Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
Good: Oline play, running game, and defense vs the run
Bad: defense letting ints hit them in the hands and dropping them. Situational play calling and coaching decisions. Kirks first int Ugly: penalties and special teams play Up: Alfmo, garçon, Reed, hatcher, dline Down: forbath, desean's fucking hamstring, amerson |
Re: Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
Gruden just doesn't seem like a HC.

Re: Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
People need to realize this is our head coach's SECOND YEAR of EVER being a head coach. We hired a General Manager within THIS CALENDAR YEAR.
I know we all want to win and the losing starts to piss you off but jesus fucking christ what did you expect to see out there today??????? All we've talked about all off season is "It's okay to lose some games as long as we look improved." DID WE NOT LOOK IMPROVED?? Yes, there were still blown plays and things to fix but thats expected when you're REBUILDING. We knew we couldn't fix the entire team in one off season but I saw DEFINITE improvement. It's disgusting to see some of the "fans" on here throwing in the towel when it's week 1. Have some faith and support your fucking team for once and maybe they'll reward you with some harder play. |
Re: Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
I think the team is better, especially on defense. I just don't think our HC is showing any sign of getting "it".

What about today's game led you to that conclusion? |
Re: Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
Game plan was conservative but I'm not surprised given how we're built and the Dolphins defensive line.
Penalties were ridiculous. Losing DJax early was an absolute killer. |

??? Did Joe Gibbs "seem" like a head coach after his first 5 games? We would have booed him mercilessly on line, and our current owner would have canned him. No doubt in my mind. |

Oline and dline play were very encouraging

For all of the hoopla and drama around this team, this is the most stoked I've been in maybe 5 years (2012 aside). Saw a lot of encouraging moments today. Give Scot another 2-3 years working his magic and we'll be formidable across the entire roster, I guarantee it. |
Re: Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
Good - Defense only gave up 10 points.
Bad - play calling, Injuries, 2 picks Ugly - Special teams, penalties |

No doubt in my mind.
But after those first 5 games, the rest of the year, you saw a guy who could adapt. They did finish his first season 8-8 after starting 0-5. The only adapting Gruden has done through a full year plus the start of his second is he isnt so negative in his press conferences. Im hoping he can figure it out, but so far, he is showing no halftime changes or any changes to his offense to fit personnel better. He is showing he knows 1 system and very little changes even within his system when it calls for it. I do find it scary that in-game changes are minimal and changes to his system is none regardless of who is playing, which is why I call him a play caller and not a coach. |
Re: Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
I'm just glad we didn't get embarrassed. We are a 6 win team folks nothing more. So don't expect many happy Sunday threads here.

My point was that Gibbs would have been fired after 5 games and you would have cheered. Perhaps Jay G. knows he was facing a monster D line and gave his guys a chance keep his QB upright. Which he did. I thought our core problem areas of O line, D line and QB showed up and I choose to give the coach some credit. |
Re: Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
Good- Bill Callahan as our OL coach
The OL came to play and did an impressive job, providing 37:54 minutes time of possesion. Running game Reed Garcon Smith (rookie) Bad- penalties Special teams Conservative play calling Injuries Reed, he had 2 miscommunications with KC. |

Get the int's in check and we have a QB Oline basically stiffed and RAN on BIG maybe the best D-line in Pro ball Pushed their ass around. Suh....who? Defense...Whoa shit, we have one.....secondary a maybe..please stay healthy Dhall Sacks with no blitz? WTF??? ALMO...WOW! BAD F...n penalties. O and D catch the damn ball!!! Picks....enough said Teams will b the death of me!!! F... Me!!! As S2 has said fans should b ashamed...we are in FULL rebuild mode and trying to find which way is up. We had more good than bad today and some REAL good As Gruden said, needs to be tuned up and cleaner, BUT we competed. I Really wanted to win that game as we had them on their heels and we let them come back. It hurt, but I'm ok with it and happy about the future. |
Re: Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
I liked him last year, and I said before the game I was hoping to see halftime adjustments. I also was worried that we wouldn't make any. Losing Djax hurt, but no one cares about injuries, because every team gets them.

Never once have I ever said a HC should be fired based on his first 5 games... Never... I also give the coach some credit. Callahan did a great job with our OL. But Gruden does not make changes. He does not do any tweaks. He just calls plays. Im not saying to fire Gruden now, but if its the same every week like last year, then something needs to change after the year. And I dont mean same every week like last year in terms of losses. I mean I want to see him, during a game, see something and make a tweak to take advantage of it. I want to see him adapt, like a HC should. I see the same guy I saw last year except he is calmer in press conferences. That isnt the change I need to see. |
Re: Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
Remember, whether we want to admit it or not, this is a rebuild. But a lot of good out there today. I just want that type of effort every week. Give that effort, cut down on the stupid penalties and keep Amerson off the field. Anyone but him. He is just terrible.

