What do you want to see in our next QB?
OK, based on a few posts about the 2021 QB prospects and looking at the current slew of mobile NFL QB's, I thought I'd ask this question. I figured a vote won't work as there are potentially too many permutations. I figured better to list characteristics and pick the ideal.
1) Mobile 2) Accurate 3) Big arm 4) Touch 5) Leader 6) Pocket Passer 7) Runner 8) Pocket presence 9) Height (is this really that important any more?) 10) Footwork 11) Intangibles (explain?) 12) Other - anything you think I missed? For me my priorities would be 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 10, 11. I'm not sure I necessarily want 7 over 6 (or vice versa), as long as the team is built around this option. For intangibles I'd go for personality; can the kid not just carry the team with him but also the fans, and impact the community and wider NFL. For example, Rodgers persona extends beyond the football field, he seems to have a good character that endears him to more than just GB fans. I want a guy who's mobile so he can help the OL and extend plays. I'm not convinced he has to be a runner. I think Russell is the exception here as he's both an accomplished passer and a runner. Murray isn't there yet, as his outing last night suggests (9-for-24 for 188 yards, 93.8 rating), and likewise, Jackson seems to rely more on his feet than his passing ability. Mahomes is more in Russell's mould; he can extend plays and run if he has to but it isn't something he/their offense relies on. I can't help thinking that Russell and Mahomes will last longer in the NFL than Jackson or Murray, due to wear and tear, so I'd rather have a guy who's a passer first and a runner last. If I'm picking top 10 next year (let's for a minute assume we have the #1 pick option), then Lawrence and Fields seem to fit that bill best (though I'm dubious about another OS QB). Lance and Newman seem to be more running QB's to me. Beyond that, I'm not sure I see a top 10 talent worth risking a pick? |
Re: What do you want to see in our next QB?
Picked by Rivera and not Snyder.

Re: What do you want to see in our next QB?
I hate to answer in this way but it doesn't look to me like a good crop of QB's in the upcoming draft. Trading down in Round 1 for more picks might be the way to go in Year 2 of the team build. We could draft a QB a bit later in the draft.
12) Toughness. |
Re: What do you want to see in our next QB?
The 3 most important qualities for me are...
1. Accuracy 2. Intelligence 3. Character Our last 2 1st round QBs failed on all 3 so things can only get better. |
What do you want to see in our next QB?
Someone who doesn’t suck.....12
Honestly I dont care how they get it done...pocket, mobile, or if they are short or tall. Accuracy or a cannon...just get it done. The problem is when you do not have a good scheme, a good line, a good run game, a defense that can keep you on the field. There are quarterbacks that would succeed on other teams but not this one. But if by some miracle we assemble a complete team and staff around them i don’t really care how they get it done as long as they get it done. |

Yes, I want the next QB chosen by football people and not dan Snyder...no more rg3, pat ramsey, mcnabb, Haskins, etc. He doesn’t make the choice. |

Trevor Lawrence
Justin Fields Zach Wilson In that order |

https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/football-team/report-patriots-consider-washington-threat-sign-cam-newton-2021
If we win some games and dont fall in love with a Qb available at picks 5 to 10 (or wherever we pick) ... I am 100% down with going with a vet. Ideally, you draft your young stud QB and he becomes your Manning or Brady or Rodgers or Rivers or Wilson or even a Matthew Stafford ... but if you arent in a position to take a Trevor Lawrence, why not do what the Colts did and sign a vet like Philip Rivers. This team is close to winning imo. The DL is a great core that gives us a window from 2021 to 2025. We intentionally didnt spend in FA this year. Cap next year is expected to SHRINK to 175M ... that means teams like New Orleans who would be 70M over the cap already may cut Brees. 2021 free agency is going to be the strangest year ever imo. Teams may be cutting some real studs. LT Ronnie Stanley QB - Brees or Ryan or some other vet option may be there LB CB1 FS G ------------------------------------ We can become competitive over night in the offseason. We are well positioned and loaded with resources. |

