Around the NFL - 2023 Offseason Thread

XFL is back.

Let's go D.C. Defenders! Sounds like this name was done by the same folks that gave us the Commanders.

Former Philadelphia Eagles captain Chris Maragos has been awarded $43.5 million in a lawsuit against his doctors over a career-ending knee injury.

The jury at the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas found that orthopedic surgeon James Bradley and Rothman Orthopaedics were negligent in the medical malpractice case, causing harm to two-time Super Bowl-winning safety and forcing him to end his NFL career prematurely.

Bradley was found to be 67% negligent ($29.2 million) and Rothman Orthopaedics 33% ($14.3 million), according to court documents.

Team doctors rush player back to field.

Doctors best interest is team who pays him, not the patient player.

Another player won big as well.

More to come i assume

In the process of moving, got done right at 8, to watch the Defenders game. Turns out, I really am an idiot, they play tomorrow at 8. Good stuff.

Defenders 1-0 baby!! Managed to actually stay awake* and watch the whole game. It was OK. But it's hard to be too fun with mediocre at best QB play.

Danny Dimes wants $45 mil per year it looks:

@NFL_DovKleiman
Update: #Giants QB Daniel Jones wants more than New York has offered him. Possibly as much as $45 million per year, or more. A source tells Mike Florio.

Jones has recently switched agents, from CAA to Athletes First.

Yeah it's being reported but seems to be very little truth in it. Jones dumped his old agent so rumors are running rampant, it was 35 last week , this week 45.

Peyton knows him...............

"Although Kilgore has never previously coached at the professional level, he did spend six seasons as a quarterback in the Canadian Football League. He also spent training camp in 2014 as a player with Payton and the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Middle Tennessee."

The Dan Jones thing is interesting. Lot’s of reputable outlets reporting 45 million. The thing I like is how they opted to not pick up 5th year for 22 million but sound like they are willing to tag him for 32.

The Giants signing Jones for anywhere near that amount is beneficial to me and the Commanders. I'm all for it from that perspective.

But from just being an NFL fan in general, I think it's ridiculous if he gets between 35 to 45 million. So if that's crying to you, then I can't fix stupid.

Yup add in that a few other QBs sign that will go from 32 to 40 but at 32 mill he will still be in the middle of the pack pay wise. Giants had no cap space last year, they couldn't sign him.

Once Hurts, Burrows and Hurbert resign Jones will around #15 pay wise at 32 million.

what is so weird about Lamar and i see it first hand here in Bmore is he never really assimilated with the city or this team.

Even their playoff game he wasn't there, just seemed odd he wouldn't support his teammates:

Lamar Jackson wasn't on the sideline for Baltimore's playoff game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Just before kickoff, NBC's Melissa Stark reported that Jackson didn't travel with the team to Cincinnati. Jackson's absence from the active list was expected.

He is also not super active in the Bmore community which desperately needs a leader

Too me and its just my opinion he never really or has never really called Bmore home.

There is no emotional connection for him to stay.

The offense style would fit him perfectly and that division is up for grabs.

He isn't worth that much, and every dollar that goes to him is a dollar that can't go to someone else. By all means pay him $45 million. Hell, give him $50 million and make it a nice even number.

I'm going to try to make this my last response to you on this site. I'd rather have a conversation with Wilson.

I would like to see data that shows how effective the franchise tag is in finally generating a long term contract with the team. Maybe it is just the Washington track record with using it but I don't see it effective.

I agree, when tagged 100% is on the cap for that season. As I understand it they can negotiate all the way till mid June then the tag becomes a contract.
Lamar to ATL is picking up steam
Anyone but us.

Lamar's problem is he relies on his legs to make plays. Once his legs are gone he's shot - he will never be a typical pocket qb that can evade the rush and play into his late 30's. Plus he hasn't stayed healthy for an entire season in years. Once he gets injury prone that contract is gonna be hard to get rid of.

if lamar was a QB with the skill set of burrow right now Bmore would have already signed him and be done. Bmore is thinking the same as you mooby.

I agree w/ this. Fields has a more long-lasting body type and he can develop into a better pocket passer. Jackson has maxed out his potential as a passer imo. He is who he is.

Re: Around the NFL - 2023 Offseason Thread

I don't want Lamar but I think he is undervalued as a passer. Earlier in his career he was top 10 in many metrics passing but was overshadowed by his amazing speed. He has regressed as a passer the last two years. Injuries? No weapons? I don't care it is enough of a red flag for me to stay away.

Chief X_Phackter 02-22-2023 02:33 PM

Re: Around the NFL - 2023 Offseason Thread

I don't want any QB that requires a trade. I want to keep our assets (draft picks/players) and roll with Howell and a Veteran backup who can come in and not lose the game when (if) called upon. If Howell turns out to not be the guy, the record will surely reflect that, and we can address the QB position next year under new ownership and staff, and hopefully have a better/deeper team around whoever that may be.

He will have his growing pains, but I am somewhat optimistic about Howell, but it will largely depend on the coaches who are ultimately brought in to develop him and this offense, and whether or not they can successfully revamp this O-line.

In fairness to Lamar, he never had any legit WRs in BMore

In Washington I feel like he'd be an MVP Candidate but it would cost a shit ton to get him
