Redskins 2018 O/S needs post Alex Smith Trade.

Ok now that it's been a couple days and we all now understand Alex is the guy to build around for the next 3 years lets look at possibilities via FA and the Draft to help the guy win games like he did in KC/SF.

What are your thoughts on talent to surround him with?

I don't expect a huge FA period for the skins but I can see a couple guys signed.

1. He needs someone else to throw the ball to, Doctson is not a number 1 WR just yet so lets look at guys that we could bring in.

SAMMY WATKINS

RZ threat and good pos wr, had 8 TDS this yr in LA, I doubt he would want to leave the Rams but if they choose to look away he would be a solid cheaper pick up.

ERIC DECKER

Another solid pos guy that we really need over the middle of the field, yeah he's probably not a popular option but he could also be cheap and productive in Jays system.

Finally

JARVIS LANDRY

He would be the big splash guy but IMO he is nothing more than a great slot WR, we already have Crowder who isn't as good but is still young and productive every yr.

I would add RB's but honestly its L Bell or nobody with the group that is available.

Defense I think we can address via the draft, unless we can somehow pry D Lawrence away from Dallas (not happening).

What do you guys think needs to be done now the QB situation is finalized?

I don't know what players, but I think we need to add
through FA
WR
OG
CB

The draft
DL
RB
CB
a punt returner to get Crowder out of that position

For a nice even number, if we can sign/resign/draft a total of 10 players I'd want:

WR
ILB
ILB
RB
LG
CB
CB
FS
EDGE
NT* EDITED - KNEW I WAS FORGETTING 1 POS.

Not in any particular order.

Blocking TE would be next on my list.

From that I would say WR preference (1,2,3)
Paul Richardson
Marquise Lee
Jarvis Landry

RB - not much outside of Le'Veon but I wouldn't mind bring Alfmo back

Re: Redskins 2018 O/S needs post Alex Smith Trade.

To me the most pressing need is a power running game and stopping the run on defense. These are the most basic foundation building blocks of any good team and we can not do either and cannot seem to fix it over the last couple of years.

LG - replace over priced and frequently injured Shawn Lauvao. This to me is the single most important roster move last year and this year that never got done. Who the fuck in the redskins FO likes Lauvao that we do not have a young stud replacement? Good Guards are always available in the draft in the first two rounds but we always pick a WR or RB. Finish fixing the O-line first.

NT - can we get a couple of big run stopping DT/NT's that haves not had multiple season ending injuries.

TE- - we need another run blocking TE besides Davis.

We have to go back to being a physical team and not a pass happy finesse team. On both sides of the ball. I am tired of seeing our o-line not be able open up run lanes, as well as our defense get pushed around. This has to stop for us to win.

Re: Redskins 2018 O/S needs post Alex Smith Trade.

We need a TE to complement Vernon Davis. We have an out with Reed this year I say take it. He is slated to make 8.25 mil but has a dead cap of 5.4 mil. I think we can find a stop gap TE that would have more productivity for an entire season for 3 mil. Ben Watson comes to mind he is old but at least plays 16 games a season.

Let’s start by resigning Zack Brown, Trent Murphy, Breeland and possibly Gallette if he wants to return. Draft a WR and RB forget those WR’s mentioned.

Re: Redskins 2018 O/S needs post Alex Smith Trade.

I'll say it now. I WANT Isaiah Crowell. 25 years old, don't think he'd be crazy expensive. Love watching him play. Definitely be an upgrade!

On defense, what about DT Sheldon Richardson ?

Or Demarcus Lawrence, coming of a 14,5 sacks season? I'd say we need DT more than DE but we still could use him.

If we don't retain Zach Brown (which I would hate), I'm looking at Navorro Bowman and Demario Davis.

Other needs I'd address through the draft. (Except if there's a good Guard available but I won't pretend I know enough about this position on other teams to talk about it).

Re: Redskins 2018 O/S needs post Alex Smith Trade.

I’d rather go the draft route for RB but Crowell would be an interesting option.

Re: Redskins 2018 O/S needs post Alex Smith Trade.

You could do something really dumb with this Free Agent WR class...I would entirely pass on everybody unless Allen Robinson would be interested in a prove it deal....which I think most here is tired of...

2 Cap Casualty WR could be Mike Crabtree or D. Thomas (broncos)....if either one would get loose, I would take a serious look at a reasonable deal.

I wouldn't love Crowell, but its tough to evaluate him last year bc he run against constant stacked fronts with a Rookie QB who was too over matched and wasn't ready to start.

Id like to see Crowell yards after contact stat...think I have and it wasn't impressive.

Re: Redskins 2018 O/S needs post Alex Smith Trade.

I have been focused on moving forward as well. This is what I got so far...

Absolute Resign: Zach Brown, Ryan Grant, and Dustin Hopkins.

Possibly resign:

Trent Murphy- I like him as a DE OLB hybrid. My concern is that his breakout year was a drug-induced fluke.

Phil Taylor- Depth at NT

Junior Gallette- He was knocking the rust off as the season continued. I understand the logjam leading to his departure.

