We all knew it was coming...
Taylor wants a new deal
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
flat out no. maybe in another year or two or three.
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
well all i'm saying is he is gone. no moer taylor for the redskins just forget him. cause in a situation like this no one wins.
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
I agree. Another year or two. Taylor was a good rookie for us, but we have to be positve he is worth spending the money on before we actually do. The good thing is, that the Redskins hold all the leverage in this, because Sean Taylor signed such a long rookie contract. If he wants a contract that bad, and decide's to hold out, the Redskins can afford to let him, because his cap number is nothing insane. I think if he came back and had a really good second season, this is a different story.
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
Let him sit. He was a playmaker for us, but God knows that Williams can plug people in and make it work. We have two adequate safeties in Bowen and Clark, not to mention others who would jump at the chance to make a name for themselves. We CANNOT give in to this kind of stuff.
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
well could someone please tell me why they rushed him into damn camp i dont care if a rookie misses camp somebody get the deal done. damn we got brunnell on one hand and taylor on the other. i know you cant compare but damn. when you look at the value of both these players to teh team's future we are ass backwards here now everyone is on this testoterone trip. so we let taylore hold out while brunnell is on camp on time and at every voluntary workout i wonder why.. he got his money take a chance on teh player fopr peeps sake i am tires of losing smott and pierce and now taylor its like we cant keep good players but the redskins are one of the most profitable franchises in the league its frustrating. get players that are good and they get gone. is there an answer for the redskins?
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
He shows up and plays or defaults his contract in my opinion.
When he asks for more money we should tell him we were thinking about making him second string. He'll get the desire to play. Sad these new kids are all about money and not the game. And screw you if you tell me he has the right to try for all the money he can. Fine....smoot away while we head to the Super Bowl. A "Redskin for Life" would not be acting like this after so/so year even if he did make a few plays. He'll show up and Gibbs won't give him another penny peace |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
screw me? a personla attack aiight cool i'm not going there i want the redskins to win is all i'm saying. i want to beat dallas i'm not gonna sit here and be like we lost to dalls but atleast we gave sean taylor 18 million hahah the jokes on us when cowpoke fans throw that win streak in my face again!!!!!!

if he defaults his contract then what? can anybody answer that?
if he defaults his contract then what? can anybody answer that?
I dont know how he defults his contract. I was just under the impression that if he sits, he dosent get paid, but it still counts against the cap. |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
so thats another wasted draft pick?
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
well i'm gonna say i told you so when bledsoe drops the bomb on bowen
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
well i'm gonna say i told you so when bledsoe drops the bomb on bowen
So that will be basically no different than when Vinny dropped the bomb on Taylor, no? Bowen plays a completley different position than Taylor anyways. He will be in the game regardless. If Taylor is not playing, it will either be Ryan Clark or Andre Lott in his place. Both of whom played very well last season. |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
okay i feel better we got ryan clark and andre lott
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
well we ned to start trading away our first rounders and just pick from the 3rd round down stock up on those picks they are the only ones who gonna play for pride
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
better yet we ought to make brunnell paly safety and earn his moeny
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
I read in the Washington Post that him not being there isn't about the $$$. He is relaxing in FL away from all the negative crap he went through last year. He will be back in camp when it is MANDATORY... Portis has been talking to him and HE said that he guaranteed Taylor will be there for training camp...

Re: We all knew it was coming...
yall just dont want to pay nfl players alot of money thats not realistic i want the redskin to win. they make way more than me i know this i want my team to win. even ramsey getting screwed on his deal. the only people getting paid is portis and brunnell..
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
i dont care if he there or not i want to beat dallas

Well obviously we are paying the NFL players money, if you look at our cap situation. I personally dont care if Sean sits on his behind for the next 6 years, because he stands to lose alot more than the Redskins do. There are alot of people making alot of money on this team. To say Portis and Brunell are the only people getting pd is crazy. |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
Way more people are getting paid than just Portis and Brunell... Hell, I think Deon, Jeff George, Trotter, Mark Carrier, Dodsen, Brad Johnson, and a few others are still getting paid by our Skins...
I want them to win too, but the way to do that isn't by buying the team. It is about forming a team and that is what the Eagles and Patriots have done so well. It is about making the tough decision to let players go when it doesn't make sense to pay them but having the foresight to draft player positions to fill those holes as contract years arise and be proactive in spotting those problems. Not by renegotiating every freakin' year to spread the cap cost of the contract to be cap friendly one or 2 years down the road. We are awful at doing that and we spend so much in dead money every year we couldn't even afford to franchise Smoot because if he signed the one year tender we would have had to cut 8 key players to get under the cap... |

I wish my response was this short an to the point... My fingers hurt... |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
His rookie deal sucks, I'll admit that, BUT he needs to log a couple more seasons under his belt, hopefully along with some Pro Bowl nods, before he thinks he is due a new deal.
If he's not in training camp, this could get real ugly. **Somewhere SC is lurking, loading a "meathead" bullet into his chamber and getting ready to fire away, LOL.** |

You were probably joking, but just to clarify these are the players currently on our dead cap, per CC's cap sheets Coles Trotter Upshaw Fiore Haley Rasby Brown |

Coles Trotter Upshaw Fiore Haley Rasby Brown
I was kidding, hell I didn't think anyone would even remember Dodsen. BUt look at that though... Coles, Trotter, and Fiore... I mean Fiore? That is UNREAL... |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
Just let him sit until his contract expires and pay him nothing. After sitting a few years no team will want him. ok this is a dumb thought but these players are pissing me off.
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
Again, I'll repeat my message about Rosenhaus. If he sees teams won't deal with his bullshit, he'll stop getting the players he represents to do that.

