Our Secondary

So DHall and Ihenacho are both on IR. That's bad. Very bad. So Chase Minnifield is coming up. Any news on whether Phillip Thomas is ready to come back to the 53 man roster? We have really been crushed on the back end of this defense.

Anyone have thoughts about whether there's anyone else out there who is worth signing?

OK for this to be merged with the thread on DHall. Up to the mods.

We'll go with this thread, I'll close the other one.

Champ Bailey worth any thing at this point?

I would not have a problem with a vet min signing.

Along with Minnifield on board, bring Crawford and Thomas and will be just fine, granted they are healthy and ready to play.

Sucks that Hall is out for the year but this is going to give these young guys a chance to play. Also we might have to give Rambo a call :(

Re: Our Secondary

We only have 52 active players on the roster as of right now which tells me another move is pending.

Time to say goodbye and move on, his days as a Redskin are over especially with an achilles injury.

Re: Our Secondary

Some of the young guys are going to have to step up. Not much else to hope for, this year anyway.

Merriwether sucking at FS hurts a lot too. He was like the more expensive version of Rambo out there. And he's a marked man for hits. Useless.

I can't agree with you that we'll be just fine. Minnifield is overly aggressive and has gotten burned in preseason. Crawford is not fully recovered, IMO, and has not yet regained his speed and quickness. I really don't know about Thomas. On the other hand, what else can we do?

Have details and a timeline on Henacho's injury been released?

Crawford should be getting healthier, he's had an extra month to rest. I like the kid, wouldn't hurt to have him as reserve.

Is Reid Doughty still unsigned? Perhaps we bring him in a the vet min to help at safety.

I like Crawford, too. I think he could help us if he's close to 100%.

Bummed about Hall and what it could mean for him long term. Tough injury to come back from for a guy on the wrong side of 30.

Yup.

I wonder if we'll have Amerson shadow their #1 and swap sides to do so. No one else on the roster is gonna stick with the likes of Dez Bryant and others like him.

calia 09-22-2014 06:58 PM

Re: Our Secondary

Hall really shut down Dez last year. We will really miss him, even though so far 2014 wasn't appearing to be as strong a campaign.

Time to move on and step up. Was gonna happen sooner or later.

Paging David Amerson, we're ready for your close-up.

I actually think Amerson makes the step, and Breeland might surprise. Pretty excited to see several young talents stepping up.

Re: Our Secondary

Isn't Amerson in danger of getting suspended for a game? Maybe I heard wrong

Minnifield has yet to really prove that he's ready. I have faith in him, like what I've seen. But some of us need to put aside our hatred of DeAngelo Hall before we act like we won't miss a beat with the upcoming changes at DB. I think more than ever Orakpo and the rest of that front 7 needs to step up.

Po hasn't impressed at all. Kerrigan is clearly a better player. I've been impressed with the LBs for the most part.

i think Thomas may need to get the call and I'm not sure about Breeland. I like Amerson but Hall was far and away our best player in the secondary. He acted like an ass way too much but he's the closest we have to an elite corner.

Gary84Clark 09-22-2014 11:28 PM

Re: Our Secondary

They better not call Rambo, you can't teach hitting. Rambo is scared of contact. Breeland on the other will tackle you. He can learn technique but he will pop you, that's natural.

I think Amerson and Breeland are our starters for the future. And Amerson was throwing punches Smoot, so he might be.

I'm more concerned about their injuries and the fact that they were pretty much neutralized by the Iggles make shift o-line.

Re: Our Secondary

At this point, I think it would be wise if Hall transitioned to FS. Achilles tears are tough to recover from, and considering his age and position, I'm not sure he can recover and be the same player he was....

Ryan Clark knows what he's doing. He recognizes the play in front of him. Alas, he has lost at least a step. Against Philly, he knew what to do but he just couldn't always get there to make the plays. Still, he's a short-term upgrade over what we had at that position.

It's unlikely he'll even get a look from the FO. He's been vocal about his support of a name change.

That's not exactly a thrill since he looked like crap in the very short time he played in preseason.

Re: Our Secondary

It's our front 7 that is going to be the issue. IF they can generate pressure, the back won't matter as much. If they can't, we are up shit creek. This past week they generated little to no pressure on Foles with several of the Eagles starting OL out. That's a issue.

Meks 09-23-2014 12:52 PM

Re: Our Secondary

They had pressure, philly just gameplanned to get the ball out in 3-4 seconds 85% of the time. I dont care who u are its hard to sack a guy that fast. .. we beat foles up a decent amount, little to no pressure is a near sighted remark
