very fair contract actually, but he got more $$$ elsewhere. For once we didn't overpay somebody. As for Rock being "overhyped": Huh? Since when has Rock ever been hyped at all? I don't understand what possible problem you could have with re-signing a long time skin who has been a solid special teams player and gives us some depth at RB/FB. It's not like the guy is going to get a $5 million signing bonus or something. We've gotten everything we could have asked for out of a 6th round draft pick and then some over the years, so what's the problem here? |

Who overhyped Rock? I would really like to know. Do you ever post anything logical? |

How logical.[/QUOTE]We all will probably agree that lossing Smoot hurt a bit but the time has come that we show discipline in our contract negotiations. Its just to bad we did not show this discipline when we signed those players in the past and we all know which players I'm talking about. Rock is not the most talented player on the field but he plays hard and gives it his all and earns his pay check every week. If we could say that every player on our team did this (I mean earn what they are being paid) we would have won alot more games over the past few years

Re: Skins Re-sign the Rock
Come on, who doesn't like Rock. And seriously, you're going to bitch about our third-string back? Get real, Rock rules.
|
Re: Skins Re-sign the Rock
rock has the best football name on the team... the only one that tops it (off the top of my head) is joe washington... or possibly dick butkus ;)_

Re: Skins Re-sign the Rock
Let me suggest - ever so gently of course - that the appearance of a thread on a Redskins' website announcing and praising and glorying in the resigning of a never-used running back who is also a good-but-not-outstanding kick coverage team member MIGHT be considered overhyping.
Rock Cartwright will not embarrass the Redskins if they keep him on special teams; he hustles and works hard. By the same token, if the Redskins make the playoffs and win a game in the playoffs this year, it will not be on the basis of a season-long monumental effort on Cartwright's part. His signing may make some folks here feel good but it is inconsequential. |
