I feel like we're still in good shape with P. Smith, but we could have been deadly with a healthy JG in there too.

P Smith just became verryyyyy important

Shitty timing, right before camp. Junior seems to be made out of glass, like I said in a previous thread, who's our pass rusher? Smith due to Galette's health issues.

please don't waste money and or time bothering to sign him again next year . . . talk about a man getting paid for doing nothing . . . damn!! . . . sounds to me like too many steroids which abuse of has been know to weaken tendons.

KJarrett also waived due to nerve damage. That's worse news than Gallette.

very!! . . . dude was a complete jackass before, hence why the saints cut him . . . and to tear consecutive achilles tendons either means he naturally has something wrong (just born with weak achilles, very rare) or he has don't something to weaken them . . . the number 1 cause of weak tendons is steroid abuse

Well now... Man the sound of a Murphy Baker Smith Gallete Kerrigan rush made me drool. Next man up.

As good as he could we were fooled into thinking he could have made a difference. New plan time.

Can we release him? I don't remember the details of his contract.

its a one year deal . . . so he will get paid nonetheless . . . just don't sign him again.

Do yall know anything about this kid Cravens is he suited for that spot??? im just asking.

Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)

better to happen before camp so we have more time to prepare. Spot just opened up. It this woulda happened couple days before the season, well, sky would be falling and less time to prepare.

Cravens been at ILB and SS...but you never know, maybe JG going down opens up something in the scheme where he could get more PT in sub packages.

I bet we could trade our 1st and 2nd next year for an older vet. Get Vinny on the phone!!!

Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)

He had a unique fast twitch skill set that no other player on the roster has.

A double achilles tear is a career ending injury or close to it.

I'm really glad we have a real GM now who didn't mortgage the farm to bring him in.

SolidSnake84 07-25-2016 07:18 PM

Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)

Will probably be career-ending for Gallete. He'd be 30 years old when healed essentially trying to come back from TWO torn Achilles Tendons. He could play again but seriously doubtful.

Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)

:( I got nothing. Actually I feel this is the biggest hype train fail since Taylor Jacobs. But given that he never played a down for us I am not upset about the loss of production. McC hopefully has a contingency plan.

Also I am just as devastated about the loss of Kyshoen Jarrett. At this stage he's probably worried about his quality of life given that he has no strength in his arm. I really hope he/his doctors figure out a plan to at least gain his strength back.

ILB and Safety. Im thinking no but wtf do I know. We really could use him at ILB and S anyway so it would be kind of like robbing from Peter to pay Paul.

Positions are just titles for a guy like him. He will be a wildcard. He'll be on the LOS, but you won't know whether he's blitzing or dropping back into coverage. Maybe he'll do both out of the same look in the same game. Maybe he'll start deep but once the play starts he'll come on a delayed blitz. Maybe he'll be in coverage. Who knows. Maybe he'll be spying the qb. He could be subbed for any position except for d-line. He's our swiss army knife.

Quite possible. But we still need to field 11 starters on defense was more my point. Yes though his potential diversity could help make up for a drop off with Galette gone.

Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)

Between Kerrigan and Smith(if he's the player we think he is)our pass rush might still be decent but man, with Galette in there it could've been killer. This just plain sucks

Is it time to move on? He's had a lot of injuries recently and he'll be 29 next season..

Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)

Well, not what I wanted to hear....crap, I thought he was all the way back too.

With P Smith on the rise, this was really a low-risk, high reward situation.

We shall survive.

On the bright side, there are 3 pages of threads on Galette and not one person said "Pootie Tang" :silly:

Now is there any room for Trent Murphy back as OLB? We have little left after Smith and Kerrigan.

Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)

I hate to say this, but I was never expecting Galette to play this year in the first place. No, I am not psychic, I just had this feeling that he was not going to work out. I thought Preston Smith greatly improved as the season went on this past year, and I have no problems with continuing to develop him as a linebacker. I think the 'skins will be more than OK. Sure, if Galette were to have played and been everything we thought he had the potential of being, that would have been fantastic. But, I'm not too upset. Don't get me wrong, I'm upset for Junior Galette. The man has worked hard to try to get back in there and it's a shame he's suffered another serious injury like this. I really hate it for him, but the sky isn't falling by any stretch.

I don't think so...he has put on the weight and began the transition. It would be asinine to change up a strategy based solely on JG...a player who has actually never played for us...I don't feel like we are losing a starter.

Schneed10 07-26-2016 10:47 AM

Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)

For me this is depressing. The only thing I'll cling to are the media reports that Preston looked amazing in mini camp. Several said he looked like the best player on the field, including Keim who I really respect as a detailed football guy.

But still, there's not much rotation now. You need Kerrigan and Smith to be on the field all damn game. You wonder if they'll have gas in the tank in the 4th quarter when it's really time to get after the QB.

We can't take another injury at OLB.

Schneed10 07-26-2016 10:50 AM

Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)

Pass rush isn't about having your two best edge rushers on the field, it's about having as many as you can possibly get on the field at the same time for obvious passing downs.

You wanted Kerrigan, Galette, and Preston all out there at the same time for nickel. That would be hard to handle. This just sucks because McCloughan watched the Packers playoff game and knew we needed to upgrade the rush. Galette was going to be the difference between the lineup we fielded in that game and what we rolled out in Week 1 this year.

Now we're in the same boat. We need another.
