Really hope this works out. But with the way things typically go for this franchise, I can't help but think it's not going to work out the way we're hoping and we find out the Chiefs success was all due to Reid and Mahomes and EB was just along for the ride. Really hope to be proven wrong here. |
Re: Sources: Commanders finalize deal to make Eric Bieniemy new OC
I love it. I like going with experienced OC over a young guy.
I honestly believe he will be able to connect more with the players. While we know QB is always the question, I most excited for the skill players…AG, BR, Thomas, and especially our 3 big play WR. Expect a better scheme and better game planning It’s going be on like donkey Kong |
Re: Sources: Commanders finalize deal to make Eric Bieniemy new OC
I respect what Eric Bieniemy has accomplished in his coaching career and I expect his hiring to be a significant boost to our offense.
|
Re: Sources: Commanders finalize deal to make Eric Bieniemy new OC
The bigger issue here is with the possible sale of the team a new owner could come in and blow everything out next year and we're back to square one.
|
Re: Sources: Commanders finalize deal to make Eric Bieniemy new OC
Definitely approve. However, let's all be honest, KC wasn't winning SB's and becoming a top offense until Mahomes took over. It always comes down to players and most importantly who you got under center.
When Alex Smith was playing they were making the playoffs and getting bounced. They draft Mahomes, they got 2 SB's and now Andy Reid is going into the HOF. |

Of course it's a team game, but if you don't have an elite QB, or at least a really good QB playing at an elite level for a season, you don't have a shot at the big game. We don't know if we have one yet, and we know we don't have an offensive line to protect him. Still a lot of work to do, but bringing in EB doesn't set us back. It's a sad day for the NFL though IMO - the fact that he has to take this job to 'prove himself', but it's a great day for Washington fans in the sense that we have offseason hope again. Here's to hoping EB can right the offensive ship and bring out the best in Howell. |

I wouldn’t be surprised if things are in place now for the new owner Usually DS will sign someone he wants right away ; the delay in EB signing makes me think DS need to run it by the new guy first All reports say by march it should be sold , fuck it takes what 90 days to close a house must times, there has got be some paperwork involved in this sale was well |

My thought is that once the sale happens, and the dust settles....EB is in an incredibly advantageous spot to be the new owners head coach. Maybe that's why EB took a lateral move type position was to put himself in a spot to have a chance at that HC job once it opens up. |
Re: Sources: Commanders finalize deal to make Eric Bieniemy new OC
What Eric Bieniemy's move means for the Chiefs, Commanders and his career.

Re: Sources: Commanders finalize deal to make Eric Bieniemy new OC
I don't understand how people think this move puts EB in line to be the new HC for Washington. Unless you are assuming that after a successful 2023 season RR will step aside.
There are two potential outcomes that I see: 1. The 2023 season is a dud. The offense sputters, we waste another season with these weapons and limp to an average record = everybody is fired. 2. The 2023 season is a success. The offense is top 10-15, the defense is top 10, we compete for the division title, make it to the playoffs and win at least one game = RR stays, finds a new OC, and EB is a head coach somewhere else in 2024. |

So we're scoring points but other things go south and we still keep losing too much. But it's very unlikely in general, not just here, that if a HC gets fired, you simply just give it to someone else on the team. It would very likely be a new hire from outside of the organization. |

I’m saying a new owner will likely bring in his own HC and there’s no guarantee EB is retained beyond next season. |

Andy Reid always gets over on Washington. Whenever he needs to dump someone he calls Dan. |

I disagree. I think move keeps Snyder here as Owner. I think he has inflated the price ,rumors are no bid has come close to the 7 Billion he is asking for. |
Re: Sources: Commanders finalize deal to make Eric Bieniemy new OC
I really don't see how hiring a new offensive coordinator changes Dan's mind on selling. Why?

