Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Team needed a Safety for sure , def overpaid Collins IMO but it's bound to happen in today's league.

Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Expensive. Dan and Bruce are ready to spend some money to inject some passion back into the fan base. Nothing says #HTTR like a compromised salary cap.
But I do love the player. Will be fun rooting for some serious hitting again. |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Source says the the 3y/$45m number that @RapSheet reported isn't fully guaranteed.
Still working on all the details, but this deal is going to be a lot more practical than the eye-popping 6y/$84m that first crossed all our twitter feeds. |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Landon Collins' 149 defensive stops are 13 more than the next closest safety since 2015.
|
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Some additional details:
Craig Hoffman @CraigHoffman Source says the the 3y/$45m number that @RapSheet reported isn't fully guaranteed. Still working on all the details, but this deal is going to be a lot more practical than the eye-popping 6y/$84m that first crossed all our twitter feeds. As Andrew Brandt says, agents are going to push for outlets to report the flashy total contract money, which means nothing. |

Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Draft Deionte Thompson. Bama walls up front and in the back.

Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Scared money don't make no money.
We need a bonafide starter at safety. He is one. Sometimes you gotta pony up. And he is another legitimate leader in the locker room. |

I'm fine with this signing. Since people don't remember the Vinny years, under him we would have paid Earl Thomas $85 mil guaranteed. |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Maybe would've preferred Mathieu but this was definitely the position I wanted a splashy signing.
Don't see where we're going to use the cap we're going to create (ZB, VD, MF, McGee, Scherff) better than here. Envoyé de mon SM-J320FN en utilisant Tapatalk |

I'll hold off on judging the money until all the details are known.

What's the statute of limitations on that? Can't avoid spending big money every year for all eternity on FAs. Plus we can cut and replace quite a few spots on this roster to recoup lots of this space. Next step, lockup Scherff. Then supplement on the back end of FA. |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Also, if we didn't sign a safety, we were going to need to draft 2. Free's up a pick for another position.
|
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Gotta love Keim:
John Keim @john_keim Cool thing is, if you sign 8 alabama players you get the 9th for free. |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
I just don't believe in signing a in the box type of safety that kind of money. They overpaid for a need and a player that really isn't much better than the one they cut.
|
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Not a big fan. Too much money for an in-the-box safety. We're already in a tough cap space. Hope I'm wrong and he's a stud here... but a bit concerned.

Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
From Will Blackmon:
Will Blackmon @WillBlackmon Can y’all stop calling @TheHumble_21 a “Box Safety”? He is a complete saftey. He is a leader, he’s smart, He can cover man or zone, he has great ball skills, he has really good instincts and most importantly he can tackle extremely well. #HTTR 💰 💴 https://twitter.com/WillBlackmon/status/1105202500351582208 |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
So ,will he be allowed to wear #21 ?
|
So ,will he be allowed to wear #21 ?
Considering he's a great player, plays the same position, already wears 21, and has publicly and repeatedly told reporters for years that he idolizes Sean Taylor, i think it would be very fitting to allow him to continue wearing the number to honor Sean. |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Unpopular opinion here, but hell no I don't want to see him wearing ST's number. He's not a ballhawking free safety like ST was, and I doubt he'd disagree.
I also disagree that we will get value back proportionate to the money paid out (and I say that hearing the rumors there is an easy out after 3 years that doesn't involve this contract remaining on the books for a large amount). I like the player, just disagree that he is worth that much money, and I also disagree that he is the free-range player that ST was. We committed 45 mil to a safety who didn't have a pick last year. That's Ed Reed/Polamalu money. I'd rather pay that money to a free-range, ballhawking free safety who causes a lot of turnovers. Like Earl Thomas (not 2019 older Earl Thomas though, LOB Earl Thomas). Just my opinion anyways. And to everybody who said they had to make a splash signing, I totally agree. Desperation is a stinky cologne though. |

They got wrong though..most of the better safety in this draft are better suited to play SS not FS. This draft does not have a high end ball hawk FS like last year. We would have been better off signing a FS in free Agency and drafting a SS. |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
It was suggested Collins could wear 36 to honor Taylor. We will see.

Wow! We spent 84 million for a guy who can't cover!

Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
If you think this signing is good, then you are just as fucking bad as our shitty ass GM. This team doesn't need a 14mil/yr safety who's not going to do much for our team. He's not going to help with pass coverage because he's a in the box type safety. He's not going to help with our LBs not being able to cover/tackle. He's not going to help with our shitty QB play. He's not going to help with our in-consistent blocking.
Just a overall dumbass move. We need to call this season what it is. A lame duck season for Gruden and Bruce Allen. Allen sure knows how to sucker you guys. Just sign the hottest guy and BLAM, you're right back into the kool-aid. Mark my words. This team will be no better than 7-9 next year, and we're fucking our salary cap in doing so. It's better to build a team from bottom up conserving that cap until we need to spend it. Sure there is a cap floor, but that doesn't mean you need to spend it all. You can roll over unused cap. Good teams do this. Bad teams like ours waste it and max it out on average players. |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
If that means HaHa is gone, then it's a win!

Often the scheme was good and players whiffed. Collins won't whiff. We have competent CBs our issue was often middle of the field, like TEs. Again LC will help. Our D had shining moments, especially the front line so a strong mid field presence was crucial. Whether the price was worth it is a separate question and for now I think we have to wait on answering it. |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Somewhere Bruce Allen is sitting back sipping on crown royal with lil Danny thinking........"suckers" .........as he watches all the Redskins fan direct their attention to the shiny new toy.

Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Lotsa Bama dudes on this D. And potentially CJ Mosley too?
Hail Tide. Or Roll to the Redskins. I guess if you're gonna go after one school's talent, Bama's a good one to focus on. |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
I can agree we overpaid. But we also filled a need with a young elite player.
If all the right moves are made (ZB, MF, VD, Scherff) we'd be looking at nearly 30M of available cap space, where would that cap be better spent ? Envoyé de mon SM-J320FN en utilisant Tapatalk |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
I assume Smith comes off the books next year. As well as Norman? Maybe they felt that whomever is playing QB for this team won't be making 2nd contract money, so they felt they could over spend on a player or two. That is the only reason I can see them doing this signing. . Otherwise I just don't get it at all.
|
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
I liked Landon definitely a plus in the locker room and he is a great tackler . I thought the Giants should have moved him up to a LBer but that was me. He can not cover a cold and has been hurt the last two seasons ,he will be missed but I think the Skins way ,way over paid for him.

If Collins cap number is less than $10 million in 2019 and they intend to sign their draft choices.... then they are out of money.
Time to make cuts |
