Re: Chip Kelly Fired
...because of the Redskins
At least partly :-) |
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
Not surprising, like I said earlier today he'll be back in college in no time. He's just not cut out for this level. He ran them into the ground.
|
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
Wow. I am surprised that it was before the end of the season.
Sent from my S6 Edge |
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
Wouldn't be surprised if chip was told by Lurie that a gm was being hired and all personnel decisions were out of his hands....chip was probably looking for an out and said nope, just let me go
|
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
How many days before he lands a plush college job? Are there any left? He might have to wait a year.
|
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
The captain obvious statement of the year....the Disasater of a franchise that is the Tennessee Titans will take a long look....and they should. I think chip needs to operate at a less stressful market.
one thing that should be on the Titans mind is how chip handled grown men....how he let shady and desean go was gutless, no class. Riley cooper welcomed back with open arms after saying the most racist thing ever. Look at Jason peters...all pro said fuck him, I'm done for the night. Chip ego and handling grown men like kids...was a fucking jackass, piece of shit. Im proud we buried this guy |
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
Chip the GM got Chip the HC fired. His personnel moves gutted the team.
|
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
DESEAN is still Dabbing......LOL
|
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
I was hoping he'd stick in Philly and get rid of Murray and further run the team into the ground.
|
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
Another one bites the dust.
|
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
Philly will be bad for a while, they need so much it's not even funny
|
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
Let's just make this the week 17 thread as well.
|
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
Could not happen to a nicer guy! lolol
|
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
I'm enjoying how bad this makes Jeffrey Lurie look, is he really so impatient that he couldn't wait a week and do it on Black Monday? My only disappointment is that we won't get to see the regression continue into next season for the Eagles.
|
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
I cannot wait to see the Twitterverse explode -- you think DeMarco Murray, DJax, LeSean McCoy, and Jeremy Maclin (among others) might have a few thoughts about this.
I wonder if Coughlin survives. I like him and think he's a heck of a coach, but there have been grumblings. And Jason Garrett cannot feel too good about his status given the comments from Jones about the Texans' success with Brandon Weeden reflecting bad coaching in Dallas. Could it be that Jay Gruden is the lone survivor this season?? Personally, I hope it doesn't happen. If Coughlin is to go, the guy should at least make the decision to retire on his own -- 2 rings ought to buy that right. Mara would be an even bigger turd if he canned him. And Garrett and Kelly -- I would love to see them continue to coach underperforming teams in Dallas and Philly indefinitely. |
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
Kind of surprised at the Kelly firing. He had two 10 win seasons, and i thought if nothing else, he might be forced to give up personnel decisions so that he could stay on. I felt like he had a decent offense when it showed up, plus a good QB in Sam Bradford. I wonder if Bradford stays when they get a new coach??
|
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
Coughlin will be asked to retire, if he doesn't agree then the ax will fall.
|
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
Apparently, Kelly was asked to give up personnel control, and he balked. And Lurie showed him the door.
No humility. None. And there will be players all over the place trashing him, I will bet. I wonder whether the Titans hire him to work with Mariota. |
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
It is up to Chip if he wants to stay in the NFL or go back to NCAA. There are too many NFl teams that need a good coach and Chip is a good coach.
Tennessee Titans have his favorite QB and a fan base that will probably love him. |
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
But will he put his ego aside and just coach instead of handle personnel? He wouldn't do it in Philly, although he could have perceived that as a demotion of sorts, and perhaps different than starting out without those duties with a new NFL team. He wants to follow the Parcells, "If you're cooking the meal, you should get to pick the groceries" model. But as I think we all know, chip Kelly is no Bill Parcells.

Basically the Jeffrey Lurie told Kelly he was taking away personnel decisions and hiring a GM. I think the owner expected him to agree to this, but Kelly balked leaving him no choice. I think the reason they didn't wait until after the season was because by Monday they want to start looking for a GM. While you can say Kelly the coach did well, Kelly the GM was god awful. |
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
Mara is an ass*ole.
Jones is an egotistical blowhard. Lurie is just an overall mess. Can't think of a particular term for him. Snyder = best owner in NFC East with best team in NFC East. Yeah buddy!!! HTTR!!! |

Re: Chip Kelly Fired
It's nice not being the NFC East dumpster fire. I think CK wanted to leave Philly, or otherwise, he would have compromised. He is a smart person; he knew he was going to have to give up some of his power.
When your star running back goes to the owner, and then you basically bench him the following weeks, something has to change. Because of the contract, you can't cut him or trade him, you are stuck with an expensive shiny toy, you refuse to use. It's easier to let the coach go and start over, but the damage is done. Look at all of the talent Andy Reid accumulated while he was head coach. |
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
I'd thought Chip probably deserved one more year, but with the types of moves he made in the off-season, his ass was definitely on the line. The moves weren't that bad, but I think he gave up way too much for Bradford in the Noles trade. Bradford was going to be cut so giving up your starting QB plus a 4th and 2nd rounder was stupid as fuck. Didn't have issue with the McCoy trade for Kiko. Not like McCoy did anything of worth in Buffalo. Now the biggest head scratcher was the Murray signing....wtf was he thinking with that shit?
|
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
I remember when he brought in Bradford, and just kinda figured that was gonna cause them to slide. The Demarco Murray contract is a huge problem, if they cut him its a huge cap hit. I think they are probably gonna need a year or two to recover from the moves he made.

