Playoff hunt!
Now that we're getting closer to the end of the regular season, I figured I'd start a thread where we talk about our playoff hunt. First of all as we all know, we are in control of our destiny. Thanks to that half win against Cincinnati, if we win out we are in. Doesnt matter what anyone else does. BUT, if we lose this week it gets really interesting. Especially for the Bucs, if they win and we lose, they would actually take our spot with a half game lead, albeit with a tough upcoming schedule. Meanwhile the Vikings almost scare me more than the Bucs, as they sit at 6-6 with what looks like a fairly easy schedule. Huge that Dallas beat them, but I could still see them finishing with 9 or 10 wins. And if the 5-6 Saints, Packers, or Eagles win + we lose, they would still be alive, just half a game behind us. Point is, we are by no means assured a playoff spot. This Sunday against Arizona is a huge game for us!!
Here are the schedules for our two biggest challengers right now: 6-5 Bucanneers: at Chargers, vs Saints, at Cowboys, at Saints, vs Panthers 6-6 Vikings: at Jaguars, vs Colts, at Packers, vs Bears And current NFC playoff standings: 1. Cowboys 2. Seahawks 3. Lions 4. Falcons 5. Giants 6. Redskins Buccaneers Vikings Saints Packers Eagles Cardinals Panthers Rams Bears 49ers(eliminated) |

I think we're in a great position to EARN our place into the playoffs but it doesn't look like we'll get in on luck alone. Vikings remaining schedule seems to be the easiest however they have been struggling as of late. From here on out, EVERY game is important. |

if we win tomorrow which we should, we are basically in. The bucs have a tough schedule left and they are the only true scare for us

Lotta football left. One game at a time...cardinals on the road will not be easy.
Sunday will have a huge impact on Washington’s odds of reaching the playoffs. The Upshot’s simulator gives the Redskins a 72-percent chance to make the playoffs if they beat the Arizona Cardinals in Arizona this weekend. If they lose? Trouble. The odds fall to 38 percent. Entering the game, Washington has essentially a 50-50 shot to get in, according to the web site’s calculations.
Now, this was written before the Vikings lost on Thursday, so it may not be quite this dramatic now, but still... |

Re: Playoff hunt!
Well what happened today was just about worst case for us. The Bucs' win + our loss moves them into the 6th spot over us. Like I said in the op, they have some tough games coming up(vs Saints, at Cowboys, at Saints, vs Panthers), but they look good right now. Actually depending on how 7-5 Atlanta finishes the season, we may be fighting them for the wild card instead of TB. Some other bad news also as the Packers moved up to 6-6, half a game behind us. At least the Saints and Eagles lost, both teams for all intents and purposes are now out of it
Current NFC playoff standings: 1. Dallas 2. Seattle 3. Detroit 4. Atlanta 5. New York 6. Tampa Bay Washington Minnesota Green Bay Arizona New Orleans Philadelphia Carolina Los Angeles Chicago San Francisco (eliminated) |

If we get to 9-6-1, we make it. Any less than winning 3 of the next 4 and its on to the off season.

We should beat PHI, CAR and CHI. If we don't we shouldn't make it anyway

Re: Playoff hunt!
It's not out of play that New York collapses here to end the season and leaves that first wild card spot for the taking. Their remaining games are vs Cowboys, vs Lions, at Eagles, at Redskins. They could easily lose 3 out of those 4 and finish 9-7
We have to win next Sunday. It's a running joke here to call must win games, but this really is a must win. Just too many solid teams right around us to drop one to a team we should easily beat. Win against the Eagles to get to 7-5-1, and we still have a chance |

Even if we lose the WC game again I'd still be happy with the season. Back to back playoff appearances mean you are getting there. We'll see what happens. Remember we started off 0-2 and won 4 straight. We can win 4 in a row again now. |

This! Cam, as much as I can't stand him, will pick up every 3rd and 4 by running against our D, and score 2 TD's himself to give us his superman pose on primetime TV on Monday night. We will HAVE to score every possession to win that game...and I'm sure Luke Kuechly will be back by then as well. |

True. That certainly is not a given but let's hope they play as well against them as they did in their first meeting. |

If we can't beat the atrocious Philly team I watched play yesterday against the Bengals, well then we should just call it a season and not even stress over the playoffs. |

