Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
As a Redskins fan, I was glad to have Gibbs, Vinny and Dan come out and try to clarify some of the rumors and misrepresentations of the media, but as an NFL fan I would be sitting back saying, why 3 days before the draft is the Redskins "brass" taking an hour out of prep time addressing rumors? There are rumors in every NFL city, but I don't see any other teams out there trying to clear up what may or may not be going on..
I would almost like a Belichek type parinoia of the media and Gibbs be one voice for the organization. That would shut up the Pastabellys and some of the clowns at the Post if their information sources were shut off. |
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
I think Cerrato's statements lately have been purposely contradicting Gibbs' lately. I think the three of them (Snyder Gibbs Cerrato) are trying to be as confusing as possible. They don't want to let anyone get a bead on their true plans for this draft. Intentional smokescreens.

This was my thought... The things coming from Vinnie's mouth are so asinine that there is no way Gibbs could possibly be putting up with it unless it is contrived. Maybe they are just having fun leading the media around by its nose. Or belly in Pastabelly's case. |
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
Not Rabbit ears!
Sensitive skin! Everyone in the FO is on the same page, reading the same lines, but it all comes out different everytime! Then, they get utterly sensitive about how it shakes out in the press! The Press is all good! That is what makes our beloved B&G the most valuable Sports franchise in the entire World! |
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
In other NFL towns and NFL teams the rumors aren't frontpage NFL news MSN and Fox Sports websites. There's a difference between message board and blog chatter and campaigns to start nasty rumor mills.
Is it just me or does it seem the media has an axe to grind with Vinny C? |
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
King, obviously you have never lived in Pittsburgh because they are just as nuts about the Steelers and rumors as the skins fans & media are.
This organization is in total disarray. They are spinning their wheels and it seems like they will never get traction. The front office cant make up its mind and the players (Portis, LA, Taylor, etc) seems uninterested, at best, or just plain idiots, at worst. It gets harder and harder to be a fan of this team. Hopefully this trend will turn around by August but I'm not going to hold my breath. |
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
I wouldn't go so far as to say total disarray. 99% of all players are participating in the offseason workouts. The problem is, the headlines don't say, "Offseason Workouts Going Great for Skins". Typically most news is bad news. I would definitely agree with what Gibbs has said in saying that we are on the lower end of teams with personnel problems. It's all about taking what the media says with a grain of salt until we hear the facts (or semblance of).
|
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
they may be on the same page, but they are being portrayed like total idiots...it amazes me that they would waste time having all these press conferences and news releases, when there are more mounting issues at hand, ie the draft.
they certainly do not have to defend themselves to Peter King, Pastabelly, La Canfora, Wise, and Demasio...if they are solid in what they are doing, they would have no reason to come out every day this week and make a comment. so, this leads me to believe they have the "deer in the headlights" look, and Plans A, B, C, D and Final have been flushed... |

I'm not sure about the "deer in headlights" look, nor have I heard any flushing sounds emanating from Redskins Park. One or three disgruntled players do not a team make! And, it is not July, or September yet! The season is still not quite here! |
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
When those 3 disgruntled players are 3 of the best on the team they can have a huge negative effect. Anything can happen in todays NFL but it seems more & more like the redskins are closer to being AZ or Cinn than NE or Philly. It makes me want to barf when I say that.

Did I miss something? I did not know Portis was a digruntled player. All teams have disgruntled players and they are usualy the top players because the middle to lower echelon players do not have the leverage knowing that they can be replaced. We have to remember that this is the week before the draft and teams say and do weard things not to show their cards. We can only wait and see how this pans out befor jumping to any conclusions. I know if we didn't jump to any conclusions we would have little to talk about.LOL |

I assume he was referring to Moss, Arrington and Taylor. |
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
Disgruntled is likely not the correct adjective to describle CP, maybe 'hardly interested' or 'idiot' would fit better. He is in the sports page today talking about how rough its been for ST this past season ans he needs a break from football. A break from football?! ST has been on break since Jan 3 because the team didnt make the playoffs. If anything he needs to get back to Ashburn and get into football. CP was also quoted as telling ST these worlouts are a waste of time and nothing is going on. Some team leader. He should have told ST to get up here so we can work together and win a championship.

Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
But are Taylor and Moss really missing anything? You know, all they're doing is lifting weights. It's not like they're out there conducting practices. The offseason program is strength training and agility training. They're not allowed to get out and have organized football practices.
Gibbs just wants the players there for team unity, which I can understand. But as long as the guys are working out, can't they get the team unity when they report to training camp? I'd start getting worried if they missed training camp, but not these workouts. It's no big deal. The only thing is that it would be nice if Moss and Ramsey would get together on their own, like Harrison and Manning do in the offseason, to really really get in synch. |
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
Exactly. I'd prefer if they were there, but at least they are working out. Does that mean I'd want ANOTHER Miami product next season? I'll pass. BUT, we definitely don't have as much controversy as other teams. It's just THIS is the controversy we care about.
|
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
Malcolm, could you please clue me in on what teams have more controversy than the skins?
Also, when dedicated fans (like the one on this site) cage their arguements with "but at least" or "but as long as", then its obvious all is not well in redskinland. |
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
Just a few examples are teams like the Titans, Seahawks, Raiders, Eagles... There are too many to count.
|
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
I agree that every team has personnel issues they are dealing with at draft time but what I want to know is what teams have the combo of player problems and FO cross-talk. I really think there are none as screwed up as the skins are right now..
|
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
It may just be me, but I'm not really going to judge until the MANDATORY workouts happen and we'll see who shows up. I'm disappointed Taylor isn't there and pissed that Moss isn't there. I feel Moss is the real problem. He is simply contract-based. Arrington's stuff will blow over like usual and I think that Taylor will show up no questions asked.
Personally I'd hate to be in the Eagles situation more than anything. |
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
You know, if you are respected, you can't really sneak up on people can you? Gibbs is a smart guy....maybe he is using this to his advantage, as in if the other teams perceive us a joke, they will not prepare as hard when it comes time to play, and we will win more games and become this years "surprise team." Just a thought...
As for Moss and Taylor, it is dissappointing, but nothing to really worry about. Now when the miss madatory workouts or minicamp, that's a different story. |
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
Look at the Chargers last year...
They didn't play AMAZING defense like we do and had less "weapons" on offense than we do. What is the difference between us and them? |

Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
Yup.... no difference at all. :)
I like our chances. |
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
Folks:
The media is not out to get the Redskins or the Redskins' FO. Imagine for a moment a situation where: 1. Andy Reid announces that he really wants 100% participation in the voluntary off season sessions from the Eagles. [Gibbs did that; no one had a gun in his mouth forcing him to do that.] 2. Eagles' FO has an arbitration hearing on a grievance staring them in the face from Brian Dawkins - - their perennial All-Pro defender. [Skins have that happening.] 3. Terrell Owens wanted out of his contract and the Eagles' FO found a way to delay the process such that it cost them the maximum salary cap hit for the team AND then traded him for a lesser WR who is holding out to get a new contract. [Compare and contrast with LC and S. Moss.] 4. Voluntary workouts are held and 3 Eagles decide to skip the sessions and work out on their own and their names are McNabb, Kearse and Westbrook. [I know they aren't all "working out together with their buds in Miami" like the Skins' absentees are, but think about it...] Don't you think the media would be asking the question, "What the hell are those people doing there in Philly?" Well, that's not so far off from what's been going on here. Except the Eagles have been in the Super Bowl and/or the NFC Championship Game for the last four years while the Redskins have been sitting at home with their thumbs up their collective butts for the last four Januarys. As Ricky Ricardo used to say to Lucy, this FO here has a "lot of 'splainin to do". |

Redskins: One playoff appearance in 14 years. Yes, the Eagles sound in dire straights. It must have been awful to have been an Eagle fan these last few years. |

And honestly... how many people would read (or believe) an article like "offseason workouts going great for skins"? It wouldn't sell newspapers like "Arrington blames staff for physical woes" or "Snyder Threatens Coles with Season Long Benching". Ho-Hum feel good stories do not generate the interest or debate that muckraking, half-truth/half-rumor stories will stir. |
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
Exactly.
|
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
Based on the last 4 years, any controversy surrounding the Eagles would, to me, be much easier to swallow.
The Redskins on the otherhand have done nothing in 14 years and all this FO wheel-spinning and player whining gets very hard to put up with. The bottom line is the Redskins are now viewed league wide as a joke and are very heavily mortgaged against the good will of their increadibly loyal fans. They better win and they better do it quick or else their fans may foreclose on that mortgage. |
Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
We Redskins fans die incredibly hard. I really don't know what it would take for me to stop being a freak about them.

As did I. Living through that can desensitize you to almost any pain!

Re: Redskins Front Office Have Rabbit Ears?
LongTimeSkinFan:
I don't understand. Are you saying that Arrington never bitched about how he has been treated by the team relative to his injury or that Snyder never threatened Coles with being benched and deactivated? Which half of those stories was not the truth? For the record, I absolutely do NOT believe that Arrington's recovery process was impaired in any way by the Skins' trainers/medical folks either intentionally or unintentionally. But Arrington DID lash out at them. Or was the "half-rumor" part of the story that Arrington and Gibbs had a closed door meeting the next day to smooth things over... For the record, even Danny Boy and his spin-controllers in the PR department have not bothered to deny his contentious exchanges with Coles or the "watch the games at home on a flat screen" remark. If you think the Washington press is tough on the Skins, you really ought to read the NY tabloids, the Boston papers and the Philly papers when dumb things happen with regard to their home teams. It really is a walk in the park here... |

I'm upset that we make Pasta Belly look good with his inside scoop of the Skins.......whose the mole in the Redskin organization..............
Anyone for the newest reality series.......find the Redskin mole? |
