Jonathan Allen given permission to seek a trade (update: he’s been released)

Thank you for your service Mr. Allen - you were a bright spot in a lot of dismal years. But the juice is no longer worth the squeeze. Not personal, just business. Supposedly the draft is good for defensive tackles this year, we're probably not gonna get much for him. Love the person but his best years are behind him. This is the tough part of the business. I'm sure a lot of fans appreciate his hard work in the prime of his career that was pretty much wasted. |
Re: Jonathan Allen given permission to seek a trade
Likely headed to be cut, but Allen played well for us in some tough years.
Hoping he lands on his feet somewhere |
Re: Jonathan Allen given permission to seek a trade
How much will we save with him not on the books

All of it. No guaranteed money this year, his 15+ million will come off the books. |
Re: Jonathan Allen given permission to seek a trade
It would be nice to get a pick for him but seems unlikely, so he will get cut.

Re: Jonathan Allen given permission to seek a trade
Great dude will always root for him

Re: Jonathan Allen given permission to seek a trade
Does he go through waivers if cut or instant FA? someone might come in with a deal if they want to jump the queue.

This interview will always live rent free in my head. He spoke for many of us that day, shame he's getting up there in years. Hope he finds success at his next stop. |
Re: Jonathan Allen given permission to seek a trade
I mean he just turned 30, no reason he can’t still be very productive for a few more seasons
|
Re: Jonathan Allen given permission to seek a trade
This sucks, but Allen didn't really play up to his contract in the last 2 years. For his sake, I hope he will be traded to a contender team.

Re: Jonathan Allen given permission to seek a trade
Really sad that when this organization is finally perhaps ready to turn the corner, Allen won't be here. Just part of a really tough business.
This had to be done. The Payne- Allen duo had run it's course. I think the one word to describe them is underwhelming. Never really lived up to the hype. Sure they had moments, but overall it wasn't what we thought it would be. Gotta wish Jon well though. I'm sure he will have some takers. |
Re: Jonathan Allen given permission to seek a trade
Best of luck to allen. Hope we can muster up something in return.

Only Payne left of The Line That Never Was. Allen coming back after his pec injury was heroic. All the best to him.

Speaking of Chase, I just read that he may sign a deal w/ the Eagles. He's still only 25 years old. Crazy. |

He would. |
Re: Jonathan Allen given permission to seek a trade
They found no trade partner, so he was just released.
|
Re: Jonathan Allen given permission to seek a trade
Would not be surprised it there is a decent amount of interest from multiple teams

Should be. No team was going to trade him, knowing we would cut him. Wish him well. |
Re: Jonathan Allen given permission to seek a trade
Hoping the release now means another signing is imminent. I might have expect some team to make a lowball draft pick offer so that they lock him in instead of now negotiating with all other interested teams. Little disappointed by that.

Re: Jonathan Allen given permission to seek a trade (update: he’s been released)
Wish we got some sort of pick for him. That's a shame.

Re: Jonathan Allen given permission to seek a trade (update: he’s been released)
Allen got a 3 year, 60 million deal with Vikings. Wish him well.

Well, if we held on to him another year and he hit free agency and someone paid him 20m a year, we would have gotten a compensatory pick. Losing him sucks, particularly with lesser talent but I guess his recent run defense into the pff 40s did him in here. 40s is easy to replicate at least. Really loved this guy. Thanks for holding our defense together until we came out on top Jon! Thank you! And good wishes but bad luck in Minnesota! |
Re: Jonathan Allen given permission to seek a trade (update: he’s been released)
Does anyone know if losing someone to free agency on one year deals are eligible for compensoratory picks? I am curious on Chinn, or even Brown. We really need some picks

If Chinn and Brown's contract expired, then they are considered Compensatory Free Agents (CFA) that count towards the team getting compensatory picks. I'm thinking Cornelius Lucas would also count, since his contract expired as well. Of course Jon Allen wouldn't count, since the team cut him. That would be offset by any CFAs we signed. I believe Kinlaw's contract with the Jets ended, so us signing him would offset any CFAs we lost. I believe Will Harris was also a CFA we signed from New Orleans. |
