R.W. McQuarters
Just heard that McQuarters was released today from the Bears. I thought he could really help us out by both playing cornerback and safety. I also see that we picked up Hall from Atl. I'm not mad because thats another starter from a playoff team. So I was just wondering would you all consider McQuarters if he came cheap.
|
Re: R.W. McQuarters
I don't think the Skins will be interested.
|
Re: R.W. McQuarters
i think we have enough depth at safety and cornerback.
|
Re: R.W. McQuarters
I can't wait...there will be a thread for every nfl player that is released now through June. should we get him???????

Haha you can count on it |
Re: R.W. McQuarters
U all know I'll take him, he can play the cb position and is special teams, but only if he'll be cheaper than chad morton, then I'd be all for it
|
Re: R.W. McQuarters
not gonna happen
|
Re: R.W. McQuarters
skins officially signed corey hall anyway
and if you notice a trend...williams likes S's who have played CB in the past (clark, prioleau, lott, now hall) have played CB in their college or nfl careers thats why williams usually carries on 4 active CB's on gameday with the rest S's who can play man if needed |
Re: R.W. McQuarters
This is why we should have taken Mike Williams in the draft! Instead of an unknown talent in Rogers, we could have gotten our receiver AND a proven talent in McQuarters........................................
|
Re: R.W. McQuarters
If there were a decent DE, perhaps a cap casualty, if we could afford him, then I'd be tempted ..... otherwise.............let's pass on all other positions..............
|
Re: R.W. McQuarters
It just might happen:
http://www.suntimes.com/output/bears/cst-spt-bear251.html It doesn't look like it will take cornerback R.W. McQuarters long to find work, either. McQuarters, also released by the Bears this week, is expected to visit the Washington Redskins, who already have Shawn Springs, first-round pick Carlos Rogers and ex-Bear Walt Harris at cornerback. He also could fill punt-returning duties as the Redskins are going to cut ties with Chad Morton and might not want to use wide receiver Santana Moss in that role. The Miami Dolphins also are believed to have interest in McQuarters. |
McQuarters to visit Skins
I told you all that we would be interested. This guy has a lot of talent and just returning kicks. He is avery good cover corner. I mean he could play safety like he did in Chicago or play the corner. You can never have enough cover corners on one team. I hope we can get him without spending too much. Hey give him a incentive-contract where we can get the very best from him.
|
Re: R.W. McQuarters
i think we have enough good corners, but another one won't hurt. i wouldn't mind signing him if it was for like the league minimum.

Yeah. I just dont think we can count on Rogers to be a good corner this year. Some rookies take some time to develop, which is fine. I think when we have guys like Walt Harris, and possible RW McQuarters; we can be much more comfortable at the corner position. I'd like to think Carlos Rogers will be a good cornerback next season, but I dont know that he will be. As long as this move didnt involve too much money, I wouldnt mind brining him aboard. |

An unknown talent? Carlos was a 4yr starter at AU! He has size and speed. I read somewhere a statistic that less than 30% of passes were completed against Rogers in all 4yrs. He`s a physical tackler, he`s a clutch player... He`s not unknown to alot of people in the NFL that`s why he was rated so high on so many teams boards. I know... The draft is a crap shoot yadda, yadda but don`t tell me the Skins didnt know what they were gettin in Carlos. Proven talent? R.W. McQuarters? This dude aint no ace in the hole at 30yrs old man... He has a whopping 10 INT`s and broke the 50tkl mark only twice in his entire 8yr career. I don`t see it? |
Yeah. I just dont think we can count on Rogers to be a good corner this year.
Wow... I couldnt disagree with that statement any more. Rogers will be a starter this year. Flat out. Mark my words, Carlos will destroy Harris in a head to head compitition for that job. If it`s not announced during camp then SHORTLY into the regular season. Oh, and the next 6 to 10 yrs after that too. |
Re: R.W. McQuarters
Hey, it makes more sense than the Jetskins....we'd be the Bearskins! Daniels, Holdman, and McQuarters - if we could only get the Fridge and Payton.

I'm not saying that he wont be good, or I'm not trying to say he sucks or anything. I watched Auburn alot last year, but dont know a WHOLE ton about the guy. I'm just saying that we cant put be 100% flat out positve that Rogers, a rookie is going to come in and be able to start on an NFL team from day one. That's why I dont mind if we bring some back up to the team, so that he dosent have as much pressure and can easy in a little bit. Nothing against the guy. |

We are NOT going to get him for the league minimum...........he is a player! and will demand a little bit of coin, which we might have when we release these players after June 1st (even though we need to sign our rookies etc.......). McQuarters would be a starter right away on the defense! And whoever said you can't have enough cover corners is RIGHT ALL THE WAY! |

He did everything asked of him and made serious plays, albeit against second stringers but he looked like a man among boys there. And what happened? He didn't even get to start right away! Carlos Rogers will need to have like 5 or 6 interceptions and no completions against him to even be considered to start early. He may start by the end of the year but I wouldn't expect to seem him as anything but our 3rd corner until weeks 4 or 5 at best. |

Just got here today. New avatars are damn nice.

