We missed McQuarters, and there seems to be a need for the team at db. Why not sign Law? he's a pro bowl leader with a chip on his shoulder. He will make an impact, and return in good form. I say make a run at him, what do u guys think

If we could only offer McQuarters the veteran minimum, I don't see how we could get or want Law.

i personally am content with our DBs as long as Taylor plays, no need in my eyes to spend the money. Also Law has been available for a LONG time so i don't see why we would pick him up all of a sudden

Want Law YES! He is better than Smoot and Champ (when healthy).
Afford NO. He wants to be the highest paid CB. He will not come cheap.
His problem is he is still recovering from foot injury and will not be able to play for a couple more months (if then). So team are afraid to sign him to a big contract if he might be healthy for season opener.

Why would Ty Law take the veteran minimum to come here when he could presumably make more (even if just a bit) to stay with the Pats and be the prohibitive favorite to get another ring?

u guys r talkin like he's gettin the money that he's askin 4. If he did he would be signed to a contract. Sign back with the pats not gona happen, it was a bitter breakup and I don't see that happenin

I don't think he'd sign for league minimum either and if he did, it would be mercenary-style. Going to a team, signing and then demanding a fat contract.

I see a 1yr for him to prove he's still got it and then he'll go for the price he wants. Give him a Darrelle Gardner contract

When you get "hired guns" you get people who might mesh in the locker room, but don't build overall team chemistry if you're going to lose them the next year.

i feel the skins seriously need to get to the playoffs and he'd help us get there. I think its good to have 1 or 2 guys like that but not the whole team

The only issue I have with that is that signing him would stunt the growth of who we already have. I think Springs is AT or above his level and that Rogers needs his reps and Harris will do a fine job sharing those reps.

I don't mean to keep shooting the idea down, but signing him would not be very mindful of the future unless we could get him for 6 years for a six pack and a pizza.

I don't want him to replace springs or anyone else but i want him to provide quality depth. plus influence rogers we rotate players any way

After the way Law asked for more money a year ago, I don't think he fits the Gibbs' mold of a team player. I'm actually fine with our dbs even if Taylor doesn't play. Here's my analysis of our secondary without Taylor:

Free Safety: Andre Lott provides solid cover skills and good range. His tackling should continue to improve with good coaching.
Strong Safety: Matt Bowen is a fierce blitzer and hard hitter on running downs. He must improve in pass coverage. Look for Ryan Clark to replace him on third and long.
Cornerbacks: Shawn Springs is a solid cover corner who hits hard, makes interceptions, and blitzes off the edge. Walt Harris is a decent corner who will eventually be replaced by the talented (though raw) Carlos Rogers. Rogers will need time to develop, but he will eventually provide solid coverage and decent tackling as a starter.
Backup Safeties: Ryan Clark gained valuable experience last year and could challenge for playing time at both safety positions. He has good range and decent cover skills. Pierson Prioleau is slated as the backup SS, but could see limited action due to Clark's development. Nevertheless, Prioleau will contribute on special teams, and his experience in Williams' defense will allow him some playing time in dime packages.
Backup Corners: Harris is an excellent nickel corner and he will be key in grooming Garnell Wilds to replace him in the future. Ade Jimoh is a decent special teams guy, but tends to get burned in coverage. Rufus Brown, who might make the practice squad, is a prospect for the future.

I definitely would be for the signing of Ty Law. The guy is a pro-bowler who really can shut the hie side of the field when he's in press coverage. He may not be 6-0 but he is very solid in the upper body. He is one of my favorite players in the league so you know he must be good. Law and springs equals a lot of trouble for opposing qbs with rogers waiting in the wings. I wish we would sign him but we want we have other needs to be met. He probably will go to a contender for a super bowl like the steelers or chiefs.

I think our secondary is fine. As a matter of fact, they're better than fine, they're outstanding, especially if you look at the starters at each position. They're the reason we can do the things we can on defense without having a pass rush on the front line.

It seems to me that we have an entire corps of pro-bowl caliber linebackers (Arrington, Washington, Barrow) and a lot of potential there in the second and third string. The main thing we're lacking on defense is a decent pass rusher in the front four. Griffin & co. are a brick wall when it comes to stopping plays in the backfield, but we dont have anyone on the edge that will consistantly draw a double team, so we blitz corners and LBs that could be waiting for an errant forced pass caused by up-front pressure, or taking up a little slack in the one on one single coverage departent that is demanded by blitzing a plethera of guys that can cover to compensate a lack of up front pressure.

Rufus Brown, by the way was a beast in NFLE. He was leading the league in ints for a while until they started throwing away from him, and then 2 of his teammates cought up with him in one game, just because they were too intimidated to throw his way. I know its a different league, but the guy can close better than a used car manager.

Honestly, as much as I love football, I can't bring myself to watch Euoprpen actiotjn. I'm glads to see Rufufs doing os wlel though,.

wow what happened malcolm. did you type that when you were asleep or something. i do watch nfl europe, but only when there isn't anything else on t.v., because even though i like rooting for the players that the redskins have, i can't remember what teams any of them are on, and now that the season's over it's not worth watching anymore. it's not the same as when im watching a redskins game.
