2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
I hope folks don't mind a new thread (and the other thread about the def coord was getting pretty big):
Callahan is our new o-line coach: Dianna Marie Russini @NBCdianna 15m15 minutes ago Bill Callahan as a offensive line coach is a great addition to the Redskins. Now will they draft a right tackle? And still nothing about the DC. Though I would imagine (and hope) that once the new DC is hired we'll have more position coaches hired. |
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
And here's a link:
Redskins reach deal with Cowboys assistant, per reports | Comcast SportsNet Washington Pretty important hire, specially after seeing how well the Cowpukes developed their o-line. |
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
This is another good hire and a step in the right direction... If they hire Fangio or Wade as the DC, I would be very happy with our new GM and Coaching Staff...
|
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
I'll be down for Fangio, Donatell and Brad Seeley as our DC, DB and ST coaches
|
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
great news
|
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
Callahan is a big hire for the skins. Weakens the Boys and will help Gruden as a HC. If they can pull Vic and Donatell, this is the best Redskins offseason since Gibbs came back.
|
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
Callahan is a great hire.
Still not convinced about Fangio. |
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
Alfmo and DY must pooping their pants with joy right now!
|
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
Great Hire.
Now we have taken two steps in the right direction. |
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
If the Redskins are going to develop RG3 or any other young QB, they need to have a better than average o-line. Given this, I think this is a significant hire this offseason.

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
i see this as a kinda lateral move in terms of coaching talent but probably something that had to be done.
lateral move in that i thought foerster was a very good O line coach. since 2010 he developed TW into a perennial probowler, lichensteiger's move to Center was flawless, got the most out of will montgomery when he was here .. not to mention he was the O line coach that got Alfmo the 2nd most yards in the NFL for 3 seasons. Foerster was probably the best position coach we had. had to be done in the sense that he was a hold over from Shanny's zone blocking scheme and we have a somewhat new approach to blocking now under gruden. |
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
If it makes us better, I'm all for it.
|
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
Damn that sure was fast with Callahan, nice move.

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
Love the hire

Callahan may have some ties to Bruce Allen from their days at Oakland :joecool:
I know this is partially tongue in cheek. But I'm fine with "previous ties" if it yields the best candidate. I don't think the Redskins could have done better in the O Line department based on what was available. Callahan's a very good coach. But if we pass up Wade Phillips or Vic Fangio to hire Joe Barry because of connections, I'mma break something. |
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
Callahan has proven to be an excellent coach of the kind of fat boys that McC hinted that we would be bringing in.

From Rich Tandler:
Very interesting. MT @NBCdianna: Vic Fangio's family resides in the Baltimore area and his children attend school in Maryland. #Redskins |

Rumor has it Foerster headed back to SF as OL coach.

I do not care how old LeBeau is, he is a winner. I wonder if LeBeau would come and coach our DB's? I am tired of Radio Raheem. Even if it was for a year or two he would better develop the young talent we will be getting soon. |
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
Yeah the longer this goes on the better the news is re: us not hiring Joe Barry.

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
I welcome this hire. Chris Foerster, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I was gonna say something about that too. Think this is the death knell for Shanahan's blocking scheme here, and I'm ok with that. Forester produced terrible lines, Callahan will get our line to be a power blocking scheme. That's a good thing. I tell you right now, Polumbus will NOT be on this team this year, and maybe our RT won't just watch the rushers head to the qb while offering them a bagel. |

You would think that our pass pro will improve. Let's hope it is not at the expense of the running game. |

2012 - No 1 in rushing 2013 - no 5 in rushing 2014 - 18 or so I feel like all the hate on here for him is due to Polumbus sucking for 10 games or so and RG3 having the highest sack rate ever in the history of the NFL. Doesnt he get credit for making compton a serviceable RT? credit for Lich transition to center? Does he get absolutely no consideration for '12 and '13 success? did he give birth to Polumbus or sign him as our RT? Is it his fault RG3 drops back 10 steps when the O line play call is for 3 steps? --------------------- I think Foerster had to be replaced bc of the change in running scheme .. but damn, we are a mean bunch of fans. i think mob mentality is making him a scapegoat to an extent here. i think he did a great job with the talent he had to work with. |

1,731 yards and 16 TDs in 2015 |

I wouldn't be surprised if we drafted Gurley as a one-two punch with Morris in the power running game.

Yeah, he may be a scapegoat due to the lack of talent on the line....but lets also look at the 3rd round type draft picks that never developed under him too. He got basic functionality out of 2nd stringers, and that is commendable....but he hasn't really developed anyone to a level higher than originally expected...in fact, a couple became worse than expected, as well as free agents....so....it is really hard to tell how good or bad he was. I do expect better from Callahan, especially since they will very likely give him better players. Plus, he will command respect as an ex Head Coach...and coach of one of the best lines in football (I just threw up) He will also reveal the Cowboys blocking schemes to us....which certainly doesn't hurt. I really like this hire. |

I would expect it will be, but not significantly. Plus this is moving to Gruden's more natural offensive line, in my opinion, and that will help the play calling. |

So, we should keep him until we get to below 30 like Haz. ugh. Our line was good when RG3, or any of the qb's, presented a scheme challenge to the defense. Further, I would be interested to see data that showed where we ranked according to where the RB took his first hit. I feel confident if you take away Morris' ability to gain positive yards, and Griffin's big plays, like the 76 yd run against the Vikings even our 2012 line would have fallen back to middle of the pack. I'll grant that Forrester had little to work with, but it's on the coach to persuade the OC/HC that he needs different players. bottomline, Forrester lifted no one above their natural ability, imo, and didn't refuse to keep obviously sub-par players when told to. |
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
I am fan of the hire -- Callahan has done well (and it's interesting to see some fo the players he's worked with over the years, incluidng former Redskin Cory Raymer): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Callahan_(American_football)
Here's a question: how will a guy with his experience mesh with our OC who is very young (and looks like he could deliver the paper in the mornings)? I don't presume tension one way or another, but Callahan is more than 25 years McVay's senior, and tension arising from this kind of situation is not uncommon. Anyone hear anything about McVay? He's a Shanahan holdover (TE coach) that JJay elevated to OC, if memory serves, and I wonder wither Jay is starting to think makeover for all of the holderover coaches. |

Even though he is hurt, you would have to drop an early 2nd on him. |

Dallas used a lot of zone but also gap and power, too. The Redskins did the same. Running back Alfred Morris should fit nicely into what Callahan wants – DeMarco Murray did a lot of plant-and-cuts in Dallas. Gruden likes more power – they used more gap-blocking this season, too, as the Redskins did this year on occasion. My guess is the Redskins want more of that in 2015. In Dallas, the line was not just as much about obstructing guys (as the Redskins had been under Mike Shanahan), it was about moving guys on the go
|
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
Seems like Linehan has been the major asset to the Cowboys Offensive staff, not Callihan.
|
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
good hire. I don't know that he's tons better than the guy we had, but he's a better fit for what gruden wants to do in the running game, and we did take him away from dallas, so that's always nice.
