Redskins sign free safety

the redskins signed free safety cory hall, who previously played for the falcons. i think this move has something to do with sean taylor holding out, i think they are preparing for the worst if he doesn't attend any practices or minicamps. Washington Redskins: Former Falcons free safety Cory Hall agreed Monday to a one-year deal with the Redskins. He will sign for $565,000. Hall was considered one of the top free-agent safeties in the past couple of years, but things didn't work out in Atlanta; he was released by the Falcons after two seasons. Though he was on the Cowboys' short list, Hall didn't want to wait for an offer from Dallas. The 28-year-old Hall was a third-round draft choice of the Bengals in 1999 and played four seasons for Cincinnati, starting his final two years. The 6-foot, 213-pound Hall played his college ball at Fresno State. The Redskins have good depth at the safety position with Sean Taylor, Matt Bowen and Pierson Prioleau. |
Re: Redskins sign free safety
wow. Pretty suprising move. There are defintley going to be some quality safteies on our team, and proabaly one or two quality safties let go.
|
Re: Redskins sign free safety
With Taylor, Bowen, Lott, Clark, Prioleau and Hall, we've got 1 or 2 too many safeties. It should be interesting to see who gets the ax.
|
Re: Redskins sign free safety
BTW, who got cut to make room for him?
|
Re: Redskins sign free safety
Hrm - what kind of contract did he require!
|
Re: Redskins sign free safety
Washington Redskins: Former Falcons free safety Cory Hall agreed Monday to a one-year deal with the Redskins. He will sign for $565,000.
|
Re: Redskins sign free safety
Ugh - crap. Sorry. Didn't see the 2nd line of that paragraph. It's been a long day!
|
Re: Redskins sign free safety
No problem, I have been having plenty of those lately!
This will be interesting to see who gets cut out of our secondary - but I suppose competition is best for establishing solid players. |
Re: Redskins sign free safety
Is this just in case Taylor is really as wack out as he seems? To me it seems nobody but Taylor no what the heck is going on in his head.
|
Re: Redskins sign free safety
Yo, Sean, whatta' ya want for your house?
|
Re: Redskins sign free safety
The more I read, the more I think that Bowen is going to get the ax.
|
Re: Redskins sign free safety
I don't think this is a move that has anything to do with Taylor, sounds more like a move for depth and to possibly replace Bowen as someone pointed out.
|
Re: Redskins sign free safety
I agree. I think Bowen will be given his walking papers. Sean will be in camp. I think media is making more out of that situation than is warranted. Yes he should be here working out with the guys but those sessions are called voluntary for a reason. He will be here. Of that you can bank on.
|
Re: Redskins sign free safety
I think that Bowen will be on the outs. I'm a big Sean Taylor and everynbody knows that but hey the guy will be in camp. He knows that we will be the captain of this defense one day. Ryan Clark is not going anyway for the way that he played last year for us. Prioleau and Hall just got here so the rest is history.
|
Re: Redskins sign free safety
Bowen will make $1M this year in base salary and $2M next year, that's high for a backup safety. Luckily his SB was reasonable, $1.6M spread over 4 years. He definitely looks like a possible camp cut.
|
Re: Redskins sign free safety
Though this gives us considerable depth at safety, we are thinner at CB. I wonder if Williams sees any of these guys as possible converts?
|
Re: Redskins sign free safety
we only carried 4 active cb's on the roster last year... smoot , springs, harris and jimoh
wilds and rufus came in when smoot and springs were injured, they came from the practice spuad. so we might carry 5 safties |
Re: Redskins sign free safety
wasnt Lott a corner in college??
|
Re: Redskins sign free safety
I don't see Bowen getting cut, he played really well before the injury and he's a good locker room/team guy.
It looks like a bargaining chip move with Taylor, sadly. |
Re: Redskins sign free safety
How about this: He wasn't signed to replace anyone specific, but to overstock the position to make for a good competition in camp. Let the best men win!
Before his injury, Bowen was on pace for a break-out season, so I don't know if they would cut him, unless it's purely a salary cap management decision... I could see it also as a possible "insurance policy" for Taylor, since it seems that no one knows what he's really up to....aside from his personal spokesman Clinton Portis that is.... |

yes he was.... |

He looked great in William's system.....I think we need to remember that BOTH Bowen and Lott are coming off of serious knee injuries where you see the best progress TWO YEARS after the injury. Not to say they can't play.....but I have always heard that it is TWO YEARS removed from injuries like that! |
Re: Redskins sign free safety
Bowen did look good in week one last year, BUT my reasoning for him being a potential cut is due to his salary.
He's making starter money so unless he wins a job, we could save some valuable cap space by letting him go. |

Re: Redskins sign free safety
When you look at Hall's size, well, the news isn't good for Bowen.
|
Re: Redskins sign free safety
I agree. Bowen looked great in that first game and had two marginal games after that.

Re: Redskins sign free safety
gibbs is getting sick of sean taylor, he's not at camp and he's not even returning joe's phone calls. the skins are gonna look to trade taylor for a first round draft pick in next years draft, unless taylor changes his ways and starts acting like a team player. he is the only player with an UNEXCUSED absence from camp.

Totally agree. Redskins pride is forefront, Coach Gibbs wants 'Redskins' not U Princesses. |
Re: Redskins sign free safety
would'nt surprise me if the skins looked at former bear rw mcquarters.