Re: Chip Kelly Fired
He deserved to get fired. Not surprised at all. Who would think that the Redskins are the most stable franchise in the NFC East. lol.

I feel like I'm in alternate universe. The skins and stable franchise in the same sentence! |
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
Lurie just couldn't let him handle personnel anymore. Chip saw the writing on the wall and said no to that to get canned. Now apparently he'll take a straight coaching job. What he really needs is to go back to college or be an OC for a few years. Going back to being a coordinator he could learn a little more about handling pros. Belichek did it and now look. I do feel pretty stoked we're not the dysfunctional team in the division. Maybe we're the only one right now. Certainly some turmoil. Giants are a mess and what exactly has Garrett ever done to keep that job? Hell he got saved this year with a built in excuse. Bizarro world for us.

Re: Chip Kelly Fired
I dunno, everything I read about Kelly's offense was that it was very basic but that tempo and execution were supposed to make up for its simplicity. His only success came with the remnants of Reid's roster which was actually pretty damn good.
To me, that's K-Gun / Muddle Huddle stuff. Yes, he was a lousy personnel guy but not willing to give him a pass on the x's and o's at this point. With better personnel (Shady, DJax, Maclin), sure it was a success. However, it always struck me as more smoke and mirrors than as a sustainable game plan. Wish he was still there. I predict that the only success he will ever have is on the college level. He will never be a good coordinator b/c he is a one trick pony and is unlikely to learn and implement other coaches methods. He will never turn a franchise around as a coach b/c his system only works if it has talented players. He's just not a pro. |
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
i dunno, i'm sure he'll get another shot, and his offenses ran pretty well with not amazing QBs. definitely shouldn't be allowed near personnel discussions, but he's done a lot better than most other first time college-> NFL coaches.
I mean, i wouldn't want him as my team's HC, but there are plenty of mediocre head coaches that manage to get 2nd 3rd and 4th jobs in the NFL. |
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
This is all quite humorous.
The rest of NFC implodes and for once the Redskins look competitive and competent. This is a good week. Tonight I will toast Chip Potato Face Kelly with some Jim Beam Devils Cut. |
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
I felt that his up tempo offense just wasn't well suited to the NFL. When they scored, they scored too quickly. When they went three and out, it seemed to happen in the blink of an eye. Then they put heir defense right back on the field without adequate rest. By the 4th quarter, when most NFL games are won or lost, their defense was gassed.
|
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
The Patriots run a lot of up tempo stuff. It's not the scheme. It always comes down to players and how you fit them into your scheme. That's where Chip failed. He would have been better off making a move for Tyrod Taylor over Bradford.
And sorry but you just can't run off Jackson, Maclin and McCoy and expect to keep your job. |

He may be good x and o...jury out imo, but he doesn't handle professional athletes very well and he alienated his locker room. Plus the whole GM thing, he has proven to be effing terrible at that. No NFL team will give him personnel control every again. |

Plus the whole GM thing, he has proven to be effing terrible at that. No NFL team will give him personnel control every again.[/quote] This is exactly right. He's a bad NFL coach, but a good NFL offensive coordinator. Offensive coordinator's job is to call plays and put players in position to succeed on offense. NFL head coach's job is to keep the team together, oversee the operation, motivate, delegate, and lead men. Kelly was bad at all of the things required of an NFL head coach, but great with all of the things required of an offensive coordinator. And he was an even worse GM. |
Re: Chip Kelly Fired
Murray will be so much better next year. Whoever they get to be the HC is highly likely to employ a more traditional rushing attack, running from under center, etc.
I doubt Murray gets back to his 2014 Dallas productivity because he won't have that same stud offensive line and no Bill Callahan, but he'll finally be able to gain a head of steam and run downhill. He'll get back to 1000+ yards. RB won't be their problem. QB will be a disaster. There's no reason for Bradford to want to return, he'll look at the Eagles on the same footing as any other NFL team in need of a QB, they're a team with a new head coach with whom he'll need to establish a rapport. They have Sanchez under contract, it will probably be him and a rookie. |

Lane Johnson has not panned at RT, probably a below average starter by NFL standards. Jason Kelce at Center is still good-very good player. But their guards are horrific. They have a lot of work to do along the line. I think Demarco Murray would be great at Dallas or here in DC, but Eagles have too many questions along the line and with future scheme. As for Bradford, terrible scheme fit for Kelly, but I think his future with the Eagles depends on the HC hire. I think Bradford will be highly sought after if he hits the market. The Eagles have god aweful WRs...lotta drops |
