The Chase Young Effect (Appreciation thread)
After a full season now (1 week left) Chase Young is the highest graded Washington player (87.1) and coming off his best grade yesterday against Carolina. He is also a team captain now, I will admit I wanted Tua over CY as many on here know but I'm glad we didn't make that move now.
Chase is the difference maker this defense has needed since Sean Taylor died, I actually feel confident now when the defense is on the field. It's not just about sacks which if you looked at the stat sheet he isn't in the top tier , it's about the pressures and run game defense. I know I may be a little ahead of myself here but he looks like our Aaron Donald, someone that will be a game wrecker for over a decade. |
Re: The Chase Young Effect (Appreciation thread)
I'm hoping your right about the Donald comparison.
Our defense has been lacking that "spark" since Sean's murder. I also agree that watching the defense come on the field is more exciting than watching a non-Alex Smith lead offense. -Mike- |

Re: The Chase Young Effect (Appreciation thread)
CY has been as good as advertised. Really impressed with him on and off the field. A guy you can definitely build a winner around.

Re: The Chase Young Effect (Appreciation thread)
he has the IT factor too with a high motor

Re: The Chase Young Effect (Appreciation thread)
Young definitely proved his value last night.. In the last few weeks, some veterans complimented Young's leadership, which is pretty amazing since he is only a rookie.
Also, Young went even further than many players who gave gifts to each other, Young bought and gave Beats headphone to everyone on the team. While this gift is simple, this shows me that Young is truly a leader. Good leaders don't forget anyone on their team. |
Re: The Chase Young Effect (Appreciation thread)
He's a true team leader on and off the field - for the entire team, not just the D. He's always bouncing around on the sidelines, very aware of what's going on throughout the game, even when he's not on the field (not just because he knows he doesn't really have time to sit down thanks to the offense - haha).
In hindsight only, the only player in that first round that I might consider over Chase Young would be Justin Herbert. He looks like the real deal...but Chase was absolutely the correct pick for this organization. Hopefully he's a cornerstone for this defense and this team for a long time. |

Although we need to acknowledge the fact that almost everyone thought Herbert is not in the same class with Burrow and Tua so it's not like many people saw the Herbert rise coming. |

Born to play football We have maybe 3 guys on our team in that category with him being No. 1 |

He started slow because of the groin injury, now that he’s healthy you get to see the real Chase. |
Re: The Chase Young Effect (Appreciation thread)
Normally I wouldn't approve of a rookie being named captain, but Chase is the exception.
I agree with everyone else, first time we've had a player on D who you just eyeball every play to see what he does since Sean died. Even London Fletcher in his heydey never had that effect. I hope he is the cornerstone that will lead this defense into the elite category. We're not there yet, especially on run D, but we've made major improvement since last year. |
Re: The Chase Young Effect (Appreciation thread)
Ditto everything said in this thread so far -- even the Herbert accolades, although I wouldn't trade Chase for Justin.
My favorite thing about Young? Even when double teamed, he ALWAYS finishes on the play ... running 20-30 yards downfield when the play is past him. THAT shows up on film when the entire D is breaking down the previous game ... and that will spread to other players too. Our D is gonna be tasty good as Young learns the nuances of the game. |
Re: The Chase Young Effect (Appreciation thread)
Chase was the correct pick !!! I love his attitude and leadership!!! We got the best of that draft !!

And the trade to get Montez Sweat makes up for the Haskins screw up. |

to be fair had we not taken Haskins we would have taken Sweat at 15 and had the 2nd rounder that we gave up to the Colts |
Re: The Chase Young Effect (Appreciation thread)
You are so right. Chase Young has taken the lights off the Haskins disaster, as well as the Snyder investigation.
Even bigger will be that point in the future when fans can come back to see the team. Chase Young will draw the fans who left because of 20 years of mediocrity. He will bring back the fans who left because of Snyder. Next season the WFT will hopefully have Chase Young, a new team NAME, a new franchise QB and finally, we might have a new owner. But in the beginning they will come to see Chase Young!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: The Chase Young Effect (Appreciation thread)
Phil Simms was good not great. But they had LT. Chase Young is a piece that can take some pressure off the QB to be the next Patrick Mahomes. He was the right pick then and still is the right pick now.

We probably could have drafted Sweat at 15 and kept the 2nd rounder if we didn't have Napoleon. |
Re: The Chase Young Effect (Appreciation thread)
The video of CY talking up Heinike during the game is priceless. Love this kid. And man he plays with an abandon that is so rare - LT, Sean, and only a few other guys really have it.

When was the last time a defensive rookie took home DROTM and DPOTM? Triple stamped lock of the year. |

In "news everybody saw coming" your triple stamped lock of the year is about to happen. |
Re: The Chase Young Effect (Appreciation thread)
As thrilled as I am that he is on our team, i am equally thrilled he is not on the NYG team.

Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
This is why I'm not upset about Philly pulling guys and pulling Hurts last. Like any of them are going to remember week 17 last year if they draft a difference maker in the first next year who helps them win more games. |
Re: The Chase Young Effect (Appreciation thread)
Agree with Young defensive ROY...lock
Who is the offensive ROY? My guy is WR Justin Jefferson, but Herbert been impressive. James Robinson and Taylor were a couple RB putting up big numbers too. but neither have been as wow as Herbert or Jefferson So glad the Eagles didn’t get Jefferson, they chose WR Reagor instead of Jefferson the pick before. Congratulations, you played yourself |
Re: The Chase Young Effect (Appreciation thread)
I few days ago I saw something saying Jefferson was the best rookie pickup, but we have
#2: Chase Young #11: Kamren Curl #13: Antonio Gibson of all the rookies. Sorry, I don't remember where I got it from, but they ranked the 25 best rookies. |
Re: The Chase Young Effect (Appreciation thread)
I think Jefferson and Herbert will split OROY, but it will be a close vote. Both of them had very impressive years.

The Chase Young Effect (Appreciation thread)
Chase is excellent, but with a really good DL coach this offseason he could be GREAT next year. Right now he has ONE major pass rush move: a speed rush to try to get around the OT to the QB. Because he is so fast, this occasionally works. It worked great in college because he was so fast. If he used stunts with the DT or a swim move be wouldn’t so predictable. He would get more sacks. The good OT are just backing up and pushing him out and upfield. He’s taking to longest way to the QB. Sweat improved a lot his second season and I’m sure Young could too.
But for Chase to get to double digit sacks he’s got to diversify his pass moves! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Idk about you guys but I love seeing mic'd up videos. Love seeing and hearing what players are saying on the field. Love seeing them chatting up guys, giving and getting respect from opposing players. You can really see the energy Chase brings. He's got a bright future. |
