Skins trade for Kyle Allen
Lol wtf
No word on comp... |
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
We dont have a 6th rounder, would hope it isn't as high as a 5th, hopefully a 2021 low pick
|
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
It was a 2020 5th LMAO This team fucking blows
|
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
5th rounder per Ian Rapoport
|
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
They had better have a couple of trades set up to recoup a bunch of picks or they will not be getting much in the draft this year...... Cole Holcomb in the 5th last year ....seems a bit much for a backup who probably would have been cut.
|
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
I'm not passing judgment haven't seen the BIG picture yet. I'm with RR & Smith.
|
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
I'm now going to be down if they do not trade #2 for multiple picks.. This is not an ideal way to "Rebuild" .
|
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
well ... we have our young backup. He just turned 24 a couple weeks ago.
If we took a project QB w the 5th ... we would be fine with that. |
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
Of course if he can look good in a couple of preseason/garbage time games we can probably flip him for a 3rd ;)
|
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
I'm sure they will have him video conferencing with DH breaking down the Offense.

Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
Redskins Draft Picks Updated :
1st (#2) 3rd (#66) 4th (#108) 4th (#142) 7th (#216) 7th (#229) |
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
Only has a year left on his contract
|
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
This is a smart move by the team. It gives them a solid back up, and someone who can start if sh*t goes down.

Who knows how much of a training camp they'll get for Haskins to learn this offense, so they wanted someone in the building who already knows it. I remember Carolina fans saying how much better of a passing QB this kid was compared to Newton. And yes that too, this now should mean no chance of them bringing in Cam as well. |

Makes more sense to use that 5th round pick for a kid with NFL experience, whom the staff knows, and who knows the system. Y'all need to get over the fact that the new staff is going to bring in players and coaches they are more familiar with, and who they think are the right fit. I'm more than ok with this move. |
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
It's a solid move if you believe he can compete for the job.. If you were signing just a backup that could have happened with a trade. I think Turner really liked the guy and wanted him to compete for the job.

Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
For the 2nd pick in the fifth round I would have expected another pick to come back the other way... if he sees any significant time then Haskins is injured or incapable, in which case I would rather tank for Trevor then win 3 or 4 games because of a scrappy backup, if it was for a sixth or future mid fifth then I wouldn't have a problem... but seems a lot for a guy who will only see the field if things turn to crap....... interested to know where Alex Smith stands at this point, pun not intended
|
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
Pricey...but someone Turner and Ron trust.
He's limited enough that this will clear the way for Haskins to start. Id rather have this than Cam |

Yeah, thinking about it, seems a high 5th perhaps would be too much .. a 6th we would be fine with. Should have gotten a 7th in return perhaps. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28942400/xfl-star-qb-pj-walker-sign-panthers ^^ link Car immediately signs XFL qb .. who looked good. Perhaps we could have waited for Allen to be released .... but then he probably would have signed somewhere else .. maybe. |
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
This trade is absolute dogshit. We have limited picks and he only signed a 1 year deal. I guess we're just organically changing the team name. Washington Carolinas (can't have 2 Panthers).

He's not just coming in to be the for sure backup.. I don't see why anyone would assume Haskins has the QB1 spot locked. This to me proves that not to be true. |
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
Backup QBs are taken ALL THE TIME in rounds 5-7. Nothing wrong with this...
|
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
Haskins is so much better than Allen its not even funny. Stupid fucking trade. Only way he starts is if Rivera screws Haskins worse than Gruden.
|
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
Calais Campbell was traded for a 5th

I agree. Shows we are not drafting Tua |

I don’t see this a threat unlike Cam or Jameis...those were true threats. This is the right competition and I think pushes Haskins to prepare. I don’t view Allen as a starter over Haskins potential. |

Guess we will find out. Allen played pretty well in spots last year. |

OR...they're gonna draft Tua and let him sit behind Allen next season to "get healthy" and trade Haskins? |

Don't get him all riled up for Tua!!! |
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
haha I don't even want Tua now, we need the picks. TRADE DOWN
|
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
The Panthers have 5 QBs on their roster. They likely would have cut Allen or Will Greir if we had just waited.

But the pick is too high especially considering we already don't have a 2nd. I just don't get it. We could sign a veteran FA, a bunch of UDFA guys to compete for the backup spot or use a 7th rounder. We now don't have selections in 3 rounds of the draft. Easily the worst move of the offseason. |

When you draft a backup QB in rounds 5-7, you have that player on a cheap rookie contract for 4 years. This is the last year of Allen's rookie deal. Next year he either walks or we have to pay him decent backup money. we have a had a HIGH fifth round pick - this was way too much for Allen. Should have been one of the 7ths. |

Skins are getting clowned on twitter.. "Just traded for a guy that wouldn't have beat out a XFL QB" Sad |

Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
This is why HCs can't be the general manager. Need a non biased professional GM.

Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
Remember...we could have a short camp. having someone who knows the system could provide help
|
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
Oh well, we'll see what the draft holds but this was a big surprise IMO
|
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
585k is cheaper than what we would probably have to pay if he was released and teams were able to bid on him. so we give up some draft capital but maybe save a mil or so in cap this year.
thats if we use our cap money. seems like every year we dont use all of our cap and just roll it over. which im fine with bc iot makes next year a better year for us to add pieces and be a competitive football team. 10.8 million was rolled over from last years unused cap. I get being smart, rolling over cap ... but at some point do we fully commit to going all in on winning? when do we say, this is the year we go 100% to winning? |
