Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
With all of these rumors spiraling out of control now. I want to point out a few things that I've heard. First of all, I heard there's a fair chance LaVar could be dealt on draft day...no way it would happen, but I think stranger things have happened. Second, the whole Jason Campbell thing. Third, that they could move up in the 1st to select Edwards.
I can assure you all...if they do those I'll be going on a tirade on this site again. You can chalk it up to just another one of my rants, but I'm starting to get sick of team turmoil. I hate Dan Snyder and I hate Vinny Cerrato. I think Ramsey could be a great qb and I don't hide the fact that he's one of my favorite players on the team...as is Arrington. Anyway, should they select Campbell I will probably hate Gibbs too. That would leave me liking Portis, some of the O Line, none of the D Line, the LBs, Springs and Taylor. I like Patten, but he's not that good...kinda like McCants...they don't really matter. As I'm moving to New Orleans anyway, it may be time for a new team. Thanks Dan Snyder for all you've brought to Washington. |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
I am a redskins fan and i like all redskins if they never win a game this coming year i would still root for the skins and any child i have will be thoroughly brainwashed to like the skins.

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
You tell him, dad! :oink:
|
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
lol...sadly...as will I. In spite of my efforts. I'm just really fed up right now and I don't know what's going to happen if they do something profoundly stupid this weekend.
|
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
It's hard to imagine them doing anything that would not qualify as "profoundly stupid" at this point. At the rate that they're going, they'll have last place in the division wrapped up by June!
|
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
maybe being last in the division in june is better than winning the division off season spokes model competition weve been winning since dan snyder repalces the kent cookes?

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
I live in SW Florida. Naturally, I have to work a little harder than some to get my fix for Skin's info. I was listening to a local sports guy (who is real good) who says strong rumor that Miami will trade DE Jason Taylor and their #2 pick for both of Washington's first rounders-Interesting

We all know that the cap hit is to great especially with us swallowing Coles cap hit in 1 lump this season, but a man can dream can't he! :headbange |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
Guys, guys.......let's just relax for two more days. Agreed, if they do the things jdlea fears, we will all be ranting for months to come about how stupid they are. In fact, if they trade Arrington (they won't) I'll be absolutely inconsolable. But I'm willing to wait and actually see what happens first. I wouldn't put TOO much stock in any of the rumors flying around about the skins yet.

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
i think jason campbell would be a excellent choice...i hope we get em
if ramsey never catches on, we need somebody... brunell? hasslebeck? lol campbell would be a great pick. great long ball thrower and decent scrambling and over 60% CP. im open arms. and if we move up to get braylon... then great, ive said all winter and spring that i want to get ramsey a elite wr to give him no more excuses. and if we keep both picks, then great as well, but only if we get a DE out of it, like pollack or tuck with #25 |

I am not as sold on Ramsey as jdlea. Yeah is is a nice guy, but that is not enough. Gibbs has always drafted and developed QB's, even when we had a good one on our team. |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
I'm too young to remember Gibbs's first tenure...so my support for him could die this weekend.
|
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
Hang in there, man! You gotta stick it out. When we do win again, it is going to be very sweet. Rant away--that's what this board is for, no doubt. But you gotta stick with the burgundy and gold. The worm will turn. It's darkest befor dawn. If it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger. (Insert cliche here :))

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
JWSleep:
If it indeed is darkest just before dawn, why didn't the sun come up after Jeff George left town? :Flush: |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
Do you smell that? It smells like a fair weather fan.....someone open a window real quick!!

I havent seen anything to give truth to this rumor, but thats very intriguing. We would get an elite wide receiver, and elite end, and a second round pick to get a corner, which are very deep in this draft. I acutally like that idea, IF we get a second. Well, even if we didtn get a second, jason taylor is a stud. |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
I'm hoping for a good Wide Receiver and Cornerback out of this draft. I'm also eager to see what happens with Rod Gardner...never know what we might get out of him....

Bobby Beatherd drafted the QB's not Gibbs, so far Gibbs has shown no eye for talent when it comes to aquiring a QB, and if he drafts Campbell it will continue. |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
JDlea, you moving to New Orleans and maybe looking for a new team? Dont do either one. I live in New Orleans and the Saints might not be here in a few years. I have lived here most of my life and have been a Skins fan for 30 yrs it WILL work out better than the Saints lol.

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
Whoa. I get on after work and this is what happens.
I'm a Redskins fan whether they never win another game again. My future generations will ALSO be brainwashed into thinking the same way. I wish the draft would hurry and happen so that HOPEFULLY we can be like, "Whew, I was afraid something crazy was going to happen." |

Im a diehard fan but I know where you're coming from. A guy can only stand to watch such bufoonery for so long.

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
BTW, Campbell scored a 16 on the wonderlic test (IQ) well below what the average QB scores. I remember a mobile, strong armed kid we drafted named Shuler who also tanked his IQ test. Maybe it takes a bit of smarts to be a QB in the NFL.
Wouldn't mind seeing Alex Smith slide down. A kid with a strong arm, accuracy, mobility, a 3.76 in Economics and graduated in 2 years.... I can dream |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
i was a arrington supporter, i just think if he eats his cap penalty i wouldn't mind him getting outa here
I WILL NEVER DENOUNCE MY LOVE OF THE SKINS, EVEN IF CHANGE OUR NAME TO THE COWBITCHES AND OUR TEAM CONSISTS OF A COLONY OF BRUNNELS |

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
TAFKAS:
Indeed the Wonderlic is not the total answer to QB-prowess, But Akili Smith also scored somewhere in the mid-teens and he never seemed to "get it" with regard to what a QB needs to do in the NFL. You need brains and brawn to do that job and if you are really dumb, you damned well have some outlandish physical skills to compensate for that - - a la Marino. |

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
I am a diehard Redskins fan. I was Dexter Manley for Halloween when I was 5, I live for training camp every summer, I have got in several fights at parties with Eagles fans over shit they have said about our team, and I am probably going to fail a bio test because of the draft, but it is getting hard to deal with this shit every year. I appricate everything Gibbs is trying to do, but if the team continues to have devistating offseasons he is going to be gone soon too. I just cannot understand what is going through the heads of the front office. I won't change teams anytime soon, but if things keep going like this I could see why people would.

