Top Stories Going Into Camp
What are you looking forward too, the big stories, who you watching, what camp battles, etc.
1. Keenum Vs Haskins - Its all about the QB...should be intense. I hope folks are right when they say once we see preseason games it Haskins will shine over Keenum. Will be the classic experience vs raw talent battle. 2. Oline instability - Whats new right? Silverback issues, no extension for Schreff, LG starter? and Ereck "the trainwreck" Flowers. Im hoping we at least get the Schreff extension done soon. 3. Im for sitting our Often Injured players - Jordan Reed, Chris Thompson, Morgan Moses, Quinton Dunbar, and Paul Richardson. At least dial down the playtime...P Rich probably needs to develop a rapport with the QB... 4. Who emerges at WR from our young talent? We have a ton of rookies, 2 year guys, etc coming back...who can emerge as legit ballers. 5. Defense....dude, there is simply no excuses for the coaching staff. We have legitimate talent at every unit on the defense. I don't think we are a top 5, but I do think we could be 5-10 best in league. What you got???? Im ready to get this season going... |

Or of course if Haskins shows he just isn't ready yet. WR is still the biggest weakness on paper right now. Trey Quinn could really be WR1. |
Re: Top Stories Going Into Camp
I'm honestly looking at it like Colt vs Keenum, and advantage Colt. Haskins will end up needing time.
Jay put his dick on the table with Cousins over RGIII. "It's Kirk's team." I think going into this make or break year he'll recognize he needs to do what he believes gives him the best chance in 2019 to win enough games to save his job. I think Colt shows out in camp and puts Jay in position where he has no choice but to go with him. I'm looking forward to it, I find myself rooting for Colt. |

Of course this could all be a moot point if Dan puts his thumb on Jay and makes him start Haskins out the gate. |

Re: Top Stories Going Into Camp
This may be an unpopular opinion but it's mine. For me it comes down to knowing where you're at as an organization. These camp battles should be about getting as many young guys on the field as possible. That means so long AP. Guice is my starter, Perine, CT and #34 can back him up. Good bye Josh Norman, you're gone anyway next year so might as well try and get a draft pick for ya. I want to see more of the kid from JMU. Keenum and Colt can split the 2nd team reps. #7 gets all the 1st team reps so he can make improvement so he can get ready for week one. Mason Foster thanks for the below average memories but Dion Hamilton, Harvey Clemons and Holcolmn are getting as many reps as possible. Doc we already know what you are. Insert the rookies, 2nd year Sims w/ Gruden's new pet in the slot.
I'm tired of having a team that has a max of 9 wins. What's the point? Bruce says we're close. To what? A Wild Card and go home? I'd rather get these young guys out there and win 4 or 5 game and have draft pick capital for next year. Why keep trying to win 8 or 9 games every year? We're a tread water type of organization. Keep your head above water, just do enough to keep your jobs. |

Not skins related but:
Bengals announced that rookie OT Jonah Williams had left shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum. Williams likely will miss the 2019 season, but is expected to make a full recovery. That blows. Bengals could be really bad |

WR - I'm really curious to see how this works out. It will be disaster season for Redskins and #1 QB if Quinn is only reliable receiver this season. Defense - I have high hopes for this unit although the fact that Manusky is defense coordinator keep my hopes down to normal level. I have to give Manusky some credits for good defense in first half of season last year but everything fell apart by second half of the season. Manusky have no excuses this time (unless majority of defense starters are injured). |

I personally am a fan of Norman, I think both his toughness and smartness are underrated. Stroman showed some nice flashes last year. If Moreau feels like having a break out year, now is the time. Everybody seems to love what they're seeing from Jimmy Moreland so far, and Quinton Dunbar will always have a special place in my Skins fan's heart. So this is looking like a nice young group with a solid veteran, I like it. And GOOOD do I want to see Wes Martin win that effin LG starting job !!!! |

I mean these guys are not doing politics, they're going onto the field, putting their bodies on the line, to win. Plus a football season is a long period of time to go through, with the media pressure surrounding you and all... I just don't see a winning culture growing thanks to a losing season supposingly being better for the long term future |

The Browns have been blowing things up every year, and that hasn't worked for them. Like it or not, the Redskins have done a lot of things to try to build their roster, infuse young players, and try to minimize crazy contracts. One of their main problems has been getting blown up like crazy with injuries for two seasons in a row. If the team went 3-13 for two straight years, I would say blow things up, but that hasn't happened. Honestly, I feel that if we catch a f*cking break with injuries, there is a something that this team could do to build on and get some wins, perhaps even a playoff appearance or two. |