Re: We all knew it was coming...
As RedskinsJunkie pointed out, according to Wednesday's Washington Post, ST is not looking for a new contract
So what's the deal then? |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
It seems very speculative to me.

Maybe thats what He's thinking. |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
God, I hope he hasn't been hanging out with Ricky Williams.....that could get ugly
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
Unless he's into "natural" medicine, I think we're OK. :)

Re: We all knew it was coming...
Well, I checked with my sources and apparently Taylor has told coach Gibbs he will hold out of camp until Matty changes his avatar on the Warpath
"I'm freakin' Sean Taylor," said Taylor "not some camp scrub. Sean Taylor gets sick when he sees blue" But when asked by reporters, Mr. Kyer had the following to say "Mr. Taylor and his agent knew the rules when he signed up last year. Avatars are non-negotiable. If he wants to get a new avatar he has to earn it by putting in his dues on the message boards" Seriously though. If in fact it is a contract issue, this is sort of a catch-22 in a way. On the one hand if they wait to renegotiate his deal it could end up costing them a lot more if-as we all hope-Sean Taylor turns into a monster player. It's similar to the Juwan Howard/Washington Bullets situation from several years ago. On the other hand, as has been mentioned here before the Redskins are not at fault for the deal that Taylor signed and it is not their responsibility to cover for the mistakes of agents. What is the likelihood that Rosenhaus would ever tell a team "Hey listen, you didn't do a very good job negotiating my client's contract last season. This is way too much money. Here take some back." |

Maybe thats what He's thinking.
Reporter: "So you and coach Brown got caught up on Saturday about practice?" Iverson: "If I can't practice, I can't practice. It is as simple as that. It ain't about that at all. It's easy to sum it up if you're just talking about practice. I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about practice, not a game, not a game, not a game, but we're talking about practice. Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game last it's my last but we're talking about practice man. How silly is that? Now I know that I'm supposed to lead by example and all that but I'm not shoving that aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I honestly do but we're talking about practice. We're talking about practice man. (laughter from the media crowd) We're talking about practice. We're talking about practice. We're not talking about the game. We're talking about practice. Re: We all knew it was coming...
If the skins renegotiate, ST willjust turn around and hold out in 2 years when he makes the probowl. then he will hold out 3 years later when he is considered the best safety in the game.
the redskins need to take a stand against rosenhaus and not renegotiate. |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
Just wondering, but cant teams put a "no-holdout" clause in contracts? Something like the player will have to forfit "X" amount of his bounus if he were to hold out within the first "Y" amount of years of the contract.
That way most holdouts would only occur when players want extensions or if they were in the last year of there contract... |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
Maybe it's just me, but is this report anything new? It has no new quotes from either Taylor or Rosenhaus, or from the skins. It looked to me like a wire report simply reporting on the opening of the skins OTAs, and noting that Taylor wasn't there, and that it's common knowledge that he isn't happy with the intial deal. Was there ANYTHING new in this piece (regarding Taylor), except for the inflamatory headline?
I didn't see it. I expect Taylor will be here for the minicamp, and that the skins will add some sort of incentive bonus somehwere (for minimal money) so the kid can save face and Rosenhaus can buy another solid gold gold-bar holder, or something. No need to start flaming each other... |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
Not that I'm the biggest fan of the Post right now, but this sounds much more promising, and it has named sources and everything! From today's Post:
Safety Sean Taylor was not present for the start of the Washington Redskins' offseason practices yesterday, but Coach Joe Gibbs said he expects the second-year player to be on hand next month for the mandatory minicamp. Taylor has not returned numerous calls from his coaches, and Gibbs said he is unsure why he is not here but that his absence is not related to his contract. When asked if the Redskins had been given assurances from Taylor's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, that Taylor would attend a mandatory camp June 17-19, Gibbs said, "I would be in shock if he missed something that was mandatory." Previously, Gibbs stated that he believed Taylor's absence was related to concerns about his contract. But the team has since sent salary cap specialist Eric Schaffer to Miami to meet with Rosenhaus, and Redskins officials say they are now certain that the contract is not the reason Taylor has remained in Florida. Gibbs said Rosenhaus has been reluctant to divulge details about Taylor's decision not to come to Redskins Park, but running back Clinton Portis reiterated his belief that the safety, who was a rookie last year, is burned out from football. "He's doing the proper training" in Florida, said Portis, who speaks with Taylor regularly, "and when he gets here -- whenever that is -- he knows what his responsibility is going to be. I know he'll be here for training camp." Redskins' Taylor Is Absent for Practice |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
Taylor needs to fall in line, NO NEW AVATAR!
