The Redskins have informed ILB Mason Foster he will be released, according to a source.

Whoa....why now?
|
Re: So long Mason Foster
I am not assuming here but maybe it has to do with freeing up cap space for our 2 lineman
|
Re: So long Mason Foster
While I'm not disappointed with this move, this is a surprising move given the fact we only have Harvey-Clemons and Holcomb behind Foster and Dion-Hamilton? I assume there is a chance we will resign Foster at lower cost or sign someone who has been released by a team recently.

Re: So long Mason Foster
Solid tackler but lacks speed and is horrible in coverage.. It's not a huge loss IMO.
Career grade of 59.8. Meh |
Re: So long Mason Foster
I'm hoping this means H-C or another young guy is showing a lot of promise.
Foster can't run with the backs in the NFC East and he is constantly bitching about something. It's time to go. |
Re: So long Mason Foster
Jon Bostic is the guy IMO

Also wouldn't surprise me to see Ryan Anderson moved inside as well |

Lets not forget the rookie Holcomb who had 100 tackles last yr in college |

I totally forgot we signed Bostic, this move makes completely sense now. |

Haven't forgotten about him, I'd love to see them two as a nice combo |

Also, the Redskins could use the cap savings to possibly re-do tackle Trent Williams' contract. After releasing Foster, they'll have approximately $12 million cap space. Williams will likely miss the start of training camp as he remains upset over some of his medical care. It's uncertain if a new deal would appease him, however. He has two years remaining on his current contract. The Redskins also want to extend guard Brandon Scherff, who is entering the final year of his contract. The sides started talking in January. The moves saves 4 million? Pretty good...I’m betting this is more about what Keim says about our Oline |
Also wouldn't surprise me to see Ryan Anderson moved inside as well
No chance.
Only way he plays inside is at strong side LB in a 4-3. He lacks the speed and skill set to play ILB in a 3-4. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk |

Career grade of 59.8. Meh
We disagree on that. I think he has highly underrated coverage abilities. He's a smart player who made some nice plays in zone coverage. He had some bad games and is not athletic, but on many games his smartness and toughness made up for it IMO. Now, maybe last year's instagram turmoil wasn't 100% cleared up, and if the move ends up helping solving the TW and/or the BS situation, I'm fine with it. |
Re: So long Mason Foster
Good! He was a bum anyway.

PFT doesn't like this organisation, but I truly am curious as to what precisely led to his releasing happening now. If it was something they saw during OTAs (ie SDH showing improvement, Bostic and Holcomb looking great), it could've been done several weeks ago... IMO it's either internal tensions, or a legit cap saving move to solve the TW/BS situations. |

Re: So long Mason Foster
Thank god they moved on from him. He was cut by Tampa years ago. When was the last time Tampa fielded a good defense? Yet he was on this roster for years which tells you something about the Redskins. Foster is slow, un athletic and can't run with any NFL TE or RB. All he really could do was call the defenses.

Re: So long Mason Foster
The timing of the release was a fuck you move by the team for last years tweets, that’s my guess.
|
Re: So long Mason Foster
I like what this says about the ILB crop we have and the general FO approach. More youth, more speed, fewer knuckleheads. The Haskins era is underway.

I do think this is part of the truth, if the rest of it is:
I like what this says about the ILB crop we have and the general FO approach. More youth, more speed, fewer knuckleheads. The Haskins era is underway.
+ the FO is making a legit push to get TW back in camp, then it's a solid move. |
Re: So long Mason Foster
Now we just need a real defensive coordinator

The timing was this simply about this, they didn't make a move until they had to. |
Re: So long Mason Foster
Jon Bostic is the guy IMO
Why is he on his 6th team and he is 28? Also reading up on him he was behind Mason Foster on the depth chart when with the Bears in 2015. On the Fan 106.7 yesterday they were saying Foster was cut because of Bostic. |

Sheehan actually took this point even further the other day saying they could've/should've waited even longer, until they were 100% sure with what they had at ILB without him. This makes me think even more that this was a cap move in order to deal with the LT situation (sign Penn and/or find a common ground with TW). |

Literally, everybody who covers the team has said those tweets were out of character for Foster. He was universally recognized as a good team mate and good locker room guy. His game was severely lacking and he should have never been a week 1 starter, but that was the FO's fault more than his. I really hate he will be remember by most fans for those stupid tweets. I've listened to tons of great, selfless interviews he gave, but his worst moment as a Redskin will be what stands out. |
Re: So long Mason Foster
maybe they needed the money to spend on a tackle ;)
|
Re: So long Mason Foster
Bostic is a journeyman, he's a slight upgrade from MF. Watch the rookie from NC. He may earn the job and that would give us some serious speed at ILB.
|
Re: So long Mason Foster
Foster was in over his head. We needed to upgrade. He still has plenty of time to get on with another team. His cap money will help fix Trent Williams money issues.
|
Re: So long Mason Foster
You have to remember when R. Fosters injury happened, they were probably considering it then after seeing Hamilton and Holcomb in OTAs, but after R.Fosters injury had to wait until a viable alternative was on the roster
|
Re: So long Mason Foster
I think this means J. Allen will be the defensive team captain.
|
Re: So long Mason Foster
Foster still hasn't been picked up. Imagine he will soon however especially when the need arises for a team.
