Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
I guess Ill make the Election Day thread. I would suggest we keep this to current news and updates on the Election. Ideally people would post links and tweets re early election results, election lines, voter issues, your own experience voting.
Id like to keep this as informative as possible so lets try not to rehash policy discussions etc as there are threads for that. Just election based news. Or dont. Do what you want. I imagine its gonna get nasty at times up in here so lets all try to be as civil as possible but lets also have some fun and sling some monkey poo too. If I call you an asshole, I mean it in the nicest way possible. To which ever candidate wins, congratulations. Half the country hates your guts and will make your life miserable for the next 4 years. |
Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
One of the issues weve been repeatedly warned about is that with the unprecedented mail-in voting, and some States not counting the mail-in votes until Election day, is that we will not know the winner for days or weeks after November 3, 2020.
Wisconsin and Pennsylvania (2 huge swing states) plus Mississippi and Alabama do not start counting mail-in votes until Election Day. https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2020/politics/mail-in-voting/ In Pennsylvania, about 3.02 million voters have requested mail-in ballots. More than 57 percent of them have already been returned, according to the latest statistics from the Pennsylvania Department of State made available on Monday afternoon All told, that means roughly a third of all registered Pennsylvania voters have chosen to vote by mail. There are 9,016,163 total registered voters in the state. If there's a roughly similar voter turnout to 2016, when a little over 6 million Pennsylvanians voted, that would mean roughly half of all ballots are mail-ins. https://patch.com/pennsylvania/lansdale/more-3-million-pa-voters-have-requested-mail-ballots MADISON, Wis. (AP) — More than 75,000 people in Wisconsin cast ballots on the first day of early in-person voting in the presidential battleground state, the state elections commission reported. Mail-in absentee voting has been available since September and more than 1 million people have already returned their ballots that way. The combined total of mail-in and early in-person votes cast in the state thus far amounts to 34% of the total votes cast in Wisconsin during the 2016 presidential election. https://apnews.com/article/election-2020-madison-wisconsin-state-elections-elections-9859063fdfc2f7d5afde024f64f00333 |

Covid will doom trump on an election result coming into this year which I would guess around 50/50

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
This election is going to make hanging chads seem like the cleanest election in the history of mankind.
Whichever side loses, is going to call the whole thing a fraud, and an invalid election. And the discussion will go on all the way until the 2024 election. This is going to be fucking brutal. |
Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
It’s absolutely fucking retarded I’m getting these fuckin text messages now from campaigns. Fuck this...this is unacceptable. Moveon just text me and asking me for money.
Just like a socialist, asking for a fucking hand out We need to put a law on the books against this shit |

My phone hasnt gotten anything but it is a commercial line that is advertised so I get a ton of cold calls but never any text. Im in Maryland and I wouldnt spend a dime in MD if I was in either party. Spend that money on Wisconsin, PA, Iowa etc. ---------------------------------- I looked up Virginia to see if if was swing state. 51% Biden, 39% Trump ... I thought Virginia was closer than that. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/virginia/ Virginia last voted for a republican president in 2000 for George Bush. Looks like Hillary won by 215k votes-- 1,981,000 to 1,769,000 ---------------- is "fivethirtyeight" a reliable source for polls? There format is very user friendly. Not that I trust polling after 2106 .. |
Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
I generally trust fivethirtyeight, got into them a couple years ago for the baseball and football analysis actually. But it's trustworthy to me even if I don't generally understand the science of it.
Anybody care to have a discussion about why a Supreme Court nominee can be elected for life by a simple majority vote but we can't have a simple majority vote for a 4 year presidential term? |

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
Trump will lose by about 10% as well as in the EC. Biden will be worse unless the dems declare him incompetent and put Harris in. That may be their plan

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
Biden will surround himself with a more than capable cabinet. All they have to do is roll him out via weekend at Bernie's style for the next 4 years. He won't be on Twitter, he won't be picking fights with everyone, the nonsense will be over unless you watch Fox News where they will probably routinely blast him for wearing tan suits or for using a selfie stick in the WH.