Niles Paul- Core Skin and special teams Ace.

Terrelle Pryor?- I think Cousin's playstyle lead to his regression. Pryor is a possession receiver.

Free Agents Targets:

Kyle Fuller- Replace one Fuller with another. Kyle is coming back from injury but I believe he is an upgrade over Breeland.

Andrew Norwell- He is my top free agent target. Norwell is an all-pro left guard that would upgrade the overall line. Give this man the Josh Norman treatment and get him signed.

Jimmy Graham- This is my wildcard, I know no one will agree with this. IMO, we should trade Jordan Reed. His health issues over the last few years make him a financial liability. The Graham-Smith connection would kill day 1.

Draft- This is where I see the most flexibility for us as a team here is my mock (Not full).

Round1: Trade down, pick up a 3rd rounder. Draft Payne or Veta
Round2: Ronald Jones II, Rashaad Penny or Nick Chub
Round3: Dante Pettis WR Washington
Round4: KYLE LAULETTA QB Richmond
Round5: Da'Shawn Hand DE Alabama ( I know a reach)

No way on Jimmy Graham, absolutely no. Im for actually cutting Vernon Davis and drafting another TE and/or finding a stronger blocking TE. I really like what Sprinkle showed his first year as well and he should move up the depth chart.

Re: Redskins 2018 O/S needs post Alex Smith Trade.

Most important thing we need to do first is resign our players - Brown, Murphy and possibly Breeland (I'm on fence regarding him - I used to like him but it seems ever since Norman signed with us, Breeland have had some kind of issues with the team) but since we are giving up Fuller, we will need a solid #2 CB. It will be interesting to see what kind of market Breeland will have.. Either way, we need to find a good replacement to fill Breeland & Fuller's shoes.

We definitely need to find a real RB.. I like Crowell, I personally think he was not in good situation with Browns. Almost every team dare Browns to throw against them and focuses on Crowell.. He is young and hungry so I can see Redskins having a good running game with Crowell and Thompson. If Crowell isn't in the picture then I wouldn't mind bringing Morris back on the team although I doubt it will be good fit. Morris did not play well under Jay's first year so I don't see how it will improve this time.

We obviously need a WR but I don't see a player that we absolutely need to sign. I like Jarvis Landry but he will be too expensive to sign.. I hope we at least will look into Donte Moncrief or Paul Richardson - both players are good at going deep, which is what Jay is looking for.

I hope we will bring Phil Taylor back but we still should find more Dline players. I prefer for us to find it through draft instead of free agency. I like Bennie Logan but I don't want us to spend lot of money on a player who will not play all downs.

Priority 1 in Dallas is signing Zach Martin long term. Priority 1A is retaining D-Law. Not likely he will make it to free agency. At least I hope he doesn't.

Although the irony would be something. After all, it was a draft day trade with Washington that Dallas moved up to grab Demarcus Lawrence.

Don't know about his yards after contact stat, he's not a huge physical back, but I really like his ability to quickly make a choice (usually the good one) and stick to it, make it work with his speed. He usually has a really good looking first cut to then burst through the hole.

Is he not that good or was it Dak? Seems to me he was balling with Romo just 2 seasons ago, he needs a QB that has the accuracy to get him the ball. I wouldn't say he's done just yet, and hes a damn good RZ target

Re: Redskins 2018 O/S needs post Alex Smith Trade.

The biggest need is for the front office to understand that we aren't going to win the division. The Eagles have turned the corner on us and we won't catch them till we put a complete team together. Our best shot is to backdoor the wild card with maybe a 9 or 10 win season at best.

Knowing this, we need to plan to add a franchise QB to the roster. If you don't like the guys available this year then maybe wait till next year but this has to be top priority right now so hopefully we can run Alex Smith out of town like all his teams have done to him because our future is limited with him.

Second biggest need is athleticism.
The team is slow and it shows.
Vernon Davis can't be our stretch the field guy again.
our 4, 5, and 6 WR need to contribute on special teams.
We can't go another year wasting valuable touches (Punt and Kick returns) on Crowder and any bum that is willing to return kicks. We need to address this. It's not like Mike Quick did anything. We need to replace him with a speed burner who can return kickoffs ( Rashad Ross Type).

Last thing, The team needs to stop wasting second round picks and draft someone who can contribute right away.

There wont be another team for 11 this is his last team, I think it will also be his most successful too, that being said yes we need to draft a QB but not this yr UNLESS you absolutely have the guy u want to take over in 3 years at #13, even then we need so much right now that I would pass on that. There will be FA's out there that can help this team win now, and as far as division goes, man that is a crapshoot..

Look at the last 6-8 years in the EAST, every team has won the division a couple times, injuries and losing guys in FA make huge impacts.. Dallas is better than us Today but wait until the season starts, same with the eagles.

Don't even count out the Gmen just yet either.

But mostly he's in the slot catching it over the middle, all things u said are true but Crowder is a top 10 slot wr. If Jarvis would come and be the 1 that would be a different story
