Jason Campbell
I don't think we will draft Jason Campbell for a couple reasons. 1) is I don't think Gibbs is too worried about down the road considering all the financial problems we will be in and there is almost no way to avoid. 2) If we draft Campbell we will have 4 quarterbacks on the team and I don't know too much about the cap but we would probably cut burnell and I think there's almost no way we can afford that. 3) Why would we draft a couple days before the draft to get a quarterback that may not even be there at 25?
There may be answers to this but I personally don't think we will draft him. I hope we get mike williams with the first pick and a defensive player with the second, or even one of the cornerbacks with the first pick and heath miller with the second to open up options from the tight end position. |
Jason Campbell
With the 25th pick.
Jump ship if you choose...the pick is good with me |

Re: Jason Campbell
Not much of a surprise to me. I figured he would be here. I like the pick, gonna put some good motivation into P. Ramsey this season. Now the question is, how long will Ramsey be here.
|
Re: Jason Campbell
Yep, this confirms it ... the FO is smoking crack. I'm not sure that I agreed with their first pick, but it least it made some sense. This may be the stupidest thing they've done since, well, it hasn't been too long (Goodbye to Coles, Pierce, Smoot, etc.). Campbell may be a wonderful player, but they need another quarterback like a bear needs toilet paper ...
|
Re: Jason Campbell
i'm not upset but i'm not happy either. i'm kinda confused. i thuoght the skins would goin a different direction.
|
Re: Jason Campbell
I do think its a good idea to add depth everywhere...but I don't think this draft was one in which we had the luxury of drafting for depth. We still have needs at WR, TE, and DE...and few draft picks to fill them. In my opinion it was a wasted pick, especially with Heath Miller, Dan Cody, and Roddy White still on the board...especially since we don't have a second rounder.
|
Re: Jason Campbell
I don't like this pick....if they were gonna get a QB, I really thought they would have traded back to round 2 or later. Maybe they tried, but couldn't get a good offer...
Hopefully, Patrick will step up and we will have a quality back-up QB, plus the washed up veteran. Bye-bye Tim! |
Re: Jason Campbell
Now what's the depth chart? Do you put your second first round pick at #3? Or do you put $43 million at #3? Joe says that Ramsey is the starter, but I don't know.
Joe Gibbs pretty much lied when he said that they were going to get Ramsey some weapons. It wasn't a smoke screen. It was right before the draft. I saw this coming, so I'm not even furious. It's what I expected. I don't know what they're thinking, personally. |
Re: Jason Campbell
On the plus side, however, I hate me some Tim Hasselbeck. So good riddance.

If Ramsey comes to play, he'll be here ahile. If not, how many more years do you want to go with him? Janson put it best, its Ramseys shot this year....its his 4th year. Step up and take over this team. If he cant, I am sure glad we have a little insurance now |
Re: Jason Campbell
what picks do we have left?
|
Re: Jason Campbell
Seriously, I do not know what people think when it comes to this FO. But no one should be surprised. They never do what you think there gonna do. Kinda funny how a lot of people bought into the whole smoke screen thing. I think Gibbs doesn't really trust Ramsey and is bringing in a qb that threw for 60% completion percentage.
|
Re: Jason Campbell
And we can't dump brunell. I'm not pleased, and it makes the FO look like goons: targeting a guy before the draft, alowing it to get out (to pastabelly, no less) what they were going to do, and then going into paranoid, nixon-style leak control--wow. And now we have a brewing QB controversy, no new wideout, no 1st rounder next year, and we get the ass-clown FO award of the year.
BUt just imagine if Aaron Rogers hadn't slipped and Green Bay picked Campbell. Wow. NO wonder GIbbs looked so tense when he went on TV after #9. They got very lucky, assuming this was their goal all along. |

Umm, last I checked, we had two new wide-outs for this year in Moss and Patten... |
Re: Jason Campbell
I don't doubt this guy is a great QB - didn't he just lead Auburn undefeated, plus they had a very good running game (so similarilites there), HOWEVER coming into this draft our offence needed a shot in the arm.
Adding a QB that will sit on the bench (providing Gibbs is true to his word that this is Ramseys team this year) doesn't seem like an idea to add points on the board!!! Are we gonna carry 4 QBs ? ... Ramsey - given the job by Gibbs Campbell - just drafted Brunell - can't afford to get rid of him Hasselbeck - 'cus of his wife! Maybe it will all work out and we'll win 12 next year, but passing on Mike Williams to me was a HUGE mistake and taking a QB in round 1 when we have other bigger needs is another (not to mention the other mistakes in this offseason). Our FO used to be joked about for being an easy few extra mill on a contract, now its just a joke. Without a pick until round 4 (thanks to trading this years 3rd to Denver in the trade to get Campbell) we are gonna struggle to add players to REALLY make waves on our team next season - and with the way things our going I see us drafting Clarett!!!! With the Moss/Taylor stuff as well as everything else, watching this years offseason for the skins is almost as bad as watching our offence last season! |
Re: Jason Campbell
This pick is utter incompetence! We give up 3 pick's including our #1 next year, [which after seeing this pick I have concluded will be a very high pick because Gibbs is insane] for a mediocre QB that is NOT 1st round material, who was going to draft this kid if we didn't? This kid isn't McNabb, McNair, Culpepper, Leftwich, and here's the scary part I don't believe he's even Aaron Brooks.
Gibbs is like a moth to the flame when it comes to QB's he can't help himself. He killed us with Brunell last year, and now we give away next years draft to move into the first round to pick a player who wouldn't be drafted until the second. Say what you want but I was right about brunell last year and i will be right about this kid as his future unfolds, but don't worry we will trade him for a conditional 6th or 7th rd. pick in 3 year's. Although this may be a ploy to help Patrick feel more comfortable and secure about his starting role, now we have no backups, no wonder he was so understanding when he was told we were drafting Campbell, it was also a good job by us to resign Hasselbach! Kind of reminds me of the McCants resigning last year, resign him and then sit Patricks favorite target on the bench, that is when he was active, it's not like a pattern is forming or anything. :banghead:  |
Re: Jason Campbell
Right, I meant drafted WR. Fair enough. It's just I was hoping for another. Oh, well. YOu don't win without a QB, and if Ramsey either goes down or fails to reach the next level, we are truly screwed. So now we've got QB depth. Hope it works out.
As for the FO--was this worth the picks? |

