Re: Cards post game

EB has to be much better with this OL. Gotta play to what you're talent allows you to do.

This line is a bad combo with a green QB.

Howell needs to develop a faster internal clock, but that's unsurprising. He doesn't get dejected and give up. He made some good plays too.

Defense did their jobs. Good stuff. Glad we kept Payne. Him, JA, and Sweat are a great trio.

Sweat has to stay too. Franchised or extended.

You pretty much said it all. Yet, this win was more than just any old win to me because of what this game represented after more than 20 years in football purgatory. I really needed it. Thank you, Commanders players!

Re: Cards post game

First regular season game with EB and you have expect some growing pains early in the season.
Howell has to release the ball faster or take off running for positive yards. Don’t make cuts or try and fake anyone out. You are not Barry Sanders. The better NFL defenses will eat him alive.
The defense looked ok against a scrub QB.
They have to play smarter and avoid the turnovers, if there is any chance against the good teams.

skinsnut 09-10-2023 05:04 PM

Re: Cards post game

I do like that after 6 sacks and 3 turnovers, and offensive adjustment was made to stop throwing the ball 70% of the time and run. Without that adjustment, we lose. Whether EB made that call or someone else, we may never know. Running for a field goal to go up by 4, just doesn't seem like EB style to me

OK Debi Downer time.

We had trouble with what many consider the worst team in the league right now. The OL is bad, really bad, probably as bad if not worse than last year's line. Howell really didn't play that well, but since it is only his 2d game will need to see more. Logan Thomas dropped how many passes?? I think 4 and maybe more.

I agree and SH is 2-0 as a QB in the NFL. I don’t care about stats and all that, wins matter and so far he’s doing that.

Super happy we won. Pretty bad if they had lost. But, oline not good at all. Howell must get rid of the ball quicker. Really hope to see that v. Denver.

Arizona's defense played better than expected really.

If some are not convinced with Howell. Would you rather have Cousins, Wentz or Heinecken? None of them, rather have SH. He will prove it the more he plays.

this is how I feel but it feels a lot better winning. but if it was against pretty much anyone else, that is a loss. they just picked up their qb a couple weeks ago and started him. lol. plus dobbs is terrible. the cards are trying to lose games but look competitve in the process..

start turner over thomas. enough of the former qb at TE experiment. thomas is a nice story and all but turner is ready to come in and ball.

o-line is horseshit. if ron is kept after this year he needs to be stripped of gm duties.

He’s a playmaker and a kid that will get better with reps. His arm talent is better than anyone we’ve had since RG3.

Cousins is a damn good QB tho so can’t hate him too much lol

Impressed:

-defense didn’t allow a touchdown
-Dline mvp today, Payne, Sweat and Allen wrecked shop

Distressed:
- 3 turnovers
- gave up at least 6 sacks
- cardinals seemed coached to use their helmet as a weapon…seriously fuck off with that dirty shit

Mixed
- EB
- Howell
- run game

I would almost prefer Cosmi or Lucas at RT, the fumble came from EB leaving Wylie on an island when backed up to our endzone, should have kept in some help for him.

Yeah I would take Kirk right now over Sam because Kirk is a better QB. We are one game in and he was shaky at best. Long long way to go, this is his first year starting but he's got a lot to clean up. He almost threw a pick 6 which would have been a back breaker. The fumble was all on him too. The line, EB and Sam have a long way to go.

Sam made mistakes but he was able to overcome them. Hopefully he, EB, and the line can grow from this game. But at the end of the day, they won the game, and that's what important.

As with last year's opening week, there were a lot of "bad" teams that came to play and some of them won.

Sam looked like a rookie. He’s got a long way to go. EB needs to help him out more with the play calling. He was calling plays like Mahomes was out there.

Let’s clarify this. How did Cousins look his 1st year vs Howell? SH will be a much better QB than Cousins and it won’t take long.

Re: Cards post game

As I said before, I needed this win. I don't really care that it wasn't very pretty. And I don't mind the ugly so much because I switched channels enough to know that there were a lot of poorly played games today, especially on the offensive side of the ball. In general, it looks like the defenses are ahead of the offenses at this point. Numerous teams that won today had offenses that didn't play very well and all of those teams have one positive thing in common - they are 1-0.

We all knew that our defense was going to have to carry us again this year. If the offense can just score a little more than they did last season, we should have a decent W-L record.

I would say that the reason all the mistakes were overcame was cause the Cards didn't have a NFL offense. I was thinking that we would blow this team out. The best part of the game was the crowd. That was great to see.

For all of the hype, I thought EB was a huge disappointment. He has to realize that we are not KC. More runs, more under center and more hard play action. Less shotgun with long developing routes.

Kirk had some huge games early in his career. People forget that and only remember the picks. There was plenty of positives early w/ Kirk that you could see he was going to be a good NFL starter. I think Sam has the potential and he certainly has the weapons around him. But Ron has failed him with the line. A young QB must be protected. This line is garbage.

We all said wouldn’t it be nice if we had a QB with Taylor’s heart and determination but with a real NFL arm … that’s exactly what we have in Sam ..
My takeaways from game ..

The Cards are NOT the worse team in league ..
We are a work in progress ( but we knew that going in)..
Gibson fumbles are maddening..
With this Oline I expect Sam will have more strip sack fumbles ..
I would trade Young if we could and go after legit Oline help … we can’t pay all those Dline…
The Refs are horrible and if there is a word more horrible they are it… they ruin the game ..

Yes, we can pay Sweat and Young. Have you seen the number of players the 49ers are paying? Next year you cut, Leno, Thomas, Samuel, Fuller (that's a chunk of change).

Cousins couldn't outplay Baker Mayfield today, even though he has the best WR in football; yeah he threw for 300 yds, but had a pick, two lost fumbles, and no TDs. I really wish fans of this team would stop pining over him.

Moving on from that, I had higher expectations of EBs playcalling, but he needs to adjust better and help Howell. I do think the AZ d-line is underrated though, but yeah, this o-line needs work.

Sam can't be throwing the ball 30 times. Run game needs to be better period. Also, I'm really getting sick of Gibson and his redzone fumbles. We probably would have gone up at least 10-6 if it wasn't for him early on.

If those are the 4 options, Cousins clears the other 3 by miles especially during his time here. I'm not throwing a parade for Howell just yet.

Actually, let me eat crow, because I obviously can't f*cking read stats. Kirk threw more than double the yards than Baker, score as many TDs as him, but had 1 INT and two lost fumbles.

Not that anybody ever questioned it but Sam Howell is tough.

Dude got hit a lot today but stayed poised and ran the offense… in the rain.

He obviously has a ways to go but I like that he’s tough and at least trying to allow a play to develop when he’s getting hit. Not just scrambling in a panic.

If he can speed up his internal clock I think he could be pretty good.

God I hate to indulge this but... kirk also had Kyle during those times.. last time I checked kyle>eb until otherwise. Sam will be fine. Im glad we won. It was ugly, I was sure they were blowing it but they didn't. A TON to improve upon but that's why they play the game. I do not expect to beat Denver next week even as poor as they looked today. Albeit the road and the combo of tweedle dee & tweedle dumb vs. Sean Payton weighs heavy in that feeling and less to do with our roster.... nonetheless. I hope I'm wrong.

Well Fuller and Samuel are free agents next year, so no savings to be had. They have huge amounts of cap next year so no need to cut players for cap space, cut them based on performance not cap hit. Drafting OL and TE 1st and 2nd respectively would seem to be the best scenario. But if they don't improve this year there will be a clearout and every position is up for grabs. If Ron is still here he will pick a DL and a project LB.
