Most Overrated NFL Player?
What's up guys, Just read over at CBSsportsline.com that Pete Prisco has listed the NFL'S most overrated and underrated players for each team in the league.
#1 overalll?....LaVar Arrington is listed as the most overated in the NFL I disagree but is he at least the most overated on our team? Maybe... If you are interested Prisco lists our most underrated player as Shawn Springs. |
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
I'm going to go with Vick too. He is the most overrated player in history. People CONSISTENTLY give me shit when I say it, but he's just not that good of a QB. He finds ways to win, and before someone reminds me AGAIN, he IS exciting, but a QB he is not.
|
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
They need to ask would they want him on there team..... I'm sure they would, if they have any clue about football.
|
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
It would be hard to argue that LaVar is not the most overrated Redskin. But in the league. I don't think so.
C. Griffin and S. springs are definately underrated. |
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
I wouldn't wish him on the Redskins. His supporting cast is dominant. One of the best WRs and TEs in the game, as well as one of the top defenses. Vick will continue to run around until he gets hurt or, just like Hideo Nomo, people will figure him out. There's no "strategy" to running around, but there IS a strategy to stop it, and many people figured that out last year.
|
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
Vick is clearly the most overrated player in the NFL in a long long time. Lavar is my favorite player but it's hard to argue that he doesn't at least belong on the list. No one is more overrated than Vick though.

He gets the hype but know one says he is the best they just say he is a good QB and he is very exciting to watch.

Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
Suprised (not really) that Brett Favre didn't make the list. The media loves to talk about his "love of the game" and that he plays with such joy. In reality (at least in more recent years) he's usually irresponsible with the ball and throws games away. No one with the authority of Holmgren and Co. to keep his ass in line.

Vick is a QB?

I was thinking the same thing earlier. Favre in his prime, was one of the greats. Just like you said, now he doesn't care and no one can tell a future "HoFer" to stop throwing the ball to just anyone in triple coverage. |

on the note of TE I'll agree with u cuz Crumpler is awesome, but Vick sure as heck doesn't have anything close to one of the best wrs in the league cuz price is the most overpaid 2nd Wr. I don't think he's anything close to the greatest QB, but he's only been in the league for 4 years, was only in college for 2-3 years, and until this past year, he never had a coach and system have him focus more on passing than making plays with his legs. One thing no one can deny, unless completely stubborn, is that if he can get his ability to throw more accurately close to the level of his arm strength in combination with his natural mobility, he would have be the best qb in the entire league. |

Well I think those that say he is overrated would argue that he's not an accurate passer and as long as his "greatness" is based on potential and not actual results than he is overrated because he's not living up to the hype of being the total package, at least not yet |
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
it's a toss up between vick and ray lewis, yes they are both good but the media would have you think that they are the best two football players to ever play in the nfl.
lavar, in my opinion should not be listed anywhere near the top of the list. he is a little overrated but if not for his injury last season , he would have been the defensive player of the year. |
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
remember that hit lavar put on vick in last years preseason game ? man, i get goosebumps just thinking about it. that was just a taste of what kind of season lavar was going to have.
|
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
I fully expect him to be one of the more dominant players next year. Like I said before, Williams NOR the team will allow Arrington to not buy into this system.

I don't think he's the definitive greatest player on defense that many seem to label him. I think Warren Sapp and Brian Urlacher would make my overrated list. |
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
For me it is a tie between Warren Sap (all mouth and no game) and Ray Lewis. He gets blown off the ball on a consistent basis, is not the best defensive player on his own team, and his being miked up all last year killed whatever respect I had for him.

Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
LA has been a bust. There is no way he is worth what we gave him last year. Even if he hadnt gotten hurt, I would still say this. Last year I was ticked that we signed him to such a stupidly huge contract. Hopefully he proves us all wrong this year, that is if he doenst hold out becasue he didnt read his contract, and still thinks he deserves that 6.5 Mil bonus.
|
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
Donovan McNAbb is my choice. HE gets to nervous in big games and barfs. He has failed to win the big ones, unless you count last years game against a overmatched Falcons team. He plays the system (West Coast) well but I think the coach is a bit of help there. And one last reason, HE IS A FREAKIN EAGLE!!
|
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
Good thing is, I don't think he's planning on holding out.
I'm just concerned cause we haven't heard any word on that situation lately. |
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
Whether or not someone is overrated or underrated is so subjective in my book.
All I'm gonna say is Arrington may be overrated a bit, but the most overrated in the entire league?? I really don't agree. |

he didn't get his contract renewed last year. i think he got it done after making his 2nd consecutive trip to the probowl. he deserved it, the skins wanted him to be a skin for his entire career or at least close to it. his contract was done shortly after ray lewis got a similiar deal from the ravens. |

Really, People give you shit? Really? most people i know would agree that he is up there as the most overrated players, the only thing that surprised me was that in the Probowl he owned. seriously it could be his WR corps, with a better group of WRs that team would go far. |
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
When you say better group, you mean he needs superheros to catch those wounded ducks that he throws.

Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
Thats Funny, That Vick Is Pick As Being The Most Overrated Player In The League, Uh No I Don't Think So, If After 3yrs They Haven't Figured Him Out, I Don't Think They Will Now....vick Is Far From Being The Most Overrated Player Maybe Maybe That Manning Kid In Ny, Or Kyle Boller, Oh Yeah Joey Harrington, Done Panned Out Well...oh My God, I Forgot, What About Good Ol Drew Bledsoe, If The Pocket Breaks, He Gone...poor Aron Brooks, Always We Be In The Shadow Of Poor Ole Cus....and Drew Brees....lucky He Had A. Gates Or He Would Have Been Shipped Out......so Lets See How M. Vick Career Ends Up....hell Lets See If Patrick Ramsey Will, Be Back Next Year...or Guess What...hello Campbell, Another Overrated Player That I've Heard That Wasn't Worth The Price...........
|
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
I don't think anyone you mentioned really is being considered overrated besides Brees. And yup, teams that have any talent on defense at all, have figured Vick out.
|
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
Oh, Yeah All The Qb I Mention, Hasn't Made It To The Conference Championship, Either....so I'll Take A Overrated Vick, Than A Underrated, Manning...., Your Right About One Thing When Your That Good The Good Defense, Better Find Away To Stop That Fast Elusive Brother....or He Just Might Overrately Beat You

Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
You know, no one is going to convince me that Vick isn't just average overall as a QB. When he learns how to complete passes and read defenses, let me know. That said, if I own a team I want him at QB. I'm talking from a money perspective. There is no guy that I can think of that would more successfully put butts in the seats than Vick. He's exciting to watch. Can't say I don't enjoy watching him run around confused and getting put on his ass by good defensive teams, though.
|
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
...In my opinion Vick is a pretty accurate quarterback. He needs to develop what I like to call "touch" though, because sometimes it seems like he's trying to kill his receivers with the heat he's putting on the ball, especially at short distances.
|
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
Vick has a career 53.6 completion percentage. Last year was his best season percentage wise 56.4.
Not what I would call accurate in the least bit. |

He DOES put butts in the seats, except the only problem with that is that the Skins have successfully put butts in the seats for how many years in a row in the biggest stadium in the NFL. It's sad that it took drafting Vick to get Atlanta fans to start jumping on the bandwagon. Not much loyalty there. I'm a HUGE Tech fan, but it should take more than a player to start filling seats. People have to stick with their team through the thick and thin. |
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
I have a real problem with slapping the "overrated" tag on someone who missed the last year with injury. Of course his stats are going to be off - he barely had any.
If push comes to shove, I'd give that tag to Arrington on our team, but that's a tough sell in this league. Why not Jeremiah "All-Pro" Trotter, who started half the season, can't play in coverage, and didn't lead the league in any categories for his position, but took home the honors. |
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
Yup. I definitely agree there too. Talk about being a system player. He ONLY can stop the run.
|
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
I agree on Vick being extremely overrated. Just have him as your fantasy QB for one year (or part of it until you trade him away) and you'll see just how wonderful Michael Vick is. I don't know if anyone has ever been as hyped as Michael Vick, both coming into the league and throughout his first few mediocre years in the league.
I also have to give honorable mention to Warren Sapp though. This guy is proof that if you say something loudly over and over again, some people will start to believe that you know what you are talking about. Since he's come into the NFL he's consistently tried convincing everyone that he's the best DT in the game........and it actually seems to have worked for a number of sportscasters. Me personally, I've always thought his mouth worked harder than any other part of his body. As for Lavar, I think its rediculous that anyone would put him at the top of the list as the most overrated player in the entire NFL after he was injured for essentially the entire year last year. But you know what, I hope Lavar sees this article and keeps it in the back of his mind throughout the entire season........only provides good fuel. Maybe we should get a second opinion and ask Troy Aikman if Lavar is overrated? God I just can't wait for the hitting to start.......I need some football. |
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
God I just can't wait for the hitting to start.......I need some football.
Thats something we can ALL agree on! |
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
I made the mistake of taking Vick really early in one of my fantasy leagues last year as my starter. He can light things up one week and be a total dud the next. I'll definitely stay away from him this year unless I can grab him as a backup.
|
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
I'd love to have Peyton this year. You pretty much can't miss with him.
|
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
Surprised nobody brought up Champ Bailey. For as hyped as he is, he sure got burned a few times last year.
|
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
So Vick is over rated: 3 years playing, one year out hurt, one lossing season as QB and two trips to the play offs. That sounds pretty good to me.
|
Re: Most Overrated NFL Player?
Too bad Deion Sanders isn't still in the league. He was by far the most overrated player ever. However, I am going to go out on a limb and say that Randy Moss is the most overrated player in the game today. Although he has immense physical talent, he is a destructive force to his team with his "me-first " attitude. He will never help a team win a championship. I also think that Daunte Culpepper helped to make Moss look better than he truly is. We'll know for sure after this coming season. Honorable mentions go to Jeremy Shockey, Keyshawn Johnson, Terrell Owens (hey, the proved they could win WITHOUT him) and any other player who has signed on Drew Rosenhaus as their agent within the past year to demand a new contract when their old one has not been fulfilled.
