With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
Dante Fowler Jr
Thats my feeling, what's yours? Who do you want and who do you think we select? I think Randy Gregory, Beasely and Fowler are my favorites...Shelton, Cooper and Mariota are under strong consideration by the organization. I trust Scott, should be interesting. |
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
I say Fowler, Beasley, even Williams, whoever falls on their lap after the other teams pick ahead.
|
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
Williams, Beasley, Fowler... in that order.
|
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
does randy gregory seriously weigh less than 240?
|
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
since lawrence taylor, has such a slender [under 240] pass rusher recorded double digit sacks?
von miller is the closest i could think of but he's 250, i believe. von miller's combine profile says he was 246 at the time. |
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
Amari Cooper, Leonard Williams, Dante Fowler Jr.
|
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
If Williams is gone then Cooper, but I really believe in Murphy
|
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
Trade down.
If that is not an option for this thread, then I say Fowler. He has the size that McC covets. |
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
Williams, Cooper, Fowler - in that order.
I expect the two QB's to be gone along with Williams. Oakland may pick Knight rather than Cooper but my gut says the pick Williams or Cooper with Jax taking the other. At that point, it becomes a question of Fowler v. Beasley. Between the two, I really do not know who is likely to be the better pro, and I am not certain which way Scot McC is leaning. To me, it all depends on who Scot McC thinks is the better "football" guy. I DO NOT want Gregory or Knight. As I have said in other places, I would rather risk they become HOF'ers for someone else than have either become Justin Blackmon for us. (My concern for Knight is more that he is a one-year wonder against less than stellar competition - I have not heard any concerns about his character). |
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
I really dont think the weed stuff affects Gregory stock with McC...thats my gut feeling. Randy Gregory is high on our draft board...Gruden is a bigggg fan

Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
In a strange way I'm rooting for them to take Mariota, if only because it means Scot McCloughan likes him. And given how much he liked Russell Wilson, I'd see it as a very good sign if McC thought highly enough of Mariota. I'm not sure if that is circular logic but it basically shows my faith in McCloughan.
All that said, I think Fowler is the pick. |
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
let's get a poll going in here.
with "trade down" being a choice |
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
let's get a poll going in here.
with "trade down" being a choice
I am hoping for a trade down since there seems to be some good pass rushers later in the draft. Now, if Leonard Williams is there at 5, which I dont personally think is possible, then you take him barring an absolutely crazy trade offer. As for our pick if we stay at 5, Im hoping for either Beasley or Fowler. Imo, Beasley will be the better pass rusher, Fowler will be the better overall OLB. I understand the logic of a WR with that pick, but im still hoping for help with the pass rush with the number 5 since a WR being dominant requires getting him the ball. And unless we improve across the OL and QB, the best WR isnt going to help us much, where as a dominant defense can. |
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
What if Mariota is there at 5 and Mclovin doesn't pick him, people will swear DS made him pass on him. We can't win with the media.
|
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
NO WR'S PLEASE. Seriously, get one in the 4th round that can be a #3 and be a punt returner. We need a pass rusher or someone that can protect the QB.
Why wouldn't we take Beasley? He seems to be the most complete OLB in the draft. Plus no off the field issues. |
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
We've done the trade down thing already and it netted us Jarvis Jenkins, Leonard Hankerson, and Roy Helu. Let that bull sink in. We traded up and got RG3, I wanna stay where we are and take the BPA

Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
a good trade this time with the Rams:

That history does not matter at all, that was with incompetent talent evaluators and DS chiming in. We actually have someone who knows what they are doing in charge now. In Scot we trust. |

1 year deals for guys who arent worth the 5.5 million they signed for. the players are the pennies in this case. What did Jenkins and Hank sign for? |

Quake, it makes zero f'ing sense to apply the poor results of a Bruce Allen/Shanahan draft move to the Scot McCloughan era. Give Scot those three picks and I guarantee he comes up with a lot better results than Bruce did. |

I do think this is the year to go all in with the trade down scenario. Now if there is a guy you want available, you take him, but, this year, and this year only, we have as our GM a guy who was looking at all the college players and generating reports for several different teams in need of different positions. We ought to try and take advantage of that fact. |
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
I believe in BPA in general. I believe more picks = more chances to add starters
But I also believe that when you are sitting in the top 10, you shouldnt trade down so far that all of your grade A players are gone. I dont care if we trade down but i dont want to trade down so far that all the potential grade A players like shelton, ray, scherff or even beasley are gone. We have the no. 5 overall pick. There seems to be plenty of grade A talent for the top 10 to 12 picks. id like to stay in the top 10. |

Actually Bruce Allen was, and still is, a member of our personnel team as well as the leader of the franchise. It was Allen who gave us the McNabb trade, for example. He's still in charge. He's McC's boss. Before someone says, "They said Scot has full control," please understand that they said the same under Shanahan, yet Allen gave us both the McNabb trade and the RGIII trade. |

Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
Trading down isn't a bad thing to do. Just depends on the situation. But if there's a potentially great player on the board, and I think there is w/ Beasley, then you take him. End of discussion. Trading down certainly hasn't worked here, doesn't mean it won't. But we could have JJ Watt, instead we have Kerrigan. Not a draft expert but unless someone blows us away with something, I'd stay put and draft Beasley.

Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
"Here’s what a few football people who were at the league meetings are thinking about the breakdown of this draft: Nine prime picks, then eight or 10 really good prospects, then maybe 30 or so of the same-level player. The top nine: quarterbacks Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, defensive tackle Leonard Williams, wideouts Kevin White and Amari Cooper, pass-rushers Dante Fowler and Vic Beasley, offensive tackle Brandon Scherff and cornerback Trae Waynes. After that, beauty starts to be in the eye of the beholder. I had one GM tell me: “The 17th pick on our board might be the 53rd pick on another team’s board—and that could be a team we really respect.”
In other words, even if the Redskins trade back into a pick somewhere in the early teens they could be looking at a major drop off in the quality of the player they will get in the first round. There is always the debate over quality or quantity. The crowd that wants to trade down thinks that giving McCloughan more selections will increase the chances that he can find future contributors. But there is also something to be said for getting a single impact player who has a very high chance of being successful and who can make other players around him better. If we stay at #5, get Fowler.
If Fowler's gone, trade down with target on the following, in order: - Waynes, CB, MSU - Flowers, OT, Miami - Peat, OT Stanford - Dupree, DE//OLB, Kentucky |

At the same time, where Watt was drafted tells you we can trade back and still get an elite player. |