He's already been on 20 teams and none of them wanted him. Like Colt, great back up and that should be his role. This is why Haskins should get 100% of the first team reps in camp. How did protecting the ball work against teams like the Saints, Falcons and Colts? Smith was playing his worst game against the Texans before he got hurt. So by my count that'd be 6-4 and going the wrong way. You gotta have a QB that can take you all the way. |
Doug Williams: Decision to start Dwayne Haskins will be made by "Jay (Gruden), myself, probably Bruce (Allen) and the owner"
So.. Haskins is starting
Yeah I heard Doug. Really it should be up the head coach. Bruce will agree with whatever Dan wants cause he's a rat bitch and will do whatever he needs to do to stay employed. Problem is Jay will most likely opt to stick with Colt or Case in order to stay average. The hell with that. I'd rather win 4 or 5 games with Haskins playing over winning 7 or 8 games with the other guys. The thing with Haskins is he was playing his best at the end of Ohio State's season. He was getting better as the season wore on. |
Re: Top Stories Going Into Camp
Owner shouldn't have a say, Jay's earned the call.
My personal feeling is if the Oline is intact and Haskins has played well in preseason...then start him. If Haskins been shaky, then start Keenum/Colt the first 5 and give Haskins the opportunity to watch and then step in mid season |

Here's a crazy thought, let the competition play out in camp and play the best one.

Agree and that works great in HS and College but money talks and fans won't come to games with Colt Mccoy as the starter, probably not even Case. Haskins will put people in the stands and that is what the NFL / Owners want. |

After he left the Skins, Mike Shanahan revealed that Dan Snyder has no interest in any position other than QB, over which Snyder somehow thinks he is qualified to have the final say. My point being that Snyder probably won't be involved in decisions about other positions. |
Re: Top Stories Going Into Camp
I think everyone needs to take Doug's comments with a grain of salt. I don't think he meant that he and Dan and Bruce are going to tell Jay to start Haskins if Haskins demonstrates he's not ready yet.
If the competition is close in camp then I could see them swaying with a deciding vote. But if Keenum or Colt legit win the QB race in camp, then Jay will definitely go with them, especially because the schedule is rough. The front office will not tell Jay to make a move to Haskins in such a circumstance. |

I realize this is one of the primary aspects of his job description, but he always ends up saying things that are misleading or simply dumb. They really should demote him to a position that is exclusively scouting/personel and promote/hire someone into a GM role who can do a better job at dealing with the public. |
Re: Top Stories Going Into Camp
If anyone doesn't think Snyder will have a say about QB you haven't been paying attention the last 20 years. Will he override the consensus? No, but he will have input.

Re: Top Stories Going Into Camp
One person should decide who plays. The head coach. That language would hopefully be in his contract.

What are the going to do at LT?
-If Trent doesn't return I think they should move someone over...I would try Scherff or Morgan Moses then shuffle the OL deck at the other postion -Watching the young WRs I think Kelvin Harmon is a much better WR then his UDFA selection suggests, good route runner, good hands not the fastest WR out there but that shouldn't be his role. I LOVE McLaurin I thought he was one of the top WRs in the draft....I consider him to a feature caliber WR potential QB if Haskins is ready it should be him if not then go with Keenum but work Haskins into the game and get him some reps maybe a series here or there every game. The focus should be on getting Haskins ready I am going to enjoy watching the front 7 dominant games |
Re: Top Stories Going Into Camp
Dunbar's health is the biggest under the radar story to me. Him starting game 1 changes my thoughts on our defensive performance for this year. With him, I think we could have strong secondary. Without him, people get moved around, and my confidence wanes quite a bit.

This is a good post and it’s something not talked enough about. He was breaking the fuck out last year and was extremely pivotal to our first half run. I’m hoping this nerve thing is behind him...bright side, our depth at CB is as deep as the dline. |

NFL Supplemental Draft is July 10:
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/06/29/report-washington-states-jalen-thompson-enters-supplemental-draft/ Here are whose in so far with good quick synopsis on each: https://www.nj.com/eagles/2019/06/nfl-supplemental-draft-2019-heres-what-we-know-so-far-2-players-enter-selection-process.html Count me in for grabbing talent at a discount rate and what do you know? An outstanding Safety prospect is available and we mos def wanted to add a young Safety last draft, but the board never lined up for us. Also a monster size TE and WR prospect who has special teams value. Early early takeaway is the safety maybe the only one who will be drafted in the supplemental. This Jalen Thompson kid has the accolades as multiple all conference awards and is a 3 year starter. I’ve read he would slot as a solid second day draft prospect...his work out is this coming week. I’m all for adding talent to our safety group...if we can get this guy at a discount...fuck yeah, why not. |
