Re: All things Redskins training camp

Keim on 950 saying part of the reason Junior is here, Preston Smith is not an immediate OLB...hasnt beaten anyone in pass rush. And Murphy is still thinking too much and slow rushing the QB.

Its early, but I didnt see Preston Smith as a OLB...his tape and size says he plays along the D-Line

MTK 07-31-2015 04:08 PM

Re: All things Redskins training camp

Smith will need time, we already knew this and Murphy might just be a solid backup at best. JG is a proven pass rusher and gives us a lot of flexibility.

Re: All things Redskins training camp

Apparently, Breeland went down grabbing a knee after slipping to the ground in coverage. Was helped onto a stretcher and carted off the field. Could not put weight on the knee.

Not good man. Not good.

Bashaud Breeland's day just got a bit worse. He slipped and injured himself. Has been down for a few minutes. #Redskins

michael phillips ‏@michaelpRTD · 10m10 minutes ago
Breeland is carted off. Can't put weight on his right leg. Not a good start to camp - he is going to be a big part of the secondary.
Oh man ....

https://twitter.com/dckerNBC4/status/627211349886697472

Watch his right knee as he slips trying to cover the come-back route. It doubles over in a not good way.

Seriously not good!

Can't see it because Twitter is blocked at work but if it's as bad as you say it is sounds like we better have a solid backup option.

How will his 1 game suspension work? Would the injury time count if the season starts or is it when comes back from injury that they tack the 1 game suspension?

Keim just answered my question:

Fwiw: breeland can serve the suspension while hurt per multiple sources.

John Keim ‏@john_keim

Team source says bashaud breeland will miss 4-6 weeks with an mcl injury.

Please, ye football gods -- NO MORE INJURIES in training camp. We do not have the depth to withstand them. Have pity on your pious, fearful B&G flock.

And get well fast, Bree. Expecting big things from you this year after you OWNED Dez last year.

Hard to imagine a step backwards from the fetid turd of last year's O-line. Addition by subtraction (taking to you Chester and Polumbus).

Re: All things Redskins training camp

Several reports I've read have mentioned him getting some time at guard. Gruden wants all the lineman to be able to work in at multiple spots in case of injury.

Chico23231 08-01-2015 03:24 PM

Re: All things Redskins training camp

Jay Gruden said the Redskins will try Kyshoen Jarrett in the slot in addition to Justin Rogers and Tevin Mitchel

Per keim Twitter. Kyshoen jarrett in the slot, they must have a lot of confidence in the kid. Jarrett got snaps there in college as well so learning curve won't be as great

Been to two camps. RG3 looks a lot faster this year. More agile. It just seems like his feet move quicker in tight spaces. Like he's short stepping. He always seemed to have a long stride but this year he's really quick in the pocket. I'm hoping it translates to the games

Thanks for the report on RGIII. It's much appreciated. I hope you had a good time at the camps.

Do you have any observations about any other players that you'd like to share?

I would thinks so , unless they really love the guys they have . Of course $$$ would also be a consideration .

how good is he? they released him to save $2mill. I mean, i'm sure he improves our depth a lot, but does he start here? if not, I don't know why he'd come here to be a depth player.

They also have to pay some other guys and he is just the odd man out there, but does he fit with us for a scheme perspective??

i don't think it matters. he's going to go somewhere where he'll be a starter, which probably isn't here.

Day 4 was the last day I attended. So I was going to post what I noticed while I was there. Take it how you want. I played college only at a Division II college level.

Just things that stood out to me.

-Matt Jones is huge and nimble! Although he's always looking to run someone over it gets him in trouble. He runs high a lot of the time and I can't tell if it's just because he's so big or he isn't keeping his pads low. He takes as many blows as he gives. Reminds me of Barber from Dallas a few years ago.

-Alfred Morris looks bigger this year. He's also looking great catching the football out of the backfield.

-Ryan Grant is going to win a spot on this team this year. If he doesn't, then someone will grab him. He gives even our starting DB's fits with his route running in 1v1's. He's so smooth out of his breaks and has great hands.

-Our offense is throwing a lot of check downs. Our defensive line gets such great penetration that RG3 gets rid of the ball to prevent the sack. I don't think it's because our offensive line is doing poorly because they seem to do great in individual drills, but because our Defensive Line is really going after it.

-I was not a supporter of the Joe Barry hire, but now I am. He is such a aggressive defensive coach and fired up everyday on the field. He demands respect on the field. He gets guys fired up for every play. Him and Callahan are fun to watch during practice coaching the guys up.

-We need to get Trent Williams signed. The guy is a WR playing offensive line. He absolutely destroyed Kerrigan all day yesterday.

-Trent Murphy reminds me of a poor mans Kerrigan. He doesn't get a lot of pressure on passing downs, but has a high motor. He's really getting after it, and if he had another 30 lbs on him would make a great penetrating DE. I don't see him starting on OLB week 1. He just seems to be a great depth guy for us. That's my opinion.

-Keenan Robinson is being used as a blitzing LB a lot in TC. He's getting to the QB a lot. I'm not sure if that's going to be our game plan with him this year or not. Or if they are just trying to get RG3 work with middle pressure and crashing the outsides so he can work on stepping up to the left/right side pockets.

-Jordan Reed is open almost every play. If he can stay healthy it will be great.

-The difference of having Breeland at Nickel and Rogers is night and day. Crowder had a huge day yesterday with Rogers in the slot. So did Roberts. The first 2 days you wouldn't of even known Roberts was on the field.

-M. Moses looks good this year. He struggled a few times against Kerrigan but that's to be expected against our best pass rusher. If they were to move Sherff to guard and have Moses at RT starting the season. I wouldn't be surprised.

If I can remember anything else. I'll add it here. I will say that it was a lot of fun watching these guys up close. If you have a question about a player. I could add what I saw, if I remember.