I see them having him carrying the clipboard for at least 2 seasons. Finally the RIGHT way to bring on a QB. |

Totally agree flyfischer.......QB wasn't an area of urgent need.......we could have picked a WR or gotten some help on defense............I was thinking about some of the same players that were still available. Not a happy camper. |

Agreed 100%. And if Ramsey turns into the QB a lot of us think he could be, then a decision will have to be made on Campbell down the road. |
Re: Jason Campbell

With all due respect, an untested rookie does not add any sort of meaningful depth. The only sort of "depth" that drafting another QB adds is providing another warm body to play in emergencies; we've already got two of those. If Ramsey gets hurt or "fails to reach the next level," can we really expect a rookie to step up and perform any better than the two other back-ups? Besides, aren't we already paying enough for "depth" with Brunell's contract? |
Re: Jason Campbell
We could've waited till the 4th round and taken Adrian McPherson. Who I am absolutely in love with. I think he made a mistake, but it's not that big a deal. This is weak.
|
Re: Jason Campbell
What happens to Rod Gardner now? Should we keep him? We need a big WR, and he may be the best option left. Can we get a 3rd rounder next year for him?
|
Re: Jason Campbell
WOW...with the guys still on the board, I really really wish we had a second round pick...
|
Re: Jason Campbell
I really wish we had just stayed in the third round and not wasted 3 picks to move into the bottom of the first for a position we didn't even need.

I agree, actually. I was just trying to spin it from the FOs (twisted) perspective. Obviously, if PR goes down this year, it won't be Campbell. But the year after, if PR fails to grow, we might see Campbell. BUt I'm with you. I was pulling for a WR there... |
Re: Jason Campbell
I was thinking D End. However, they apparently don't like getting a pass rush from the front 4.
|
Re: Jason Campbell
im not jumping ship, im just hella confused as to why we had to take a player at a position that isn't a big priority. why? if patrick is gonna be our starting quarterback, why take another one. we still need help at wideout. hasn't anyone thought what might happen if santana moss holds out during the regular season over his contract. maybe they are trying to motivate ramsey to be great during the season. maybe they are trying to trade ramsey. there were still some good receivers left in the draft. there were still some de's still available.
|
Re: Jason Campbell
Campbell is a great qb. I think if this is the way we are going we need to trade Ramsey NOW. Commit to this change, and see if we can get a decent pick for Ramsey. Miami has a second now (from KC). Trade with them. NOW. Then trade Gardner for a 4th or 5th and start from scratch.
|
Re: Jason Campbell
Gentlemen, I've been watching many commercials concerning the draft. You know what they say? Draft deep. Yes, there are many studs that come in the first few rounds, but the later rounds also count for a whole lot. The draft is not over. Everything happens for a reason. Relax, everything has to work out, doesn't it?
|
Re: Jason Campbell
After having a little while to let this last pick settle in my mind I think I have come up with something that settles my mind (a little).
We COULD be sitting on this years "Chargers", a long time QB project being pushed by a 1st rounder QB during his contract year - hopefully Ramsey plays the "Brees" part of this. The Chargers weren't exacty loaded at WR last year, but had a good running game (see Portis) and a very good TE (see Cooley), plus our D is better than San Diegos. A turnaround like the Chargers would be most welcome. I've spoken to an Auburn fan and he says that Carlos Rogers is a good CB, quite possibly the best in this years draft, he does however take risks (big play potential, suits Williams schemes), hopefully we will have Taylors head sorted out to help out on that side during the year. |
Re: Jason Campbell
The problem is even though this draft is deep we don't have very many picks.......
|
Do you approve of the Jason Campbell pick?
Vote and discuss
|
Re: Do you approve of the Jason Campbell pick?
don't know. If they suck next year, Denver could get a high pick. Risky move
|
Re: Jason Campbell
Here's what ESPN said, "Campbell consistently held onto the ball too long, threw too many passes up for grabs when he ...". Did we really needed to give up our 3rd and next year's 1st (probably top 10 pick AGAIN) to get this guy?
|
Re: Jason Campbell
No way...an Auburn fan thinks an Auburn QB is the best in the draft...lol. In all seriousness, though, Jaws had him second. However, we didn't a QB.

No concerning the picks, but that's why he won't start for at least a couple years...so they can mold him into a better QB, which was never done with Ramsey like it should have been. |

That's funny, because if I were gonna knock Ramsey, that would be exactly what I would say. |

I never once mentioned the Auburn fan saying ANYTHING about Jason Campbell, in fact I mentioned him only saying about Carlos Rogers. |
