Xfl
Anyone going to watch?
Thoughts on the longevity? I say 2 years max lol |
Re: Xfl
I'm definitely going to watch.
Given the financial model of the league (one guy, who has lots of money and lots of stake in it, funding it), I think it will last. I also think Oliver Luck will do a good job running the league. |
Re: Xfl
I might give it a look to know how it's like, but I'll admit I'm a 100% or 0% guy, and I don't see myself investing too much time into second rank football.
Plus some of the "arcade" rules really make no sense to me... Reading them again my initial thought is I flat out hate it : the punt ones are absurd and take away one strategic aspect of the game, the kick off ones make little sense and the extra point ones belong on a smartphone game, not a football field ... oh and I just re-read the overtime ones, basically if the defense makes 2 consecutive penalties the offense automatically scores, how effin dumb is that ? When I began writing it I didn't intend this post to be that much of a clear cut anti XFL rules rant... but then I read them again and I just can't. |
Re: Xfl
I heard on sports talk radio that we have a really good team in DC. Cordale Jones as QB and a WR from the Steelers.. Eli rogers or something like that.
Checked out the roster, Simmie Cobbs at WR. https://www.xfl.com/en-US/teams/washington-dc/dc-defenders-depth-chart |

Lol yeah ... I was like what the .. if the games had a Flint Tropics vibe to it with free corn dogs and roller skate jumps over cheerleaders .. like a party weird atmosphere .. I could get into it. |
Re: Xfl
I'm going to the DC Defenders game tomorrow. Audi Field is spectacular. I think the league will get some viewers up until a certain point. It's going to take a beating when March Madness hits, as well as The Masters.
|
Re: Xfl
It's football. Therefore my brain will have no choice but to force me to watch.
Wish SD had a team. I'd go to a game or 2. I went to one in the last league that played and folded a year ago, it was fun. |
Re: Xfl
It is football, if they broadcast Pop Warner football I would watch it. To me nothing is "second rate" as long as it is competitive.
|
Re: Xfl
This team is playing better football than any team in DC in the past 5 years.

The product on the field is actually quite competitive from what I'm seeing. I'd say better than what the AAF was. I don't see what the arcade rules bring to it though. |
Re: Xfl
I liked the game !! Problem is these leagues pop up and fold so it’s going to be really hard to develop a real fan base ... I’ll bet they had as many fans in stand as some of redskkn fans at games ..
|
Re: Xfl
I'm adopting the TB Vipers as my favorite team. They have a couple Seminoles. Gonna record the game and watch it tonight.
|
Re: Xfl
DC Defenders all the way. Ain’t gonna lie, I watched a lil and it was entertaining.
Seeing Zorn on the sideline...nice guy, but jeez he’s still incompetent. |
Re: Xfl
I was mildly interested, but didn't pay attention to what time the game was on (coworker told me it was today) so I was unpleasantly surprised to find out I missed the game yesterday. I'm gonna try to watch the week after next though.

Re: Xfl
I honestly don’t care about 2nd rate football... baseball starts soon thankfully

Re: Xfl
I like the kick off rules/formation. Seems like it’s be an interesting concept to bring to the NFL.
|
Re: Xfl
Interesting to see Kevin Gilbride and Jerry Glanville still involved in the game.

The NFL won't adopt everything but I guarantee they will definitely be drawing inspiration or even copying some of the XFL's ideas. The kickoff would be a good place to start since the NFL is going to get rid of its' current form eventually. Also crazy how many former NFL players/coaches there are in this league. I've barely even watched but it seems like every other mention is an ex-NFL player or coach. |
Re: Xfl
I had no issues with the games this weekend. It's better than preseason football.

Agree. Much better than preseason NFL and college football. The DC game was very entertaining and far from second rate football. For football fans in DC, this league presents a breath of fresh air that is sorely needed in in this town. |

Re: Xfl
The same thing that kills all these leagues is lack of star power. Who are the must see players? Until they can attract some names of interest the XFL is doomed to fail, yet again.
|
Re: Xfl
Theres only 8 teams. When I watched it on tv then heard sports radio call in on Saturday (driving around a lot) .. theres was a sense of genuine DMV sporting pride. DC is very transient. A caller said hes from Seattle and a Seahawk fan, buddy is from Texas and a Cowboy fan but they are united as DC Defender fans.
There was a good bit of positive buzz around DC .. but thats only bc we have a DC team. If we didnt, zero chance Im tuning into seattle v houston or something like that. For the DC area, it was cool. People were into it. |

It may last the season, wouldn't be shocked if it didn't tho |
Re: Xfl
Anyone else notice the games flowed better as the refs kept their flags in their pockets more often than the NFL refs did? I saw quite a few nasty hits that even if perfectly within the rules would have drawn a flag in an NFL game but did not in this past weekends XFL action.

The XFL can build its star power. Its hard to have star power after only one game. The difference between the XFL and the AAF is that the XFL has a strong financial backing which can, if nothing else, buy time for star power to develop. |

And the XFL has Fox / ESPN , the AAF only had NBC Sports networks so that also helps |
Re: Xfl
Jus cut on the game...damn shut out in the 3rd?

Vipers suck. Picked the wrong team.

#38 gets introduced to instant karma. Lol and no penalty flags. I'm kinda liking this. |
Re: Xfl
I like how they have the point spread and over under listed on the TV screen next to the score. The announcers also mention it from time to time.

Re: Xfl
Ex-Redskin TE Donald Parham having a pretty good game today, 2 TD’s. Bring him to camp.
|
Re: Xfl
I dislike New York so much I was routing against them in the XFL.
