Ryan Kerrigan Appreciation thread.

HUGE Milestone today for RK, he is now the franchises all time sacks leader.

Congrats to him, I've been hard on RK every yr but this is legit.

Congrats Ryan!

He is a great player and a good guy!

Ryan Kerrigan is one of my wife's favorite players and he was one my mom's favorite players when she was alive! My mother would be proud!

92 sacks, never hurt, good dude, never any off the field or on the field issues and yet I cant label him great. Am I on an island here?

Imagine what he could have done if he played his entire career for a DC who had a clue!

:D

This thread is well deserved, RK deserves more recognition. In the history of this franchise (honestly Manley would probably have the title if they started counting sacks earlier) nobody has recorded more sacks. As dependable as they come and a great mentor to the young guys on how to take care of yourself. Congrats RK.

Re: Ryan Kerrigan Appreciation thread.

Whenever I watch the movie Rudy, and see Sean Astin get in the face of the huge O-Lineman who took it easy on him one play saying "CMon man! Hit me! I'm the defensive end for Purdue!" ... I think of Ryan Kerrigan.

His years at Purdue probably prepared him for his years on the Skins ...

8 - 5 his freshmen year was the best the Boilers did.
4 - 8, 5 - 7, 4 - 8 were the subsequent records.

As a Skin ....

2011 - 5 - 11
2012 - 10 - 6
2013 - 3 - 13
2014 - 4 - 12
2015 - 9 - 7
2016 - 8 - 7 - 1
2017 - 7 - 9
2018 - 7 - 9
2019 - 3 - 13

But I never heard him complain about his teammates. And their lack of success. Always seemed to "pack his lunch pail" and just go to work.

I hope like hell, this is a season he can enjoy, and excel in. And the team can experience some success. If anyone deserves it, Ryan Kerrigan does.

Congrats Ryan Kerrigan!! Knew he would be a very special player when I first saw him at Purdue. We are very lucky to have you. Congrats again!!!!!

Re: Ryan Kerrigan Appreciation thread.

Well deserved thread (not that he's giving one single F but ^^).

I have to say, for someone who would have not been opposed to trading him (depth at the position, get value while you can) and have been, not critical, but at times saying he was playing just-good-not-elite... I have to say it's exciting to see him play that well.

Got me back to his early days in DC, happy for him, happy for this team. You can see the difference a good coaching staff makes. He's fired up and looks to be a good leader/mentor of this impressive DL squad.

Re: Ryan Kerrigan Appreciation thread.

What's been said before; what a difference a new environment makes.

I remember his first game and from the highlights it looked like the old RK again. Think RR realised what he has in a guy who bleeds B&G and kept him around for his vet smarts and leadership ability. Deserves the record and hope he keeps extending it.

Re: Ryan Kerrigan Appreciation thread.

It's hard to find players who are such consistent performers, let alone find players who are always available to play. Kerrigan does everything right. Takes care of his body, works hard, studies, stays out of trouble, plays through pain, takes steps to recover from bumps and bruises. He will not be a hall of famer, but his value is still immense, and definitely will deserve a spot in the WFT Ring of Fame when it's all said and done.

I was always on board with keeping Kerrigan. I thought in a scaled back role he could be very effective.

Re: Ryan Kerrigan Appreciation thread.

It's amazing how much you benefit from fresh legs. We were getting worked in that first quarter, the offense went three & out on that first drive and it put the defense on the field an awful lot there in the first quarter. I was concerned they'd be gassed and the floodgates would open.

The fact that you can bring a fresh Kerrigan and Ioannidis off the bench when your defense is a little gassed, it means the world. The entire line was fresh enough to pin the ears back in the 4th quarter, and it's because the depth was there to just keep rotating.

Sweat was a monster too, he made big plays! It's so refreshing to have a legit DL

Re: Ryan Kerrigan Appreciation thread.

He's been my favorite current Redskin since his first game when he scored that TD off Eli Manning.

My son is wearing his Kerrigan jersey to school today. His favorite player too.

In a part-time role with this defense, Kerrigan may be more dangerous than as a full-time starter getting double-teamed. Chase needs to be double-teamed, they can't dedicate two men on Ryan any more.

He would have had 3 sacks yesterday if he wasn't going for his famous tip the ball to himself for a pick-6 move. He was all alone in front of Wentz and jumped at least three times to try to get that play. :D

Well-deserved. Had a monster game!

Shocking it's the first time in career he's won that honor.

He's also had a ton of huge games and plays, even game-winning ones...and is our all-time sack leader. You'd think someone would have noticed before this week.

Landon Collins won the honor after the Miami win last season. Peterson also won Offensive player of the week and Sims won ST player of the week last season, and plenty of other Redskins have won those various POTW honors since Kerrigan started playing.

22 snaps ...

And he wins this award. Which he definitely deserved.

But only 22 snaps, and he snags 2 sacks, and a fumble recovery.

Fantastic work RK!

Not sure you got my sarcasm, but anyway...

Yes he's deserved it before on a few occasions but it may be a case of looking back and seeing who due win it instead of him? Was there a better performance that eclipsed his the same week? I have no idea, but if not then yes it makes you wonder why it took so long.

It really is amazing. 22 snaps and made a huge impact. Has me salivating thinking about how far our d-line depth will take us this year.

Also stealing this from Reddit but this list is crazy. From the first round of 2011, pass rushers:

Von Miller - 106 sacks
JJ Watt - 96 sacks
Ryan Kerrigan - 92 sacks
Justin Houston - 90.5 sacks
Cam Jordan - 87 sacks
Robert Quinn - 80.5 sacks

And in case you guys need some more Kerrigan highlights in your life, here's all 3 pick-sixes of his career. What a fucking stud.

Re: Ryan Kerrigan Appreciation thread.

He nearly had another pick 6 against Wentz on Sunday. One play he had a clear sack if he wanted it but was jumping up and down in front of Wentz to swat a pass for an easy TD. He was going for it!

How can you not root for this guy??

I loved seeing him out there. He's an effort guy and always has been.
That kind of mentality is contagious and I think the rest of the DL fed off it.

I'm so glad he broke the record :D

If the 49ers make an offer and we have a losing record at around the trade deadline, Washington better not give him away like SF thinks they will. Trade him for their left tackle...

Hard to argue with that, but given the different scenario to TW we should play hardball. We don't have a glaring need to trade him and get some kind of value back (although he is UFA next year), and if SF come calling their need is far greater. The reverse of the TW trade; they want a pro bowl capable player, they have to at least come close to a pro bowl level offer.

Q presumably we'd value picks over a player swap (or combo). Would you go for a package of lower picks or try to get a single higher (rd 2?) pick?

We would def need to get a OL in return but I don't see them doing that deal. Plus if we beat CLE Sunday 2-1 is a solid start. I'm not ready to write them off just yet

They have 4 pretty good TE’s one being the one they drafted that Cooley liked.

I think Thomas has been solid actually.

Re: Ryan Kerrigan Appreciation thread.

Kerrigan has stated numerous times he wants to finish his career here. And he fills a role on this team and Chase loves him. He is not getting traded this year.