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
We should also keep in mind that there are a lot of smokescreens at this time of year and we shouldn't just believe every rumor we read as gospel
|
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
I agree there are a lot of smoke screen at this time of the year, but when you hear that the 49ers have been talking to different teams about trading down, iwith the team most interested being the redskins.. U HAVE TO ASK WHAT IS THE FO SMOKING!!! C'mon guys we need a couple of playmakers not ONE!!
This is the most exasperated I have been. I respect Gibbs a lot, but I see the team disintegrating a little bit and spiralling out of control.. I hope some sanity is restored once the season starts!!
We should also keep in mind that there are a lot of smokescreens at this time of year and we shouldn't just believe every rumor we read as gospel
|
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
honestly, i'm hopeful of an 8-8 record this season... wow. Worst... offseason... ever.

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
It seriously isn't as bad as everyone is saying...

The first that Ive heard about the new Madden is that its main feature will be making QB awareness relevant. There will be a shadow on the field that your QBs line of sight, if your manning itll be the whole field, If your plummer its very narrow. Just thought I would throw that out there. |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
we are in severe withdraw, usually half the roster has been changed by now, the post never misses a chance to stick it to the skins and pasquali from espn is the same.the sports reporters think the know better than anyone and clearly have an attitude against even the coach. guys, we can only wait and see. the nay sayers are many
but we are not one of them. i believe that cb rogers is ours, after that i'm not sure. |

Offis check your facts before you yell NO! It was Gibbs who recruited and asked to get Doug Williams. Gibbs was soley responsible for getting Williams. Gibbs coached Williams early in his career and they were friends. Doug Williams had a little bit of talent wouldn't you say? He did take us to the super bowl and he was the MVP of that SuperBowl. Gibbs also scouted all the QB and gave the final ok before Beathard or Casserly (sure would be nice to have them back) pulled the trigger on any QB. Gibbs heavily scouted and gave his blessing on Rypien and Stan Humphries. Drafting Campbell would not be so bad. We need a back up plan if Ramsey does not pan out. |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
I say go ahead and jump ship fellas if you choose to do so....but with saying that, don't come back in another year telling us how loyal you are! Gibbs and Co. will make this team a winner before he is done.

As far as Rypien and Humphries, they were average QBs that had 1, maybe 2 good seasons. Gibbs has a knack to work with lesser talent QBs and making them adapt to the system. QB Wise, our bed is made. We just resigned Hasselback, Brunell has his restructured contract, and Gibbs has already named Ramsey the starter. Ramsey has been in the system for a year. Guys like Rypien and Humphries spent 2, 3, 4 years on the sideline before jumping into the fray, which gave them all that time to learn the system. Ramsey is learning as he goes, and it takes time to learn Gibbs' offense. I think drafting Campbell would be a mistake, especially when we have other pressing needs. |

If people bail on the Skins like they are talking about, I'll be sitting 20 rows up on the 50 yd line in not time!!!!!

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
What you all don't seem to understand is that I am a realist. You have to take a look at this team. People say Dan Snyder spends money to win...what have they won? I could understand if Gibbs let Smoot and Pierce go this offseason because he wanted to build "his team." However, he called them core Redskins and tried to keep em...didn't happen. This offseason has been a disaster. All they had to do was keep a few people and shut up. Instead Cerrato comes out saying he was misquoted on the Skins web site. Everybody gets mad and leaves because the O they ran last year is stiffling the talent we have. Portis defends everyone but Ramsey. Arrington complains publicly. Coles does too. And everyone blames the players?! No. I've said for a long time this is the worst organization in football. Sometimes I hate to love them.
Sometimes...just sometimes...I want a divorce. I could live with them taking Campbell because it's one of the more sane scenarios I've heard. Last night on the ESPN draft special somebody said the Skins contacted the Niners about moving up to 1 so they could select Alex Smith...are you kidding me? I've never been this confused in my life. What the hell is going on? What has happened this whole offseason? It seems like this team is out of control to me. I mean think about it. Gibbs comes to restore discipline. 2 players this offseason lash out against the club and one gets sent away. One of the ones we get doesn't come to voluntary workouts and niether does the guy who should have won defensive rookie of the year. Hell, Taylor won't even return their phone calls. Kind of a punk move, but I told my brother last night, you reap what you sew. I have no faith in this team's front office because I'm a realist. As for me being a fair weather fan...fair weather fans usually come and go when the team is up and down. FYI this team has been down for years. If I were a fair weather fan, I don't think I would have stuck with them this long. I will also continue to stick with them, I pretty much started this thread to vent. I'm pretty pissed about this offseason and I blame one man, Dan Snyder. At least when they were bad they were still quasi-respected for what they did in the past. People barely remember that now because we have one of the worst owners in all of professional sports. Oh yeah, one last note, maybe you should accuse the guys who want Arrington, Portis, and any other star on the team who has a bad year of being a fair weather fan. |
