Around the NFL Off season thread 1.0
This can be the league news thread.
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2019-nfl-super-bowl-odds-picks-predictions-teams-to-fade-from-vegas-expert/ As of today Vegas has the PATS and EAGLES playing again next yr, of course this will almost certainly change , they also have the skins as 80/1 which ranks us at the bottom 10 of the league.... Also you guessed it, Dallas is in the top 10. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/02/07/report-bob-lamonte-fires-josh-mcdaniels/ And this is just a cluster lol, I can't blame JMC for staying but it was a bush league move. |
Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 1.0
Pats maybe, eagles no.

Why can't the Eagles repeat? They're getting back three of their best players. |
Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 1.0
Only thing harder than getting to the Super Bowl and winning it ,is repeating that. It's a 53 man roster with team chemistry and luck playing a big part.
|
Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 1.0
the last back 2 back champ was Denver right?

I'd say 30 probably and it'll be with the Jets IMO. I'm glad we didn't do that deal. |

Cousins does not have the potential that JG does.

Of course Jimmy G has more potential than Kirk, mainly because he hasn't done shit yet. In fact, Jimmy G. is all potential - and at a mere $27.5M per season. I love it when other FO's take inadvisable risks. |

Sorry but I don't think the guy is worth that, in fact I THINK THE NINERS will regret this deal |
Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 1.0
That's a lot of money but JG is still pretty young, he won all his starts. I can't name any of his WR's. He showed them enough obviously.

Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 1.0
49ers are fucking idiots. In no way did Jimmy G have any leverage to be paid the highest of anybody in the NFL. You don't pay a guy with a handful of games 27mil/yr. Sure he might become a hall of famer, but that is besides the point. His ceiling is higher than Kirk's is, but Kirk is much more proven. Expect Kirk to hit the 28-30mil/yr if Jimmy G is worth 27.
|
Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 1.0
Kirk says you like that? Hold my beer

They drank the Kool Aid, Lynch is a rookie GM, he will pay for this one.. I'm sure SFREDSKINS will be here soon to say SF is going to the SB now |
Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 1.0
Did the 49ers really have a choice? They weren’t going down the road the Skins just went down by playing the tag game. They had to pony up, this is how it works.

Actually yeah. They could have extended that contract prior to the trade. You have a choice in whether to make a bad contract or not. See Houston with Brock. See Seattle with Matt Flynn. See Baltimore with Joe Flacco. You do have an option to overpay for talent or lack there of. Jimmy is such an unknown, so it's even more foolish. |

It would be different if the team was a QB away from knowing they can win a SB, that team is ass and needs a shit ton of talent, now it will be like the colts roster or ravens roster, QB and avg players all around him. |
Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 1.0
This move makes BA look smarter IMO, he didn't cave to overpaying a Good not Great QB, and he goes out and gets a proven guy that has won playoff games, something KC and JG have not done yet, hell maybe never will. He also paid him less than those guys so that the team can go out and sign a few FA's that can come in and help now...
Remember SF also gave PG A fat contract of 50M last yr, and yes we missed him but he ain't worth that kind of money. Bruce has done better than most think honestly. |

I agree, there is no way a QB with 7 starts deserves to be the highest paid player in the NFL.....2017 stats 7 TDs - 5 Int. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/G/GaroJi00.htm |
Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 1.0
They beat a good jAGS team and a missed FG by Tenn other than that they beat bad teams and a rams team with no starters... Not impressed

Maybe they tried? Maybe he wasn’t open to a deal prior to the trade? |

It's how it works, yeah. Doesn't mean it's wise, though because the teams that make or win the SB are more often those with a "bargain" at QB. Eagles - $15M combined on Wentz and Foles. Wentz gets them there as a high draft pick. Patriots - Brady is paid under market value. Seahawks - Russell Wilson was on his rookie deal when they won. Ravens - Flacco was on his rookie deal at the time. What you never see is middle of the road QBs paid top dollar taking their teams to the SB. |

This is where I disagree. Lynch is a borderline HOF player and Kyle is as good as anyone in the NFL running an offense. They saw enough both in the games he started for them, but also in practice and picking up the system, leadership and so on. On top of all that he did have a couple games w/ NE. It's a lot of money but if you like the QB that's in your building then why mess around? The system isn't perfect, SF may have overpaid a bit but they got their guy locked up. |
Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 1.0
Eli salary for 2018 $10,500,000
Bonus pro rated at another 6.500,000 |

He had to give up valuable compensation for an already average to below average team for a QB that may not be as good. Plus he was too stupid to give Cousins 19 million a year after his 15 season. Lynch was thinking ahead and the 27 million that was paid to JG will be surpassed in a couple years. Lynch knows what he's doing, Bruce has no clue. |
Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 1.0
On SF, the also have, before the deal, more than enough(113M) to pay that contract without being in cap hell.

Time will tell, I'm not a SF hater at all I'm js Lynch was a great player that doesn't mean he'll be a great GM. Elway looked great until Manning left |

Yes, 100% agree. Kirk will get 30 million a year easy, maybe 31..... |

Yup that is the number they were throwing out there with 100 million guaranteed. They wouldn't even mention Drew Brees or Arron Rodgers which they said could make it go "significantly higher". |

That's irrelevant. What it does is set the market rate sky high for mediocre QBs or ones that haven't proven themselves. |
That's irrelevant. It does screw with the market I agree, but my point was that SF didnt hurt their team by signing him to that deal. In fact they probably made AZ and Seattle's life a little more miserable, AZs if they want to battle for Cousins and Seattle because Russell Wilson's next contact will be Yuuge.

Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 1.0
Makes the Alex Smith trade look even better.
If I pick a QB in the 1st round, in year 3 of that deal I'm picking another QB. If I pick a QB in rounds 2-7, in year 2 of that deal I'm picking another QB. Keep on refreshing them while keeping the rest of the roster stacked. How many QBs have won more than 1 Super Bowl? 12, and most of these QBs aren't anywhere near recent. You can win SB with a solid starter and good roster. See playoff run of 2017/2018 playoff Eagles. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_quarterbacks_with_multiple_Super_Bowl_starts |

Kirk Cousins is not an elite level QB and that is why we let him go, why pay him Jimmy $ and fuck your team over as CT said in his interview... Alex Smith is just as good as Kirk IMO and he is making 6-7M less a yr. |