Re: Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
good: oline, defense, this year's draft class played pretty well.
bad: no adjustments, penalties, coaching (3&13 draw play, 2&20 draw play, 4&1 FG when we were running roughshod, just a lot of give up/no confidence moments). that return TD and the dropped ints/ kirk's ints were sort of depressing. kirk was fine, he's not the reason we lost, but he definitely didn't look mind-blowingly great either. DJ going down so early really sucks. hamstring too. |
Re: Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
Good: compete level
Bad: Penalties Ugly: play calling |

He has to either catch it or not let the defender outmuscle him for the ball. I'm at the point where I want to see Ross on the field a lot more. Jackson is always getting nicked up and probably isn't going to be resigned next year anyway. |
Re: Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
I can live with this loss IF they address the penalties and special teams…think about if i would have told you before the game the Redskins D would only give up 1 touchdown all of us what have taken that!..cousins had one bad throw and he bounced back from that..The Qb play did not cost us this game..so lets not go there! the penalties as well as at least 2 or 3 possible interceptions we let get away..geez ..why can't our D catch passes..factor in almost miracle type catch the Dolphins D had and the result is loss. I would have liked to see the skins go for it on 3rd and one early in the game vs the missed field goal,at that point Alfred was gaining a lot per carry..but all in all not a terrible game ..a lot to build on and think about it IF the skins had won this game how many post are unrealistic about the rest of season..i can see it now ..WE ARE GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL after ONE win..lets face it guys at best this team wins 7 or 8 games..we gotta be patient!

Re: Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
I don't get the play calling criticism.
What should have been called differently when? I thought Gruden (or McVay and/or Callahan however it was) and Kirk checking out of plays at the line, did a great job limiting their pass rush and putting us in manageable situations. I don't know what you're supposed to call when you're looking at 1st and 20 almost all the way through the third. Bottom line is that when our own mistakes through penalties didn't put us in a down and distance disadvantage we moved the ball. Like some other posters in this thread have noted, conservative play calling wasn't unexpected and was warranted with Kirk's reaction to throwing picks last year. I don't have any problem with the way the game was called. They started keying run int he second half and when we weren't in a hole, Kirk moved the ball through the air. For the first time in a long time, we had a chance to win against a good team in the last 2 minutes of the game. In the gameday thread somebody noted the clock could have been managed better at the end of the 2nd half to take our possession past the 2 minute warning. This is a legit criticism. A lot of generalizations about bad play calling and Gruden not seeming like a head coach in this thread with no real specifics. |
Re: Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
Good : KC (for the most part. I think his hands were tied. Only one pic was really terrible) , Oline, Defense, Jordan Reed, Almo.
Bad : forbath, conservative playcalling, discipline, special teams, david amerson. |

It will depend on if the team continues to play hard and show improvement. If the team quiets on him, he will be gone. |
This is a good post and I agree with all points, but do you think Snyder gives Scot that long?
I don't think Scot is going anywhere anytime soon and, In all honesty, I think he has more power than we realize. Snyder has to notice by now that he doesn't know how to run an NFL team. He also HAS to have noticed the unanimous head-nod he got from the entire league on his hiring of McCloughan. If he were to can his "best signing to date" he'd ruin his reputation for life, if it hasn't been already. I fully believe Snyder has given up and turned the keys over to Scot. THANK GOD I'm with Punch when he said the question now is how long will Jay be here. Which I think will be the full tenure of his contract. The team showed improvement today and i'll be damned if i've seen a Redskins team play more physical than they have this year in a LONG time. It's a pleasant surprise to see this team playing with pride for once, sticking up for each other and even getting into fights for one another. We're building, and so far it's working. But the process WILL take some time. |

Yeah, let's put this one on the coach. Yeah, don't think so.... If not for the punt return for a TD, we probably get the W, without our most explosive offensive threat for most of the game. This is a loss I am ok with. The team is better, will likely get better as the season goes on, and will compete all year. |

Re: Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
The Good: KC, Garcon, Reed, the running game, the d-line, the o-line (blocking)
The bad: Amerson, injuries, the secondary in general The Ugly: Endless penalties, stupid refs, Gruden's non-existent nuts, DJax being almost as injury prone as Jordan Reed. |
Re: Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
Gotta say Im happy with the trench play today..Well done by both sides; exceeded expectations.
It just feels like a punch to the balls when our special teams continue to struggle. And the penalties...gosh I just felt like we shoulda won that game. |
Re: Good, bad and ugly. Post game reactions vs Dolphins
Good: Line play both sides of the ball, Alfmo, general toughness shown by team, JG's commitment to the run.
Bad: DB's still getting burned, JG's commitment to the run. Ugly: Special Teams, penalties. |