I hope in a couple years he is a very successful HC and alot of other teams are wishing they would have hired him. A lot of that is gonna depend on Howells progression and what we do about the Oline this offseason. We certainly got the weapons. |
I'm beginning to think he never was going to sell the team.
I personally think he was willing to sell initially because he believed that he was going to have no problem getting the 7 billion that he wanted. Now that it is known that he isn't getting anywhere close to that, he can just come back and say "I wanted to sell but I didn't get my asking price". I think that Dan has been of the mindset for the past several weeks that he isn't selling and has just been doing due diligence for IF someone shows up out of the blue and offers 7 billion. |

This. I'm not expecting a lot out of next season. But I'm happy we got a competent OC to hopefully make it an entertaining and not-hopeless season nonetheless. |

Offense is successful but Defense isn't, average record, new owner likes and trusts EB and is happy to make an easy move to keep being the new nice guy in town, elevates him to HC. Not saying 3 is more likely than 1 and 2, but this possibility exists. Now, do I think that's EB's reasoning and why he took the job? Absolutely not. I just think he failed so many HC job interviews before and has realized he needs to get out of Andy Reid's shadow to get some real respect and eventually land a HC job. Rivera won't shadow him at all, if the offense works well all the credit will be EB's. |
Re: Sources: Commanders finalize deal to make Eric Bieniemy new OC
Make no mistake about it, the NFC East and Washington both improved a whole lot with this deal.

In regards to the hire, I like it for the upcoming season but I still hope they blow it up when the new owner arrives.

Lolol. There's a 3% chance this works out. But it's all irrelevant until the ownership situation is settled. |
Re: Sources: Commanders finalize deal to make Eric Bieniemy new OC
I didn't love Turner but I'm not sure the OC was ever the reason we've been bottom 3rd in the NFL in offense. It's more about iffy personnel moves especially along the OL and lack of ability to find a QB.
If those things get fixed with OL investment and Sam Howell becoming something useful, then EB will look like a genius. If they don't he's going to be playing with two hands tied behind his back just like Turner was. To be clear I think EB is better than Turner so I approve of the hire but I'm just not convinced this is going to make a big difference. It's the blocking and the QB. |

How many times last year would one more TD have possibly won us a game? One more TD instead of a FG? Not hitting that wall at the 30 yard line due to piss poor play calling and piss poor quarterback play. One more first down here and there to give the D a much needed breather.
We do not need the greatest show on turf with our D. We need a semi competent offense. EB and Howell, imo, get us over that little hump that Turner and Wentz or Taylor couldn’t. Even with the same oline we probably get over that hump and win a couple more games last year. Fixing the oline is priority number one though. Minny Tennessee Both Giants games. Detroit? All games that one more score would have won. |
Re: Sources: Commanders finalize deal to make Eric Bieniemy new OC
EB is a better quality candidate than youd imagine we could land at this odd lame duck year coming up.
Im guessing hes one of the top 5 highest paid Coordinators. Good for us. Not sure it adds a W to our record next year but it should be interesting to see a new philosophy. |

How do you know the team has time for the improvements in scheme to matter before the QB comes under pressure? How do you know Howell won't turn it over at the same rate that Wentz did? I think the only definitively true thing you said is fixing the line is priority one. If that doesn't happen we'll be right around 500 again. If it gets fixed, then sure, playoffs are possible. |

How many times did you say wtf is Turner doing? I said it at least 5 times a game. Especially down in that area. Again, without an improved Oline our Offense will struggle. But a better playcall, a more mobile qb, and a more accurate throw probably result in another score here and there. I don’t think that is a far fetched assumption. There were plenty of times last year our oline held their own and we all asked wtf was that playcall or who the hell was he throwing to? We got a solid D, and plenty of weapons on offense. I think a more capable qb and OC would have had us in the playoffs last year. If you want to argue that Sam is better than Taylor or Carson well that is another story. I certainly think he is/will be. Anyway fix the oline and couple that with EB and Sam and the offensive problems most definitely go away. |