Re: Playoff hunt!
Remaining schedules for teams who are truly vying for a playoff spot....
Giants: vs. Cowboys, vs. Lions, @ Eagles, @ Redskins Buccaneers: vs. Saints, @ Cowboys, @ Saints, vs. Panthers Falcons: @ Rams, vs. 49ers, @ Panthers, vs. Saints Cardinals: @ Dolphins, vs. Saints, @ Seahawks, @ Rams Packers: vs. Seahawks, @ Bears, vs. Vikings, @ Lions Vikings: @ Jags, vs. Colts, @ Packers, vs. Bears Personally, I don't think the Vikings will be a factor. But, I added them to the equation because they're technically still in the playoff hunt. On paper, the Falcons has the easiest road amongst this group. I sense the Packers and Cardinals will lose a couple more games, so I think they'll stay behind us in the hunt. We need to hope for a Giant, Buccaneer, and/or Falcon implosion. Basically, we just need to take care of business these next 3 weeks. The Giants, Bucs, and Falcons are gonna lose a game or two in the next 3 weeks, and we need to take advantage of the opportunity. Win the next 3, and we're likely in. Win four in a row, and I'm quite confident we'll be in. |
Re: Playoff hunt!
We need Seattle to keep winning so Dallas doesn't lock the # 1 seed. We also need the Cowboys to keep winning (vomit in my throat).

Good thing Cam doesnt play like Cam anymore. Past 3 games he has 11 runs for 25 total yards. So of course he will bust out his Superman on us .. As a sports fan, all I can ask for is competitive meaningful games to get hyped about and watch. |

Re: Playoff hunt!
I just don't see how we can win many games with a defense that gives up 30 points a game. At this point i think Jay, if he is extended, needs to think long and hard about bringing back Barry. We can win these remaining games in theory but the offense is going to have to produce 400 yards and at perhaps at minimum 4 TDs every game. It will be difficult but thats the only way we can win with our defense.
At the beginning of this year, i had us at 8-8, and now with the tie that won't happen, but 8-7-1 could in some scenarios be good enough to make the playoffs using that playoff machine, but we are going to have to win two more games, which will be tough. |

Nope......dont want to lose to the Lions or the Cowboys again. Feck that... Time to start digging into more serious draftnik stuff. |

Re: Playoff hunt!
We don't have the defense to win a playoff game. It's not the 2009-10 season, when the Saints won it all.
We don't have the defense to win a playoff game. It's not the 2009-10 season, when the Saints won it all.
Sure we do. If you consider Dallas a true contender for it all than you have to believe we can beat anybody even with our D. KC and company have to play to their full potential (which is tantamount to the best offense there is), and the D just has to basically show up. We cannot have brain farts either. If this team shows up in the playoffs and looks like they did a handful of times this year than they can certainly win a game. Whether they show up or not is another argument, but they can. We have seen it. |

Barry has next to nothing in the way of playmakers on the defense. I do not know if he is the guy, but I would bring him back and see what he can do with a couple more pieces. Plus continuity is never a bad thing. We are 6-5-1. Of those five games there is one that we really never had a shot at. Week one. Our D was absolutely gassed on turkey day which is one of the 30 point games. We could easily be 11-1 rite now. That is a fact. You tell me one game besides Pittsburgh that we did not have a real chance to win. There is not one. The fact that we are 6-5-1 and uber competitive in 11 of those games is a testament to something? Because our talent level on D is below par. So staff and or offense is doing something very rite. We absolutely have a chance to win every single game left on our schedule and than some. Nobody in the league is miles above us. We proved that playing Dallas so tough twice. |
Re: Playoff hunt!
I really don't care what the other teams do. We need to take care of business Sun and go from there. We need to beat a down and out Eagles team. It won't be easy. They're at home and will probably play hard.

Re: Playoff hunt!
Can't see us winning in the playoffs. We get the #3 seed, which is either
Seattle or Detroit. Rawls is clicking now and Detroit is getting stronger, while we are in a defensive funk. Defense wins championships and playoff games as well. Barry better start coaching like his job is on the line, because it is. We have a lack of talent there for sure, but you need to make adjustments in your scheme/play calling to compensate for that. Our offense is tight, but our defense is just pitiful at times. Half our defensive starters are glorified backups. I am not giving up hope as the defense has shined many times this season, but they are way too inconsistent to win against more solid teams. |

They beat the vikings jags and saints. All were close games. Do you really think it is going out on a limb to say we could beat Detroit? Also as far as Barry, when given lemons, make lemonade. However Barry was given mostly rotten eggs ..... extremely hard to work with those no matter how much you scheme.... You cannot scheme and gameplan to make up for a lack of talent. There are no schemes that call for a lack of speed. There are no schemes that call for poor tackling. There are no schemes that call for getting lost in coverage. |
