Around the NFL Off season thread 2.0

Bell needs to stick with this option , RB's just don't last as long so I don't see why any team would pay him 20M A year.. |

News on the salary cap for the upcoming season:

Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 2.0
QB is really high up there for the NFL in the salary cap as always!

Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 2.0
The Dolphins seem to be pretty much done with Landry, I doubt we can make a push for him but it sure would be nice, IMO he can be a number 1 WR for us

I wanted Landry, but I don't want the Skins to have to give up draft picks for him, so I have accepted that he isn't coming here... |

Both Allen Robinson and Sammy Watkins are going to be free agents:

Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 2.0
I just listened to an interview with Jordan Matthews on Sirius XM NFL radio. He said his wife was a pro soccer player in DC she was lobbying for them to be in that area. He got cut from Buffalo because of injuries and just had two surgeries this off-season on his knee and ankle but I’ll be interested to see with our need at wide receiver if the Redskins pursue him as a free agent.

Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 2.0
From rotoworld.com:
"ESPN's John Keim believes the Redskins are interested in free agent WR Paul Richardson. Certain to add to their receiving corps this offseason, Washington has already been linked with Allen Robinson and now Richardson. A second-round pick by the Seahawks in 2014, Richardson broke out with 703 yards and six touchdowns last season. He is reportedly looking for $7 million per year on his next deal." If we can sign Brown to 8M and Bree to 12M (which might be too low, in both cases...), that's still 7M available (based on 34M). Not enough to sign Poe. But enough to sign some of our other guys like Long, Murphy, Quick. (Galette? Niles Paul?). |
Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 2.0
Free agency needs to start asap. I want to get excited about some new guys that will actually be on the team and chose to be here.

We need to sign guys like Zach Brown and Breshaud Breeland. I still think we have a good one in Doctson - he's just going to need another year to truly show us why we drafted him. |

Part of me truly believes that something was wrong with the whole receiving group (coaching, atmosphere, whatever) and that these players really are better than what they showed last season. I'd have liked a change at WR coach, but maybe Smith's arrival can spark something and they, including Doctson, step it up. |

he's a headcase, Seattle is letting him go for nothing basically. That should tell u something

On top of losing 5th round pick... "With three years left on his deal, Bennett's departure will save Seattle roughly $5.2 million in 2018. The*Eagles, however, are roughly $10 million over the cap, meaning a handful of last year's*Super Bowl*winners will be forced off the roster. Vinny Curry*and*Torrey Smith*could be goners, while veteran tight end*Brent Celek*looms as another potential non-returnee for the*Eagles." |
Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 2.0
So, the Eagles now don't have a 3rd, 4th, and 5th round pick. If they don't deal Foles, then they'll lose him for nothing next season, and they will be in cap hell. Keep it up Iggles!

I like this , ................the fourth round compensatory pick and a sixth plus they get the rams seventh next year. .....I might be wrong but I think the Giants now have two of the picks the Skins gave the Rams in the RGIII trade. |

Ogletree can play! Thanks for bringing up the RGIII trade. I had almost forgotten about it. |

The NFL Salary Cap the way it is currently set up is ruining the game. There are not as many top teams as there used to be. The NFL Salary cap is a dynasty team killer. It prevents teams from building a dynasty team and being able to keep it together. The solution is easy: There should be an exemption for resigning your own players. I get not being able to go over the cap to sign Free Agents. I am fine with that and I get it. But you should be allowed to exceed the cap IF you are signing your own players. If a team has exceeded the Cap to sign their own veterans, they should be prohibited from signing high priced Free Agents. I am tired of the NFL protecting cheap owners or so called "small market teams". Before Salary cap we had multiple dynasty type team that coexisted all at the same time. 1) Steelers 2) Redskins 2) 49ers 3) Cowboys 4) Giants 5) Bears When those dynasty teams played against each other it was amazing to see. We have a ton of shitty teams. |

A rookie pool, A "keep our own" pool, and a FA cap? Or something like a transition tag where a team can match any offer, but then only have a certain amount count against the overall cap? I doubt the players would go along with either of those concepts because they would claim that the league is prohibiting freedom of movement. Just curious how you would see it worked out |
Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 2.0
without a cap the NFL would be baseball, and it would get nuts. At least now a days every team has equal playing fields.
