Vegas over/under for Skins wins in "05"
 

Howdy fellas, just got some information from a buddy in Vegas that a few casinos have started posting lines for over/under bets for all NFL teams for next season. The Redskins are posted at 7.5 wins.

What do you take and how confident are you in the number?

That's not bad considering last I heard we're an underdog to the bears.

I'd go for 8-8 or 9-7 if I'm being realistic. I think we could surprise and have a 10-6 season. I DO think the Bears might be fielding a good team this year with their offseason pickups.

The Bears will have a pretty solid defense, especially along that line. I don't think they got any help on the offense (besides a rookie RB), or did they get some good pickups? Which I thought was kind of silly seeing how well Thomas Jones did last year.

I think the over is a safe bet there. And I'm not just being optomistic in saying that.

It'll be interesting to follow the number and see if it goes up or down to see what the rest of the world thinks about our skins. If it goes up, people are feeling as good as I am about the skins. If it goes down, well then my bias may be blinding me.

Also forgot to mention the Redskins were posted at 40 to 1 to win the Superbowl.

Interesting to note that the closing over/under number for 2004 was 8.5 wins before the season started last year.

You can't just look at the over/under, you have to check the $ line on those bets as well. Sometimes taking the over will pay $13 for every $10 you put down, which means Vegas would pay you a little extra on the over bet, meaning they think it's more likely that the Skins will fall short of the 7.5 win mark.

Assuming it's an even money line, I'd take the over on that. And that's not being a biased Redskins fan. I mean look at how they performed last year once Ramsey took over, they seemed like an 8-8 type team at that point to me. And I gotta think they can only grow from there.

As much as I would like to say we cant be biased, i think its tough not to look through a biased lens being die-hard skins fans....... No matter how bad we are i could never say before the season that we are gonna be 5-11, it would cause me to much pain. "13-3. worst case scenario 12-4," lol

I thought that was kind of weird too. Jones did great and since he's my boy from UVA, it was even more upsetting the Bears took Jones. I guess they want two different kinds of backs.

I think the reason for drafting Cedric Benson was because of his duralbility and the fact that he's an every down back.

But I do agree, I like Jones and he did play well.

We did run all over that line last year....portis for 171!! They did pick up Muhammed from Carolina and now have Rex Grossman back, which is a huge step up from last year carousel they played under center! (and Benson of course) And some offensive lineman too!! That defense they have is vulnerable......I hear they are getting rid of R.W. McQuarters because of salary cap constraints........I would agree with you though.......Thomas Jones is a SOLID RB! But we should be able to move the ball on that Defense like we did last year! We better beat the Bears to start the season!

i think we could realistically go 7-9 to 10-6 , if we learn how to close out games and we can more than 17 points a game.as far as the bears go, i am not scared of them.especially offensivley. defense their secondary doesn't even register.but i like their coach.

Giants twice
Eagles once
Buccaneers
Raiders
Cardinals

So I'd say we have a real shot at going 11-5 if we beat the teams we SHOULD beat.

This is optomistic to say the least. After the last few years I would do cartwheels for splits with the birds and boys. As for the topic of this thread...I would think the Skins will go at least 8-8 this year.

We're splitting with the Birds..........I guarantee it.

Broncos, Raiders and Seahawks will be tough. If we can get 2 of those 3, I'd be really happy. Overall I'm pretty much with you though MC. I'm thinking 9-7 isn't a stretch, and I'll hope for 10-6.

Its so hard to say. This is a team I could see do really bad or be supringly awsome. I really dont know how much of a factor the continuity and same system is going to be. I'm actually glad were not supposed to be a Super Bowl championship team because of a crazy offseason, I think we can suprise some people. Of course I'll take the over on that bet, because I'm a skins fan. Really hard to tell. We WILL beat the Bears though.

If our Offense is half way good and can score on aveerage 18-23 points we should not worry much. We know our D will be top 5 with out any problem. Hopefully Coach Gibbs will learn better clock management and learn from his mistakes last year.

We are going to be great or crappy... Just depends on the way Ramsey plays this year. Our D will be huge and I think that incorporating the shot gun and stretch running plays will help. We will beat the Cowgirls twice this year. We should have split with the Eagles last year so I think that is a definite posibility. We certainly should be in a good position this year to win a few games. I am thinking 10-6 with a good possibility of better. Obviously depends on the health of our O line and Ramsey not making the really bad decisions down the stretch of a close game.

WOW Dasael you sound surprisingly optimistic :) That's an encouragement right there....

I think this will be the year we finally get ONE win against Dallas......
there are some aging players on Dallas's O line, and a free agent coming off back surgery. Bledsoe panics when pressured, Parcells will have a lot of rookies playing defense, and it will be an adjustment if they go to a 3-4.
A win against Dallas would be the eqiuvalent of a successful season

As for the rest ..........I think 8-8, at my most optimistic a 9-7, I don't see us splitting with the Eagles..........of course, I am really anxious to see what our offense does this season, see how our line improves with Jansen and the addition of Rabach, how the smurf receivers perform, if Jacobs steps it up, if we can get Portis going in the running game, how Ramsey performs.......if we can get a healthy Daniels, and Lavar, and Williams can find an adequate replacement for Pierce, Rogers is the real deal.....awwwwwww......dreams at this point.....really early....but what else do we got to do this time of the year..