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
Biden is mentally incompetent you can see it as clear as with Trump. At best he will be a puppet

Fuckin unleashed a plague on the world, has concentration camps for Muslims where they are slaves for corps....and Biden will probably undo economic agreements and get back to deals that favor the Chinese over Americans |

The electoral college has never been more necessary.

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
The good thing is that even if Biden wins, him and Harris are gonna do such a shitty job, a more conservative person will have an actual chance of winning in 2024.

Foreign policy doesn’t win elections (kinda the saying) but I think it’s more impactful than moderate policy changes between dem/rep administrations on domestic issues. |
Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
You guys mad already lol
I am mad that our system puts 2 clearly incompetent people up and says they are the only choice. Secondarily, I am mad that the Republican and Democratic parties have a stranglehold on the process. I would like to see the debates and voting system wrestled away from the media and the 2 parties. Never gonna happen though. |
Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
Personally I can't wait to sit back for the next 2 years and blame any failures on Trump and put all the credit on Biden for any success especially with the economy. Oh and I can't wait for the Rona to magically go away after the election.

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
If Biden wins there is about a 50% chance that Harris could be president. Just let that sink in. If Trump wins you can bet that there will be riots.

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
Once in a blue moon, you see a poll that makes you blink twice to make sure you’re not seeing things. This morning’s ABC News/The Washington Post survey of Wisconsin was just such a poll. It showed Joe Biden 17 points (not a typo) ahead of President Trump, 57 percent to 40 percent, among likely voters. To put it mildly, this is a stunning margin in what is supposed to be one of the most competitive swing states in the country — a place that Trump carried by less than 1 percentage point in 2016.
RABA Research was out with a poll yesterday showing Biden at 50 percent and Trump at 46 percent in Iowa. Last week, the A+ pollsters Monmouth University and Siena College/The New York Times Upshot found similar margins. Iowa, remember, is a fairly red state that Trump carried by 9 points in 2016. And for the first time, our forecast now gives Biden a better chance than Trump of winning the state, although it’s still basically a coin flip (Biden’s odds are 51 in 100). Yesterday, Gravis Marketing released a survey of Minnesota in which Biden led Trump by 14 points. Biden’s chances of winning Minnesota have now reached an all-time high of 94 in 100. On Sunday, we also got a Gravis poll of Michigan that gave Biden a 13-point lead. That’s on top of last week’s Fox News poll of Michigan showing Biden 12 points ahead. And this morning, ABC News/Washington Post also released a Michigan poll giving Biden a smaller 7-point lead. Overall, our forecast gives Biden a 94 in 100 chance of winning the Wolverine State. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/what-to-make-of-that-new-wisconsin-poll-that-has-biden-way-ahead/ Wisconsin - Biden Michigan - Biden Minnesota - Biden Iowa - toss up leaning Biden |

Trump just did a rebrand on the entire Republican party. Mitt Romney was the last straw, Trump rewrote the playbook. It doesn't matter what you say, facts/science/haters be damned, just make sure you say it loud and rile the base up. Never apologize or admit you were wrong ever. Publicly dividing half the country ftw. Liz Cheney or Kid Rock 2024! |

The leader of the Oath Keepers also said there'd be riots if Biden won. Looking forward to these totally-not-racist militias mobilizing no matter who wins. Riots either way. Trump wins they'll be out there defending property. Biden wins they'll be out there protesting the Dems cheating the election. |

Really it will all come down to COVID! As really had the President urged on those over in the having to deal with it by having social distancing and wearing masks. Really he could lose over on this.

I think Sunny posted an article about of the 9 million voters in PA about half have requested mail in and only half have been received. There are going to be too many people who go aw f it and not mail it in. Any time voter turn out is low it favors Republicans IMO. They are the more consistent voting block. |

I'd like to see an update to it. Not a state winner take all but more akin to what Nebraska and Maine have been doing. A presidential election should matter to all voters and not just the whims of a few swing states. |

He's never voted before (and probably never will again after this election) simply because he doesn't think it will change anything for the better. And there is a lot more people out there that think along those lines too. |
