Chase young discussion
Chase Young officially declared he’ll be participating in the 2020 NFL draft where the Redskins have a rare and valuable #2 draft pick in the first round. Cincinnati is widely expected to choose Burrows -who has an unbelievable TD to INT ratio.
Last night I searched every single mock draft for 2020 that I could find. EVERY mock draft I saw had the Redskins taking Chase Young, who is widely considered the BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE (BPA) and also the best defensive player available in the draft. Mock drafts mean absolutely NOTHING, but they’ve fun to read. This season Chase had 16.5 sacks for Ohio State, while missing two whole games in the season. It is said that in some plays he drew a TRIPLE blocking -three OL to try to contain him. Before we get all mushy and gooie about Chase there are some bridges that have to be crossed first. We have already seen that RR is extremely thorough in his evaluation of players and coaches. It appears that Kevin O’Connell has now had several interviews, with coaches from other teams, such as Sean Turner (Norv Turners son) now being brought in from Carolina. It is not a sure thing that O’Connell will be the OC here, as was thought two days ago. A big hurtle is the COMBINE, another is the Senior Bowl. At the Combine players are tested and scrutinized for speed, strength, agility, intelligence, as well as the important game team interviews. Is Chase a freak of nature? Is he intelligent? Will he interview well, and show the proper enthusiasm for the Redskins? I believe he will be very excited to come to the Redskins because two classmates of his are eagerly waiting for him - Haskins and McLaurin. Haskins already made a nice plug for Chase last Monday at Asburn. Unless the Combine finds some major, unknown flaw, I envision Chase to exhibit the speed and agility and strength of an ELITE athlete. Anything less and it might be better for the Redskins to trade down and hope they can still get Andrew Thomas, the best OT in the draft. This is a very rare opportunity to draft a highly elite player who will play great football for the Redskins for 10 years or longer. He’s appears amazing and it’s a critical position on the defense. Barring injuries, could the Young-Sweat pass rush combo possibly rival the great Manley-Mann teamwork of the best Redskin’s team in history (1980’s)? Before we dream too big, let’s make sure he’s everything that the pundits claim he is at the Combine and Senior Bowl (if he plays). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Chase young discussion
Get him!! He’s the equivalent of Quenton Nelson a few years ago, a dominating player.

Re: Chase young discussion
Question is, do we take Burrows IF the Bengals take Young, or another team trades into the Bengals spot to take Young
|
Re: Chase young discussion
Or, do we trade back if a team offers a RG3 like ransom?

Re: Chase young discussion
No way u pass him up barring an Injury

Re: Chase young discussion
Is he really THAT good? Are chances high teams will offer Washington a lot to trade into #2?

I linked the video and time code in the BPA thread. What makes you sure he won't pull a Haynesworth once he gets paid?

Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
Albert was a fat fuck. Lol. in that clip where he causes the fumble it is 31-7 osu and he has to be exhausted in the fourth quarter. So your gripe is that he doesn’t block on his own sack force fumble? I bet if that was a fumble return for the win he would have. But it wasn’t it was game over. Also if you watch the guy had his back turned to Chase when he stepped aside as to not block in the back - and he was trying to get out of the way of the returner. |

Chase is a local kid I think. He definitely hates the Cowboys - check out his twitter feed. Love that.

Re: Chase young discussion
I realize that the Bengals will take a QB but can they be enticed to give up their #1 for a bunch of picks and a QB later on in a draft filled with excellent QB's?.
If Chase Young is not there do the Skins take a QB ? Detroit won't, ..........what would it take for the Giants to trade with the Bengals? |

Re: Chase young discussion
I’d hate to squash the spirit of discussion in this thread, but this is not a complicated decision, and we shouldn’t try to make it one.
Chase is the highest graded college pass rusher PFF has ever graded. Better than Von Miller and Myles Garrett. And Joe Burrow is the highest graded college QB they’ve graded. If the Bengals take Burrow, then we take Chase and it’s not even a thought. Who cares about his measurables at the combine, just watch the tape. And in the extremely remote chance that somebody trades up to #1 and takes Chase, then we take Joe Burrow or take the trade down if offered. His grades crush those of Haskins, I’d personally take the upgrade at the most important position. There aren’t a lot of crazy scenarios to think through here. This is a draft where the top two players are heads and shoulders above the others, and we have the second pick. Don’t overthink it and just take the one that’s there, and watch them transform your franchise accordingly. |
Re: Chase young discussion
If the Bengals don't take Burrow, they might as well pack up their franchise and move it to Saskatchewan or someplace like it. That's how much they need him. But I doubt that even the Bengals can screw up this #1 pick. For them, it must be Burrow.

Re: Chase young discussion
I would listen to offers about trading down. As great a player as Young is, I personally think the kid from Iowa is almost as good. He is a powerful ass wrecking ball but doesn't get the hype cause he plays for Iowa. If someone offers the ranch and I could get Epenesa and lets say another 1st rounder where I could get a o-linemen I'm listening.

Re: Chase young discussion
Chase young if he is there...if Cincy would take him I’d hold that pick for ransom for burrow. You could get an rg3 type deal for burrow.

Re: Chase young discussion
I am just smiling thinking about Sweat and Young aka Alien and Predator.

Re: Chase young discussion
I gotta say, I feel the pressure of having the #2 pick here. Because as dominant as Chase Young is, as legit of a player as he looks, in the 2-5% chance he's not and we whiff on this pick it will be embarrassing.

Yeah but I think it’s one of those things where everybody else in the NFL would be shocked if he busted. There wouldn’t be so much embarrassment as there would be sympathy. It’d be like man that sucks guys, we would have done the same thing. But I feel you - if you have the 2nd pick it needs to be an impact player or you’re set back. Nobody knows that better than the 2012 Redskins. |

I know we should and hopefully will take Chase Young, but at that point our front 7 will include 4 first round "can't miss" players. And our strongest lineman right now is a 5th round guy in Ionnaidis. That's a LOT of draft capital in one part of the team. Meanwhile our TE and Oline spots are if not in shambles, shaky at best, our WRs hopefully ok but if so we got lucky, and our corners are also questionable. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |

Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
This is my thought exactly....... if we assume Ionnadis and Payne are our best DTs and we are going to pick Chase Young, then is it crazy to believe that it would be best to flip one of the other three for picks? Kerrigan is older but has been a warrior for he team and will provide limited return, Sweat would make a good bookend for Young and is on cheap rookie contract, Johnathan Allen is a leader so difficult to imagine him being traded....... having the best defence is not going to generate points, though of course it will limit the number of points we have to score...... I am firmly on the fence with this which is why I will trust RR and co to make the right decision for the team |

This is a year when we should expect the team to be aggressive in plugging holes. San Fran is the model. They spent a lot of 1st rounders along the line. They capped it off with Bosa at #2 overall. Meanwhile Lynch got aggressive in free agency and kept drafting well. Bad, bad, boom 13-3. |

Drafting Young at number two would not be embarrassing if he is a bust. It would suck, but nobody would ever second guess the decision. |

We won't know how it turns out until 3-5 years down the road, and I am positive anybody else who had the #2 pick would take Chase Young too, but this is a real make-or-break deal for the Redskins. If you have the #2 pick, you have to get an elite, game-breaking playmaker at that spot. There is no excuse to mess it up, because you can pick anyone not named Joe Burrow. The teams that mess up opportunities to pick a game-changer are usually the ones that repeat the opportunity to pick up game-changers in the draft. |

Just think only 4 months of this second guessing to go

Pretty much this. It’s like when Jamf drafted Saquon at no 1 in fantasy football this year...you can’t argue it. |