If we get McQuarters, he won't touch the starting lineup until the end of the season. It's hard enough for a rookie to adjust to the NFL, let alone Williams' defense where DBs do just about everything that could be asked of them. |
Re: R.W. McQuarters
What about our depth at positions we REALLY need it? :(
|
Re: R.W. McQuarters
Read Post and Times articles on McQuarters saying it is likely he would leave with a Contract......I hope we sign him.....!! They say we are looking at starting Walt and Shawn at corner to start the season, but I think this guy might be a better option than Walt.....but thats just me....what do yall think?? I haven't forgotten about Rogers......but I think he might play in dime and nickel situation to start!

Re: R.W. McQuarters
Depth, depth and more depth.
With a D-line that can't be relied upon to generate much pressure on their own, it's critical that Williams has plenty of depth and versatility in his secondary. McQuarters would be a nice sign, plus he can return kicks. |
Re: R.W. McQuarters
How old is McQuarters? Could he be a replacement for Springs in the future? Or is Springs young enough to be here a while?
|
Re: R.W. McQuarters
Springs is 30, McQuarters 29
|
Re: R.W. McQuarters
Oh, thanks. LOL
I didn't know Springs was that young. Sooo anyway, I'll just say "added depth." :) |
Re: R.W. McQuarters
I think that added depth is a very good thing at safety/cb positions. especially considering what happened last year with injuries. having someone that has started both positions (I think he has ???) is a real value. again I'll say I'm excited about this coming season!!
|
Re: R.W. McQuarters
I like that we have 4 potential starters at CB. It's like having OEM parts for a car. Just plug 'n' play and you're good to go.

Re: R.W. McQuarters
What exactly is it that McQuarters has done throughout his career that leads Redskins fans to believe that he is some high calibur, big time, immediate starter, free agent dynamo?
Because from where I`m standing, he appears to be more of a ~tail end of a not so illustrious career, best days are behind him, oh wow he can return kicks kinda guy... What have I been missing? Did the Bears release the best kept secret in the NFL? Has he secretly been elected to several pro bowls that I`m unaware of? Is he the illegitimate son Greg Williams? Someone please explain what it is that makes R.W. McQuarters such a signifigant addition to the Washington Redskins? Because I personally still don`t see it? |
Re: R.W. McQuarters
I don't think that anyone has alluded to him being the Super Bowl secret to the Redskins defense. I think we are mainly seeing him as a person who can step in, in case someone goes down.

Didn't the press conference address other issues too? |

Because I personally still don`t see it?
For the simple fact that GWilliams and Co have interest in him. If they think that he will be a good addition to the team, why should we question him? Maybe they actually know what they're doing; after all they did turn our D into one of the more feared units in the league last year. |
Re: R.W. McQuarters
Not only that, there are a number of coaches AND players who have lots of previous experience with him.
|
Re: R.W. McQuarters
They're loooking for DB depth. He was in Chicago with Blache and the others. He's not a BAD player. The press conference was a regular briefing by Gibbs. He only mentioned McQuarters when asked by a reporter, and said that he'd be a nice addition, that he'd worked with 5 of the coaches before, etc. BUt don't expect them to break the bank. They don't have any real cap space anyway. We'll see.
This isn't the next Deon fiasco. Don't worry! ;) |
Re: R.W. McQuarters
Exactly. I think that the overspending days are gone. Possibly questionable draft pick, but that's about it as far as us having a bad offseason. When you really think about it, judging by who was available and for what price, we had a GREAT offseason.
We did what we could with Coles. We addressed areas of need. We defined our receiving corps without having to draft anyone. Personally, with other factors in the league, I'm not sure it could have gone any better. |

We didn't pick up a nice receiver (yet) and I think Coles REAMED us... We didn't address all areas of need, we have depth at LB but no clear cut starter in the middle yet. We have no pass rushing DE that we all said we coveted in the draft or through FA. Hopefully that is also a not yet comment... We haven't really cleared up much of anything except that we aren't going to over pay... I don't think it has been a great offseason, but time will tell if we made the right decisions... |
Re: R.W. McQuarters
Like I said, we did the best we could with Coles. That's the only turd in the bowl in my opinion of this offseason.
I think that Moss IS a nice receiver and we always seem to forget that Patten's YAC is ridiculous. Most of Moss' receptions go for first downs (77%) and Patten's YAC is around 20.0. Taylor Jacobs is poised for a break-out season (or a cut next year). We have Phillip Daniels returning who should provide a great rush and our other ends provided pretty good pressure up front. The reason I mention our receivers is that I'm not just thinking about our team, I'm also thinking about what's available. The only receiver in that was available this year that I would have liked to have had was Derrick Mason, but again at what cost? There were options available in the draft but WR wasn't REALLY a position of need. CB definitely was. When I say we had a great offseason, I like to think of it in the whole picture of things. I'm still concerned about the Campbell pick, but as you said, time will tell about that one. And also just like you said, we cleared up that we weren't going to overpay. To get the players that you stated that we needed (what was available in the offseason AND in the draft) we would have overpaid in either monetary funds or draft picks. It's definitely subjective how you view this year's draft, but I think with what was available, ours was a success. |
Re: R.W. McQuarters
Nobody is saying McQuarters is a savior, but let me ask these two questions, is he an upgrade to our depth? Is he better than say, Jimoh and Wilds?
My answer is without a doubt yes to both questions. Plus the guy is a valuable return man. I don't see what's not to like about picking him up. |
