New Defensive Coordinator 2015
Hey folks, most intelligent people knew holding on to Haslett after last year was a tragic mistake and after another year of a burning heap of garbage we certainly will be looking for new guy this offseason. So tell me who would you like and who we should be watching during our favorite time of the year, the offseason.
Anybody from the current staff? My dream scenario is when Harbaugh is shown the door in San Fran, that we would back up a ton of money and give Vic Fangio complete control of the defensive side of the ball. Other names I would look at would be Wade Phillips and Kevin Coyle (if that Dolphins staff is let go). My second dream hire would be Rex Ryan, but I believe he will be back at HC rather quickly. Paul Guenther is a name that will be in the mix, kinda unsure about him. Thoughts? |
Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
Hey I found a quote this morning that pissed me off and inspired this thread. From our boy Baccardi Rambo when asked big difference between Skins and Bills staff: "(Bills)Coaches require you to watch film"
sigh |

sigh
Holy crap. It's little offhand comments like that, and Cooley's comments about pulling into Redskins Park during the week and nobody being there. This team is looking more and more like a joke. And I don't think it started with Gruden, or Shanahan. I think it's been going on a long time. |
Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
My wish would be Todd Bowles ( he's going nowhere unless is HC)
My realistic DC if/when he gets fired is Ron Rivera Alternate DC Ray Horton or Brian Baker |
Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
Wade Phillips

sigh
Rambo sucks. He got two picks and the entire Redskin fanbase thinks he's something special all of a sudden.? If he has to stay on the field for any length of time, he's going to get exposed. Also why didn't he watch film on his own time? It shouldn't be a requirement. If you're a pro and take your job seriously then you should already watch film. Obviously he didn't. |
Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
There will be plenty of capable DC's available. Problem is until the talent issue is addressed it won't make much of a difference who's calling the plays.

you would think...but. I know I was the type, like many I knew, who studied their text when they absolutely had too Film study should be hibitual for professionals, but for young guys(say less than 3-4 years) then I think a requirement is a good way to mold a player. Proof is in the pudding, Buffalo defense is flat ballin this season |

Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
I think we let guys go home with film and expect them to watch it, which is not a good idea. Rambo is in a different position then alot of guys with guaranteed money also. When practice is over nowadays you can't force guys to stay and watch, its against CBA rules. If we have guys that don't watch film, they should just be cut.

Yeah I agree Rambo sux, but my point was film study doesnt seem like a priority for our team. Cooley made the same point the week before...Its a problem. And one of those int literrally bounced into Rambo's hands |

Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
I hate that argument about talent because its simply not true. The coaches are supposed to develop the talent and they can't just assume that players are going to be professional.
I hope that they clean house on the defensive side. My pick for DC would be Ken Norton Jr., Jerry Gray, Leslie Frazier or Mike Singletary. |

Tackling has been better as well. I guess I think the front 7 has been playing to their potental, which means DL, LBs are in sync. Kerrigan is playing better than he has in the past. The back end is horrid and the coordination between the front 7 and the backend is bad as well. As for Haslett, yes he needs to go, he has been average at best, more often bottom half. Rex would be great, but dont know if he would come here. Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
Every name that has been mentioned in this thread as a prospective new DC sounds better to me than keeping Haslett. I really don't want a low key guy like Frazier or Phillips, though. I'd prefer an energetic leader like Rex Ryan or Mike Singletary.

Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
Clean house on the defensive side, let the new DC choose his staff.
New DC possibilities: Wade Philips Rex Ryan Vic Fangio |

But that statement is a burner if at all true. I have a hard time believing Shanahan didn't require film time. It seems like discipline and preparation has completely gone out the window since then. |

Would I be completely out of my mind to suggest Ray Lewis? He would be charismatic if nothing else. Yeah, I guess I'm nuts, but still...

Not to mention the fact that lewis has zero coaching experience. |
Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
Rex Ryan is probably going to end up on TV rather than coaching next season:

No one is sending Rambo to the pro bowl but with two games left he has more ints in one quarter of football than any player on the Redskins has all year. |
Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
Please no Phillips or Ryan.
We need to find a guy familiar with the modern game. Go with a young guy like Bowles. But it's bruce Allen, so he will hire a good ole boy. |

So you ok with Jim Hasslet coming back as long as we aquire more talent ? |
Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
We've tried making big free agent splashes, we've tried new coaching staff after new coaching staff, we've tried several different front office structures and staff. I just wish we had one stable patient vision to believe in.
I'd like to see someone come in clean house, bring in legitimate position coaches, trade any player of value, and slowly and methodically build a team through the draft over several years of steady improvement until we are a contender. I won't hold my breath |
Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
I would like to get Greg Williams as the DC or Rex Ryan as our HC . I not sure about Gruden at this point . He appears he isn't prepared to be a HC. We got it wrong with him. His offense doesn't fit RG3 and that's why he came here. Give me a Defensive minded head coach and bring in a OC like the Patriots OC Josh McDaniels to run the offense. He made Tebow better in Denver so maybe he can put a offense that RG3 can improve in. My ideal Situation is to hire Jim Harbaugh . I say we clean house and start from scratch .

I would love to have London Fletcher as our DC....he was a coach on the field....

No thank you. Coaching and playing the game are two completely different things. |

Didn't Josh get fired before Tebow actually started? Who is like Josh in the NFL? Because there is no way McDaniels leaves NE for the exact same position in Washington. Harbaugh is a good coach. Just not sure what he would be able to do with this team. That San Fran team had good players when he arrived. Plus the one thing about Harbaugh is he is not getting criticized enough for how bad Kaep has looked this year. He is supposed to be a QB genius. What about Trestman as an OC? |