But personally I'd avoid a vet that's tailing off. Brees looks to me like his arm is finally dying on him and Newton looks like the same passer he was in Carolina the last couple of years. While he is a prototypical pocket passer, I'd prefer Ryan, albeit he would absolutely need 2-3 more quality players to target. We'd need at least 1 if not 2 quality WR's, a quality receiving TE and another threat out of the backfield to go with Gibson (in the Chris Thompson mould). At least Cam can still run, but the likes of Brees and Ryan mean you have to have weapons they can throw to, as they definitely can't run. I'd even consider Fitzmagic in the same category. |

Ill go on the record and say yes. And he will be a better pro. |
Re: What do you want to see in our next QB?
Trevor Lawrence had a spectacular Freshman year, slightly down last year. He’ll be #1 QB picked, the kid from BYU should be #2, don’t trust OSU QB’s.

Yes, he's the total package man. He has that special IT factor that we have seen with Rodgers, Wilson , Mahomes etc. There isn't a throw he can't make and he's a great athlete as well. |

Not sure where you are getting slightly down last year from. He improved in td’s, completion percentage, yards, and overall rating last year. His rating this year is through the roof. He has never taken a step back in three years. His mobility greatly improved also in his second year. Dude has wheels. Im a Miami fan. I fucking hate Clemson and Trevor but the dude is legit. |

Don’t get me wrong, I love Lawrence. Wanted him after his Freshman year. |

I don't think it would. I'm not exactly sold on Fields being in the top 3 of collegiate QBs. Nor am I sold on Ohio State QBs. |

Yes. 6' 6" 220 pounds In just 2 1/4 seasons he has 81 TD's, 13 interceptions and 8,489 passing yards. 794 yards rushing and 14 rushing TD's When you watch Lawrence in games (not highlights) he jumps off the screen. He is the complete deal and is very poised. True freshman National Champion. He has stuck around and gained the experience. His accuracy is very good. Having given it more thought, I would be fine with losing the rest of the games to get him. The problem is other teams doing the same thing. |

Stanley is a stud but that is a lot of dough he will command. If we are sitting at 2 or 3 a lot of people seem to be high on Sewell out of Oregon. |

6'6 is nice and all but that doesn't mean he will be great, what makes him great is his accuracy and timing. Also he is a Mahomes like off platform thrower and can extend any play. The issue is the JETS are clearly tanking for him and they will go 0-16 if they have to |

I agree normally but not when it is someone like Lawrence. Let him sit and learn the offense while we assemble a line in front of him. |

If we end up at one I agree or if the Jets do something amazingly Jet like in the draft we take him second. We could lose out and I think the Jets still have the 1. They are so bad. |
Re: What do you want to see in our next QB?
We should trade for Kirk Cousins.
|
Re: What do you want to see in our next QB?
I just can't get into these kind of threads. We got a lot of games to play and we are already talking about a player that isn't on the damn team.

Unless Gase gets fired I don’t see the Jets taking Lawrence. Darnold has played pretty well for only having Jamison Crowder, a couple sacks of potatos and a stale ham sandwich to work with on offense. |
Re: What do you want to see in our next QB?
So we drafted Chase young and crowned him king and cant miss future all pro based on his college career but We can’t do the same for Lawrence?? Based on what I see and what this damn team needs I would trade right now Young and Allen for Lawrence .. without QB you have the WFT

My point in posting was this year is a wash*, so what would people look for in a proper franchise QB, not necessarily who. *I know it's mathematically possible but come on. Most I can see us winning is 4 more games. |

Re: What do you want to see in our next QB?
If we end up with the first pick it should be Lawrence. Ohio QB's haven't done very well in the NFL as long for as long as I remember. If we don't have the number 1 pick I would either go with Ja'Marr Chase WR or Sewell OT. I would go heavy on the O-line for the rest of the draft but also draft 1 or 2 DB's - and wait for QB in the next draft..... Also sign a VET QB
