It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
Merriman isn't going to mini-camp or offseason workouts because of issues about the team's insurance policy. He told the Chargers this just after he switched his agent... to the POSTONS. A pre-contract minicamp holdout?!? By a ROOKIE!?!?! WTF?

Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
I wouldn't care if the second coming of Joe Montana was available for our pick on draft day if his agents were the Postons I say pass. These guys are clowns, how could anyone want them as agents?

Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
Kinda funny he trained with LaVar and wanted to play with him and now signed the Postons.......sounds like a LaVar wannabe to me
|
Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
The Postons are jokes. It would be really easy to get rid of these clowns quick, just dont sign their player and say they wont sign you until they arent your agents. Wasent that one of our top reasons for not picking KW II? Seriously; a rookie minicamp hold-out??? Unbelivable.

Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
Jeez I thought the Skins were the only team with these types of problems? ;)

Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
Wow, makes Drew look pretty damn good.

Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
I sincerely hope the Chargers don't give in to this crap. G711 is right on this one. If I'm the Chargers owner, I tell Merriman right out: "We went to the playoffs last year without you, we're an even better team this year, and as long as you keep those jokers as your agent you'll sit at home watching us on Sundays."
The owners need to get together and bring these agents back down to earth. If the guys in college now see that owners refuse to deal with certain agents, they won't select those agents to represent them next year. |
Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
Also wanted to pass on a blurb I got from ESPN Insider. It's actually a case of a player behaving in a way that us fans, NFL owners, and other players should applaud:
May. 5 - The Steelers and Ward's agent, Eugene Parker, have begun negotiating a contract extension for the four-time Pro Bowl receiver, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Although there's no guarantee it will be completed before the start of the season, Ward has no intention of letting his contract status affect his commitment to the team. "There's nothing I can do," Ward told the newspaper. "They're talking to my agent and stuff like that. It's out of my control. I still have to go out here and perform. I'm busting my tail and worrying about getting better. I'll let my agent and the Steelers talk about my contract." TAKE NOTE Shawn Merriman, Sean Taylor, Terrell "Big-Mouth" Owens, etc, etc, etc. THIS is how real players with character handle their business. I hope the Steelers give him double what TO is getting. And Sean Taylor, who has proven nothing in the NFL, should be embarrassed for the way he's handling his contract gripe when you look at how a guy like Hines Ward (a four-time pro bowler) keeps a solid team-first attitude when he's scheduled to make peanuts this year. I just thought it was nice to see that some guys still do it right in this league. |
Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
Damn. That sure gives hope to the rest of the league.

Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
Rosenhaus is fair and realistic in his bargaining. He tries to get the most money he can for his client, as any agent should, but he keeps his demands in the realm of the realistic. The Postons take these ridiculous positions on things that nobody has a problems with, and the player ends up holding out.
Really, if you're a player, the only reason you'd want the Postons on your side is if you want to fight tooth and nail over every single little detail in a contract, AND make unreasonable demands asking for a pie-in-the-sky contract. I am starting to think that anyone who hires the Postons may have a slight character question. If you can't be reasonable about your demands in contract negotiations and you're willing to hold out of training camp to have your demands met, I'd consider that a bit selfish. |
Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
I wonder how you "pick" your agent. Do they approach you or you approach them?
|
Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
In the case of Merriman, I think the Postons can point to the ridiculous contract KWII got (for holding out) and say they can get him the same thing. Problem is that Marty is old school, the Chargers went to the playoffs and while he would be a great addition, his holding out doesn't cost the Chargers a cent.

Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
i guess i see the other side...maybe because i'm a Terps fan...but nonetheless...
Postons are obviously looking out for the health of their client. If Merriman goes to mini-camp and has a career-ending injury and hasn't signed yet, he leaves with absolutely nothing. However, this is a bad situation for Merriman. Suck it up and go to mini-camp, regardless of what your agent says. |
Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
that is true. but while rosenhaus comes out looking good right now, he also has his bad side. he is the one telling all these people to hold out until they get their demands met. santana moss wanted to come to training camp, but drew told him not to until he gets his extension. they need to put some sort of restriction on these agents so they can stop all this craziness in the league about holding out.

The agents hound these guys as far back as high school sometimes. They go after each other's players like jackels on a zebra carcas. Unless you are a lower level player you never need to look for an agent they find you. |

Lets clear one thing up....hs told him to skip a "voluntary MINI Camp" not training camp. If a player is under contract, he'll be at Training camp. Now. I dont like the direction where these contract negoiations are heading, in which it doesnt matter how much longer you are signed for. However, I think Santana signed a reasonable deal in a reasonable amount of time. He didnt miss a whole lot. It is May after all and he is in camp and "is ready to get to work".... :biggthump |
Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
The problem, Schneed - is often the Postons make teams get every little thing for the player. Let's look at the Postons and the outragious contracts they get, Winslow, Pace, Arrington -- It can go on forever.

Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
BULL HOCKEY!!!! Some of you don't get it. If he shows up to camp and gets hurt, they don't just drop him off at the bus station. When rookies without contracts check in they sign a boilerplate contact that says if they get hurt, they will still get money equivalent to their postion. If Merriman gets hurt, he gets money between what the 11th and 13th pick get. What the Postons want is legal language that says if he gets hurt, THEY CAN SUE for what his earnings may have been for his entire career!!!! In other words, he crashes his motorcycle, he can say that he would have received 3 mil a year for a 15 year career! Gentlemen, this is a big deal because it opens teams up to unlimited lawsuits rather than giving out the contract that he would have received.
|
Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
BTW, Lavar is one of their guys. Don't you think that Lavar might have helped put it in his head that you can get hurt and that you should try to milk as much money out of the situation as possible? Vilma got a 5 yr 10.3 million dollar contract last year. That is approximately what Merriman would get IF he hurt himself in camp. This is more than looking out for yourself.

Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
The whole thing with Arrington's contracts makes sense on how they operate. First, his rookie deal had the clause about wanting a higher % of merch sales, so no jerseys to buy. And now the mysterious "missing" $6.5 million bonus in the current one (when it has been reported that there already IS a roster bonus for that amount in 2006). They claim that there should be two of them? These agents just need to go away.

Re: It's getting worse...Merriman and the Postons
I've been reading on espn.com that EVERY SINGLE ONE of Rosenhaus' semi-star players are holding out for new contracts.
I hope not a single team gives in, then he'll have to rethink his bullshit strategy. |
